Rather create a new position in every school district and dump more money into hiring a full time police officer, one per school.

 @9YD2KXG from Iowa  answered…6mos6MO

I think that trained police should have a gun, but no one is allowed to use it. The police should have mental and physical checks once every two weeks.

 @9YCHW5ZPeace and Freedom from Iowa  answered…6mos6MO

No not carry!!! Mabye a small pistole should be in a safe that only the princable knows for protection and then, the teachers will be notified the code and the code should be changed after use.

 @9Y97K4Q  from Iowa  answered…6mos6MO

They should be professionally trained on gun protocols if they are a teacher, and mental health check-ups.

 @9Y7NZL3 from Iowa  answered…6mos6MO

No maybe the students would feel maybe a little uncomfortable, but also yes because if there might be a school shooting their the gun will be helpful and make the students feel safe in that way too.

 @9Y6SKGJ from Iowa  answered…6mos6MO

Teachers should have a safe in their room for when an intruder comes the staff in a main office can give a code to open a safe

 @9Y6RPMZIndependent from Iowa  answered…6mos6MO

There needs to be one or more officers at the school from a local police department and only they should be armed.

 @9XKLR8PPeace and Freedom from Iowa  answered…6mos6MO

If they were a school guard yes, but if they were a normal teacher possibly put a safer weapon in a box in their classroom

 @9XH9T42 from Iowa  answered…7mos7MO

Yes but it should be locked away somewhere where students cannot get to it and it is only to be used in an emergency.

 @9WZL5L2 from Iowa  answered…7mos7MO

That will increase the chances of an accidental death. Instead we should hire a trained police officer to handle that stuff.

 @9WZKPHY from Iowa  answered…7mos7MO

i think teachers of the correct training should be able to carry a firearm for their and our protection

 @9SRPS64 from Iowa  answered…9mos9MO

Yes, but only if the teacher that is carrying a gun has went through all the classes and training and know how to handle the gun

 @9S4NBDD from Iowa  answered…9mos9MO

Yes, but the teacher(s) should be volunteers and either show proof of previous and up to date/nonexpired safety training or take a safety course before being allowed to bring onto campus

 @9LMRRRG from Iowa  answered…1yr1Y

Yes but only if the teacher or security personnel are trained. Should also be required to take a yearly or bi yearly training course provided by the local police department or state police department.

 @9LLW5YW from Iowa  answered…1yr1Y

Teachers should have access to a firearm for classroom defense purposes so long as it is stored in a gun safe within the classroom and hidden from the students.

 @9L7HLMG  from Iowa  answered…1yr1Y

yea but it has to be put somewhere where nobody else can get it and also it has to be the right person

 @9L57KVR from Iowa  answered…1yr1Y

No, this would increase the risk of accidental shootings No, hire professionally trained security guards instead

 @9L4LGXP from Iowa  answered…1yr1Y

Again, if they are fully trained and are in a sound state of mind to handle a firearm around children, sure. But this is something that should be decided by consensus.

 @9KYSXZL from Iowa  answered…1yr1Y

i would say yes only if the teacher is ok in gun safety and thy know how to use the weapon correctly

 @9J87PRX from Iowa  answered…1yr1Y

No, teachers should teach. Other gun restrictive measures should be passed so teachers don't have to carry.

 @9J4J6X8Republican from Iowa  answered…1yr1Y

I think a teacher should have the option to carry a gun, but must do yearly certification and gun must be secure in a fingerprint or other secure place

 @9J4GT7Z from Iowa  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, but only if they have undergone EXTENSIVE training and evaluation. this is a VERY serious matter as i had a teacher in middle school who when he lost his temper would pick students up by the desk and throw them. this could easily turn into an issue.

 @9F73CRY from Iowa  answered…2yrs2Y

 @8GBQ5VJ from Iowa  answered…5yrs5Y

A security guard working at the school should be able to but not a teacher.

 @8G9CXX5Democrat from Iowa  answered…5yrs5Y

there should be a security guard that patrols the school (maybe with a firearm) but other than that no

 @8G7LLGB from Iowa  answered…5yrs5Y

 @9GHKYDP from Iowa  answered…2yrs2Y

i think yes if they are willing to go through a mental health check and police acadamy and become a policeman technically

 @96FKHTS from Iowa  answered…3yrs3Y

Do I look like I want my own teachers to school shoot their own school to get high pay?

 @95RBRHV from Iowa  answered…3yrs3Y

 @92RKF2X from Iowa  answered…3yrs3Y

 @92KFNJZ from Iowa  answered…3yrs3Y

I believe this should be an option but the gun can not be left unattended and put in a safe in a cabinet

 @8ZZ6ZRC from Iowa  answered…3yrs3Y

they should have training on how to handle one and it should be made that they can't just pull it out note they should never speak about it or where it is

 @8ZSVNKM from Iowa  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8ZM4DNH from Iowa  answered…3yrs3Y

Put an officer on campus for the purpose of protecting the students and teachers.

