How does the landscape or environment of your country influence the way you see yourself?

 @9JGZFQV from Washington  answered…1yr1Y

When I look at America I see the closest to the promised land that we'll ever see (besides heaven). Rich, dense, and diverse with resources, I want to protect it.

 @9JGZ9MZ from Ohio  answered…1yr1Y

 @9JGZCFH from Connecticut  answered…1yr1Y

I see myself as someone who is spoiled. I take the safety in our country for granted. in other countries there are people who have to worry about if their house will be bombed or taken over from terrorist groups.

How would you explain the concept of national pride to someone who has never felt it?

 @9KFTKDM from Missouri  answered…1yr1Y

 @9KFV88R from Missouri  answered…1yr1Y

Nationalism is where you can be a free and independant member of society whilst being active in your society

emphasizes loyalty, devotion, or allegiance to a nation or nation-state. It promotes the interests of a particular nation, especially with the aim of gaining and maintaining the nation's sovereignty over its homeland.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1yr1Y

Describe a local issue that you believe is a microcosm of your nation's larger challenges or values?

 @9KPV9P5 from California  answered…1yr1Y

I feel nationalism can make or break society and can be turned into animosity towards communities.

 @9KPT2JJGreen from Maryland  answered…1yr1Y

I believe nationalism creates more of a divide in people than unity and can be turned hateful.

 @9KQ5KFGRepublican from Indiana  answered…1yr1Y

Illegal immigration is a large concern both nationally and locally. There are laws in place regarding immigration and they should be followed as they have throughout the history of the United States. Only now are these laws not being enforced, which creates challenges in values at both the national and local levels.

 @9KPTNTMDemocrat  from Oklahoma  answered…1yr1Y

I see people dislike goverment and demand more defunding of goverment programs, however qualified individuals who would help them and their needs are turned away due to low pay.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

What's one change you hope to see in your nation in the next decade?

 @9J2MH3D from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

That the entirety of the United States undergoes a severe downgrading of military and police expenditure and focuses on socioeconomic problems that plague hundreds of millions, the concept of American Nationalism (especially Christian Nationalism) will cease to exist. (And Patriotism is simply a cover word for Nationalism, something the United States' people no longer require to live their lives.)

 @9J2Y2FG from Colorado  agreed…1yr1Y

People throughout the country believe the police and military should be defunded, based on the very little bad they do, But if push ever came to shove and we ever went to war the military would be the first people they look for. Or if they are home and being robbed lets say, the police would be the first person they call.

Eliminate protest by paid athletes at professional sports events

 @TheRollslapperDemocrat  from Maryland  commented…1yr1Y

That would increase the size of the government, limit people's liberties, go against the constitution that the founding fathers wrote, and promote cancel culture.

 @9J2MC4K from New Jersey  answered…1yr1Y

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

What is a tradition from your nation that you hold dear, and how does it shape your identity?

 @9HTGLZFLibertarian  from New Jersey  commented…2yrs2Y

United States constitution is a fairly large and quality document that helps guide us and helps. Tell us the difference between right and wrong. It helps establish people's rights in this world. I believe if it's followed properly and 12. Probably the world would be a better place. We need to go back to civics 101.

 @9J2LFCY from Ohio  answered…1yr1Y

People are more than capable of accepting foreign states, and it shapes my identity because it says that I am a very easy-going guy.

 @9J2JV8LVeteran from North Carolina  answered…1yr1Y

I believe in american pride and that america should be self-centered meaning that tax dollars should go to benefitting america rather than foreign countries. I also think that Americas needs should be met first.

 @9J2MS2Q from Ohio  answered…1yr1Y

Traditionally the nation has religious roots. While not very religious, I see the value in a solid moral compass that we can get behind to unite us toward our goals. "In God We Trust"

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1yr1Y

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

How would you define patriotism, and do you see it as a positive or negative force in society?

 @9HF2BWBProgressive from Virginia  answered…2yrs2Y

Patriotism is the support of the ideals and identity of one's homeland, country of origin, or adopted home. It forms the basis of nationalism, which is the extreme form of patriotism, however it is a distinct philosophy separate from nationalism. Patriotism is not mutually exclusive with international politics and reinforces group identity. However, the latter can lead to xenophobic exclusionary ideals. Patriotism becomes nationalism when one views their homeland as unique and deserving of recognition for its uniqueness, which leads to xenophobic and domineering foreign policy to a greater extent than does patriotism. Overall, patriotism can be both a negative and a positive

 @9HDZT3P from Arkansas  answered…2yrs2Y

Love of country, pride in country, devotion to country. Patriotism is a positive force in society.

 @9HDZR53Democratfrom Maine  answered…2yrs2Y

Patriotism, is the watered down version of Nationalism. Patriotism is loving your country and thinking the rest are alright, as Nationalism is loving your country and hating the rest. And in my opinion, I think Patriotism is a negative force on society as it may lead to conflicts among different people of different Nationalities.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

Do you think younger generations view nationalism differently than older generations; why might that be?

