Only if the teacher has gone through training to ensure they know and fully understand gun safety, and passes a mental health test to ensure no outbursts.

 @B4BQ6VQ from Montana  answered…1mo1MO

Yes, only if the teacher has gone through training on how to use it, in what situation, and have a safe locked box with a code only they know.

 @9ZFVSTWNo Labels from Montana  answered…6mos6MO

the gun should be put out of reach for students (like in a vault) and only be accessed in an emergency (the shots should be knock out shots).

 @9YDD9ZX from Montana  answered…6mos6MO

Yes, as long as the teacher knows what they are doing and the safty lock is on at all times and out of reach from children

 @9XKZGXY from Montana  answered…6mos6MO

Teachers should only be allowed with heavy background checks and mental health screening monthly to prevent accidental shootings. All guns provided should only be allowed to be accessed via an electronic lockdown system, where a case containing the weapon will open should a lockdown be happening.

 @9XKTS33 from Montana  answered…6mos6MO

I think if it comes to the point the teacher should not open carry and conceal carry or have the gun hidden well in the classroom where children have no access to it.

 @9XKTRFRRepublican from Montana  answered…6mos6MO

I think it should only be a select few teachers that have gone through training and be able to prove that you are capable and responsible enough to. Almost to the point of being a certified officer.

 @9W2NBQC from Montana  answered…7mos7MO

Hire Veterans to act as security guards for schools. I'm sure a lot of them would be very happy to protect our youth. Of course, make sure they're mentally sound enough to do so, but I see no problem otherwise with them protecting our children.

 @9VLN3XP from Montana  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, but they have to have it in a safe and only allowed to use it if an intruder is in the building or something bad happening in the area

 @9VLKLZR from Montana  answered…7mos7MO

Yes if you were in a risky location, and need to keep the kids safe. But if not you can just have your security guard do that job.

 @9V54WNN from Montana  answered…8mos8MO

They should have one teacher with a gun but only if it's locked up in a desk where no kids will get to it

 @9TR9RSK from Montana  answered…8mos8MO

Schools should hire professionally trained guards if a teacher brought a gun to school then a kid might find it and use it for a shooting then people might fire those teachers because they thought it was the teacher not a kid/student. So schools should hire professionally trained guards teachers should not bring guns to school.

 @9TPHBXJ  from Montana  answered…8mos8MO

its a mix between yes and no because one you never know what could happen and two you know its a safety hazard and not only that i mean yes they are trying to protect us but hows that gonna work?

 @9TLKQMJ from Montana  answered…8mos8MO

No hire retired veterans who meet the psychological and physical criteria for being on duty to protect our children and they would do so with pleasure and keep veterans in work instead of struggling to keep work that does not interest them. This would solve so many problems and the government could subsidize the money paid for them as a separate stipend for schools.

 @9TC2L5Q from Montana  answered…8mos8MO

With proper and strict psychological testing and strict training, I believe teachers some teachers should be allowed to have an accessible, only to them, sidearm in the classroom.

 @9T2SLVB from Montana  answered…8mos8MO

yes but there should be a background check and they should know how to carry and conceal a gun and proper gun

 @9SP73VT from Montana  answered…9mos9MO

Yes but they should have to go through courses and be certified to ensure they know how to properly handle the gun.

 @9SKT7W5 from Montana  answered…9mos9MO

only after a background check and a license to carry it in a school place and need to have a clean record.

 @9MVMSYNWomen’s Equality from Montana  answered…12mos12MO

No this could increase the risk but yes if maybe if it was put ina space and they knew how to use it and didnt know the code to open the safe until a real emergency

 @9MRMD42 from Montana  answered…12mos12MO

All teachers should be required to take a gun safety class cost free and have a firearm locked in a combination safe inside there desk.

 @9LJ3MHZ from Montana  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, only if the teacher has gone through training and background checks, otherwise just hire security guards.

 @9LHZ3XG from Montana  answered…1yr1Y

I think when it comes to teachers and weapons, maybe a small... and I do mean small, kind of gun should be at least locked away, and they should have a limited amount of ammo.

 @9LCYSLD from Montana  answered…1yr1Y

Fix the school system and reduce gun access so that it isn't necessary for teachers and students for fear for for their safety

 @9KWXWXT from Montana  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, There should be atleast three teachers with a fire arm in a locked safe and every one of them should have a knife.

 @9KWV5V8 from Montana  answered…1yr1Y

If it is a school that is in a dangerous area then yes but if it is a place that doesn't usually have bad things maybe have just like a semi-dangerous one to scare people.

 @9KTHCZFRepublican from Montana  answered…1yr1Y

Law enforcement throughout the school such as an School Resource Officer can carry a gun, but otherwise should be prohibited to ensure no accidental shootings or a weapon ending up in the wrong hands for the wrong uses.

 @9KTHBDJ from Montana  answered…1yr1Y

Yes and no, because the gun could end up in the wrong hands and cause more problems. If the person that is carrying is properly certified, goes through yearly trainings to ensure proper gun safety, and proper defense techniques.

 @9KSGGHV from Montana  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, in high crime rate areas, but they should be put in a safe and they would only be able to take out during drills

 @9JJ3Q6D from Montana  answered…1yr1Y

No, I think there should always be a resource officer on the campus who is armed in case of an emergency.

 @9JDLPQR from Montana  answered…1yr1Y

In areas that are more prone to school shooting or gun violence it would be beneficial for the minimal standard to uphold at least one personal with responsibility and the correct requirements to own a gun but in areas with lower rates of gun voilence i believe that it should be decided by the school board and only opperated with those who fit the requirements. It should be decided by the state.