 @8ZF5MDCDemocrat from Iowa  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8YF8C27 from Iowa  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8Y8VT6J from Iowa  answered…3yrs3Y

as long as the students do not know about it I think that it would be ok only for protection purpes only

 @8Y8PDH7 from Iowa  answered…3yrs3Y

have a deep background check and take gun safety classes for at a minimum of 2 months.

 @8XZ76QRIndependence from Iowa  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8XX5JBH from Iowa  answered…3yrs3Y

Only when psychological testing and training as well as background checks are put in place.

 @8XWHYS6 from Iowa  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but only teachers with proper training and the guns need to be in a place where only a teacher could access.

 @8XTZB28 from Iowa  answered…3yrs3Y

no, students would be tempted to steal the guns and start shootings in public schools

 @8WZZ3TCWomen’s Equality from Iowa  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, only if they can prove that they have a gun permit and can prove that they can be responsible only for emergency purposes only.

 @8WTKBQQ from Iowa  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but it must be concealed and they must take proper safety precautions

 @8WJ6HNH from Iowa  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8WJ2LQYRepublican from Iowa  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but only those who have been through gun training before and know how to keep the gun on safety while it's in the classroom and can quickly load but only when there posses a threat to the classroom, but it can't be what they think is a threat, but also hire security with strict background checks and training in case of an accidental shooting and assign them to those classrooms.

 @8WB4QK4Democrat from Iowa  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, however, the teachers need to go through gun safety training and only use it in emergencies.

 @8SYN85K from Iowa  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8SYC9NX from Iowa  answered…4yrs4Y

teachers should be allowed to have a hidden gun safe with a firearm inside

 @8SFCRXRLibertarian from Iowa  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but only if they went through extensive background check, psychological testing, and extensive training.

 @8S7PQD6 from Iowa  answered…4yrs4Y

yes because more safety for emergencies but also no because it puts a lot more stress on the teachers and can cause more accidental shootings

 @8S49WGD from Iowa  answered…4yrs4Y

I think that teachers should carry guns but not make it public to the students. I like the idea of having professionals trained in security around the school.

 @8S369W9Reform from Iowa  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but they should be registered with the school as carrying on premises.

 @8RYSV6R from Iowa  answered…4yrs4Y

With background checks on the teachers, and possibly cameras being included, and only one teacher in a wing will have a gun.

 @8RSMDJ3 from Iowa  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8RSJWZ6 from Iowa  answered…4yrs4Y

I feel if a teacher shall have a gun they shall be properly trained and have a clean background report.

 @8R66NXLProgressive from Iowa  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but only teachers who can pass an exam to carry on school property.

 @8QWFGFH from Iowa  answered…4yrs4Y

I believe there should be at least one trained and armed individual at schools for defensive purposes. But the weapon should never be drawn except for emergency purposes.

 @8QQYXDQDemocrat from Iowa  answered…4yrs4Y

I say yes because if anything bad were to happen and the police were taking forever then we would be ready

 @8QQV46P from Iowa  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8QQV38J from Iowa  answered…4yrs4Y

Maybe with a teacher they really trust or have an officer or something at school

 @8Q8GCB7 from Iowa  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8PPP6H7Republican from Iowa  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8NVYQ4K from Iowa  answered…5yrs5Y

Teachers should not be allowed to carry guns in a school instead, police officers should be assigned as SROs in order to protect students.

 @8MXNNFF from Iowa  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, said teacher should be professionally trained on firearm safety and the name of the teacher equipped should not be public knowledge.

 @8MRFYGJ from Iowa  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, all adults have the privilege to carry guns for self defense and for the defense of others

 @8MMQT7L from Iowa  answered…5yrs5Y

I dont think they should carry a gun but have something in the class to help protect them but put it somewhere a student cant get to it.

 @8ML8LQS from Iowa  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8MGJBDX from Iowa  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8MG9M97 from Iowa  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes they Should have a gun but it has to be kept away unless the teacher hears shots from intruder

 @8LGMHNY from Iowa  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8LFHG3F from Iowa  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8L4L9GN from Iowa  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8KWCZFZ from Iowa  answered…5yrs5Y

I believe that certain teachers should be able to but you have to go through a series of questions

 @8KT5JYFRepublican from Iowa  answered…5yrs5Y

No, this would increase the risk of accidental shootings and yes because for protection but at least one security guard should be at more than one schools

 @8KS8BBR from Iowa  answered…5yrs5Y

No, but they should be trained on proper handling and guns should be kept locked up, in the event they are required. Sometimes Emergency Services just can't reach them in time and they should have the choice and ability to defend our future generations.

 @8KJSFBZ from Iowa  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8KHWK6T from Iowa  answered…5yrs5Y

If teachers are trained and the gun is secured they should have the option.

 @8KDGTZQ from Iowa  answered…5yrs5Y

it depends on where the school is like if its in a bad area with violence maybe