 @9J2MBCV from Georgia  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, younger generations think of nationalism as being overly patriotic but older generations are more serious about showing loyalty to their country.

 @9J2M9W7 from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

Yes because the younger generations see Nationalism through the eyes of their parents and not real world examples.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

Do you think there's a line between patriotism and nationalism; where do you draw it?

 @9HGVZPT from Wisconsin  answered…2yrs2Y

When you're pride for your homeland starts to become hatred towards other countries that are not your own, you end up on a very slippery path.

How does the concept of a national 'melting pot' versus a 'salad bowl' resonate with you?

 @9J2LQC9Independent from Georgia  answered…1yr1Y

Salad bowl is a better analogy. We don't have to become more homogeneous as a society.

 @9J2M2J3Republican from North Carolina  answered…1yr1Y

I am neutral about the melting pot. Though I believe that there are advantages to the wide variety of cultures, I am aware that it could also lead to many social and political disagreements

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

What do you envision for the future of your nation, and how do you see yourself in it?

 @9J2MKTH from California  answered…1yr1Y

We should actively forge a common national identity built on common values to bind us together as a nation of diverse individuals. If we are to lead internationally, we must first ensure the well-being of our nation and our citizens.

 @9J2MH5P from California  answered…1yr1Y

I see our nation going into a time of great political ignorance. Preferring to not offend certain groups of people rather than exposing them to reality. I don’t really know if my vision will change but I feel that our country is too accommodating to the wrong things.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

What local aspect of your nation do you think deserves global recognition, and why?

 @9HTGLZFLibertarian  from New Jersey  commented…2yrs2Y

Our system Justice an outer system of divided responsibilities in government. Always making sure there are checks and balances.

 @9J2MC6JWomen’s Equality from Washington  answered…1yr1Y

I think our global recognition could do better as a country of the US where we live.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

How do you balance being open to global ideas while maintaining national traditions and values?

 @9HK5637answered…2yrs2Y

In order to be open to global ideas while maintaining national traditions and values I like to keep in mind the actual needs of real common people and their needs rather than people who are financially well off.

 @9JBPMW5 from Tennessee  answered…1yr1Y

 @9JBPMQX from Oklahoma  answered…1yr1Y

I would likely be more open to the idea of federalism and government intervention.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1yr1Y

How does the idea of 'unity in diversity' within your nation resonate with your personal experiences?

 @9KN36K3  from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

Don't believe in Nationalism. If you're loyal to a fascist government, but someone in charge happens to be Korean I'm not gonna applaud.

 @9KN2WLY from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

Diversity is good, that's how our country began. We are, and always were, a melting pot.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1yr1Y

What's a local custom or tradition that you think others should know about?

 @9JGYBMD  from Alabama  answered…1yr1Y

I think Nationalism should be adopted in every country. If you have no pride for your country can you expect others to respect your country. America is known for guns and war we have made our trade mark and Americans support it.

 @9JGX9KV from New York  answered…1yr1Y

One notable local custom in Upstate New York is the tradition of maple syrup production, particularly during the early spring months. Upstate New York, especially regions like the Adirondacks and the Catskills, gives an ideal climate and landscape for maple syrup production.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1yr1Y

How has your sense of national identity influenced your choice of friends, hobbies, or career path?

 @9KFVHB9 from South Carolina  answered…1yr1Y

I believe that my friends are entitled to their own opinions and I do not believe in choosing my friends based on their beliefs. I pick my friends based on their character and how they act.

 @9KFV28J from West Virginia  answered…1yr1Y

I have found friends who share the same ideals and morals as me. Many of them feel betrayed by the nation they are supposed to be able to trust. That is how I feel. I feel no sense of national identity, as I have nothing to connect to. As a person of color, I have never felt welcomed or like I really belonged here.

 @9HK39KWRepublican from Iowa  answered…2yrs2Y

The idea that this country was founded on Christian values is very important, and the idea that we should have lots of freedom is a great idea that we should be proud of. But on the other hand we should still be able to change, and grow as a nation.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1yr1Y

Does belonging to a nation shape who you are more than your individual choices do?

 @9JQ945P from Idaho  answered…1yr1Y

I think each human is a individual part on the world, maybe your country’s culture can make some influences on you but not really strong.

 @9JQ8WWR from Arizona  answered…1yr1Y

No, individual choices and actions define and make up who you are as a person.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

Is there a difference between being proud of your country and being nationalistic, and if so, what is it?

 @9HDGSXYDemocrat from California  answered…2yrs2Y

There is absolutely a difference between Nationalism and Patriotism. Being a patriot means believing in your country and having the ability to criticize it. Nationalism is ignoring your country's mistakes and believing that it is superior to other nations.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

Can you love your country and still criticize its government or policies?

 @9H9M7GDDemocratcommented…2yrs2Y
