The U.S. Department of Education has launched an investigation into 60 colleges nationwide, including four in Washington state, over allegations of antisemitic discrimination.
Schools such as the University of Washington, Pacific Lutheran University, Eastern Washington University, and Whitman College are among those being scrutinized for potential violations of Title VI, which prohibits discrimination based on race, color, or national origin. The probe follows growing concerns about the treatment of Jewish students on campuses. Universities have been warned to take action to ensure student safety and compliance with federal law.
The investigation could lead to enforcement actions if violations are found.

This is just another attempt to silence criticism of Israel by conflating anti-Zionism with antisemitism. Students protesting genocide in Gaza are being labeled as discriminatory just for standing up for Palestinian rights. The fact that the federal government is getting involved shows how much influence pro-Israel groups have in shaping the narrative. Universities should be protecting free speech, not cracking down on activism that challenges U.S. support for Israeli apartheid. This investigation is nothing more than political pressure to shut down legitimate dissent.

Anti-Zionism is not Antisemitism. Couldn't agree more. I'm glad students are using their opportunities to stand up for Gaza.
Fighting antisemitism on campus is important, but we also need to make sure this isn’t being used to silence legitimate criticism of Israel’s policies.
It’s about time the federal government stepped in to address the rampant antisemitism on college campuses. Jewish students should never have to feel unsafe or silenced just for supporting Israel or expressing their identity. Too many universities have tolerated blatant hate under the guise of “free speech,” and it’s completely unacceptable. Hopefully, this investigation leads to real consequences for schools that allow discrimination to go unchecked.

If antisemitism was an issue, sure, couldn't agree more, but don't pretend this is what it isn't. These protests are anti-genocide, they are pro Palestinian, they are not antisemitic in nature, and yes they are exactly 1st ammendment based. Right to assemble, right to protest. Private properties can allow these all they want.
People have a problem with the Isreal government, not the Jewish people.
Free speech and equal treatment under the law are both core principles, so this is a tricky situation. On one hand, universities should absolutely be held accountable if they're allowing real discrimination against Jewish students. On the other hand, government investigations into campus speech and culture can easily go too far and chill free expression. The best approach would be for schools to enforce clear policies against harassment while still protecting open debate. The government should step in only if there's clear evidence that schools are failing to uphold basic rights.
The federal government sticking its nose into college affairs is just another example of bureaucratic overreach—universities should handle their own issues without DC interference. If discrimination is happening, the free market will hold these schools accountable as students and donors take their business elsewhere.
Colleges should be places of open debate and safety for all students—if antisemitism is happening, it absolutely needs to be addressed, but I hope this investigation is fair and not just political posturing.

Antisemitism has no place anywhere, especially in our schools, and it’s good to see the federal government taking these allegations seriously. That said, we also need to make sure that legitimate criticism of Israel’s policies isn’t being unfairly labeled as antisemitism to silence important discussions. Universities should be fostering environments where all students feel safe while also protecting free speech and academic freedom.
It's about time the government stepped in to address the rising antisemitism on college campuses. Jewish students should not have to feel unsafe or silenced just for supporting Israel or expressing their identity. Criticizing Israeli policies is fair game, but too often it crosses the line into outright hostility toward Jews. Universities need to do better at distinguishing between legitimate political debate and discrimination. Hopefully, this investigation pushes schools to take real action instead of just issuing empty statements.
