President Donald Trump has abruptly fired Carla Hayden, the Librarian of Congress, who was the first woman and African American to hold the position.
The dismissal was delivered via email from the White House's Presidential Personnel Office. Hayden, known for her leadership in Baltimore's library system and her efforts to preserve diverse cultural records, had served since 2016. The move has triggered strong backlash from Democrats, who view the firing as part of a broader purge of government officials perceived as unsupportive of Trump's policies.
The decision has raised concerns about political interference in traditionally nonpartisan institutions.

Honestly, every president has the right to choose their own people, and just because Trump replaced her doesn’t mean it’s some big attack on libraries or diversity.

This is honestly infuriating but sadly not surprising coming from Trump. Carla Hayden was a trailblazer and did so much to make the Library of Congress more accessible and representative of America’s diversity. Firing her like this, by email of all things, just reeks of political retaliation and disrespect for public service. It’s another example of Trump undermining nonpartisan institutions just to push his own agenda. We need leaders who value inclusion and expertise, not ones who tear down historic progress for petty political points.

Kicking out Carla Hayden, the first Black woman to ever lead the Library of Congress, is yet another example of this administration trying to erase voices and history that don’t fit their agenda. This is a huge loss for anyone who actually cares about diversity, representation, and preserving all of America’s stories—not just the ones that make certain people comfortable.

About time someone started cleaning out these unelected bureaucrats—our national institutions should reflect American values, not push an agenda.