 @9HZRW9DConstitution from Montana  answered…1yr1Y

Teachers should have the choice whether or not they want to conceal carry a pistol. With proper training and background checks.

 @9HPLQTJ from Montana  answered…1yr1Y

No that might cause more accidental shootings and teacher's job is to teach not protect hire guards instead.

 @9HP6TJ8 from Montana  answered…1yr1Y

It might increase the risk of accidental shootings but teachers should not have to learn how to use a gun or be scared for their live of the lives of the children they are teaching.

 @9HP6RMX from Montana  answered…1yr1Y

If they have a permit and the school has performed a strict and thorough background check. And if they have never gone to jail.

 @9H2FVGT  from Montana  answered…1yr1Y

im torn between having a teacher or security guard to be armed and hire professionally trained security guards instead.

 @9H5N43TRepublican  from Montana  answered…1yr1Y

I beleive that if the teacher takes a class for a period of time, and is able to handle a gun, then yes I beleive that they should be able to carry a pistol to there work, its like wearing a knife to school, even though it says your aren't allowed, I would garrentee that about 85% of the people I ask if they wear some kinf of knife, they wuld say yes, its beacause they feel confortable with that kind of thing in their presense knowing it will help them out if they get into a scuffle.

 @9FW8MG9 from Montana  answered…2yrs2Y

I think that the government should decide this but in worst case scenario this idea would be good if the entire school staff get trained to hold a firearm

 @9FMPCFX from Montana  answered…2yrs2Y

Only after lots of psychological testing, background checks, and safety training

 @9F73DKJ from Montana  answered…2yrs2Y

No, only school resource officers working through the local police force and vetted as safe individuals should carry guns at school

 @9DR9V2Z from Montana  answered…2yrs2Y

If they are locked away in a safe or something, and only used for protection purposes.

 @9DQ54GW from Montana  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9D6T5F5 from Montana  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9BM7RP9 from Montana  answered…2yrs2Y

No, not with the current quality of some teachers in some districts. Some teachers do not teach, and do not care for their students. They are only there to get paid. Do you really think they're going to be competent with a gun? And what if a student got ahold of it somehow?

 @96N2NM2 from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

 @96N2G8J from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

No, But they should hire like a veteran that is trained to stand at the door and run toward it if they here a gunshot, Plus this would help the veteran community.

 @96MYPV7Republican from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

 @96MHNQP from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

No, since it could allow easier or accidential access of these guns to the minors that they teach

 @96C3TR8Republican from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

Teachers must take a mental wellness check and always have the clip out of the gun and in a different pocket incase a student decided to disarm them.

 @96C2YG3Republican from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

Should have some way to protect themselves, but not with the use of a gun.

 @95YBRGN from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

they should be able to care if they have had the training and know how to handle a gun

 @95SXTX2 from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

No, this would create an arms race between school shooters and schools themselves without addressing the cause.

 @95M4YBR from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

yes but it should be voluntary and should have a license with requirements

 @95JFDRX from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

Teachers should be allowed to carry a gun at school if they have the proper training and classes on how to handle a gun, that being said it should be there choice and the school should be hiring more security overall.

 @94XKKM6 from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

 @94SWXHB from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

 @946GX57 from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, there should be multiple people in the school who are thoroughly trained.

 @944YFK2 from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

Having teachers with guns in school could cause additional issues, as highering new teachers would become a longer process, and this solution meant to be more protective, may be more of a liability.

 @93Y9GST from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, Teachers that want to should be able to carry a firearm after completing training with a sheriff's office (or another applicable training source)

 @93T8W2W from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

No, schools are a learning environment and should be made safe enough for teachers to not have to double as security guards.

 @93N3XDLIndependent from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

Only if the teacher feels comfortable is specially trained and it can be hidden well

 @92X57CD from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

If they are trained in the safe use of firearms,and feel safe doing so.

 @92WY6XN from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

A back ground check should be done and the teacher should know gun safety.

 @92PRJXP from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

If a teacher is properly trained, mentally checks out, and is in a position where students cannot access or see it, a teacher should have one in case of an active shooter situation

 @92MVQ7XPeace and Freedom from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

 @92MMVQH from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

 @92JZDJWDemocrat from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

teachers should be armed if they would like to, but should be required to take safety courses and lock up weapons that only they have access too

 @925DD5M from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

yes, but a thorough background check should be made and the students must be aware the teacher is in possession of a firearm

 @8ZKDMZ3 from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

Teachers or security guards should be given the option to carry a small hand gun at school, after a strict background check, psychological testing, and training

 @8Z4VXPJ from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

I feel like they should be able to but not without training or evfalutions.

 @8Z3ZRSH from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8YLSMFWAmerican from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8YKBQVG from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

They need strict training and a safe that no student can access or now of its location of who owns it. They need psychological evaluations too

 @8YFDSY9 from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8XXQQCQ from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

No, We should hire homeless veterans to defend schools and offer benefits to veterans for doing so

 @8XXQBJZ from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8XXNFDR from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, if they know what there doing with the gun and have somewhere safe and hidden to put it.

 @8XWJQ5M from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but only if the teacher is willing to go threw a police sort of training. Not every teacher should get a gun.

 @8XSHKBN from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8XQSVFQ from Montana  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but they should pass all background checks and meet all requirements, promising not to use it unless in danger

 @8WVVNH2 from Montana  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8WVN923 from Montana  answered…4yrs4Y

I believe there should be someone qualified hired for this type of situation.

 @8WPVVZN from Montana  answered…4yrs4Y

I feel like a security guard should have a gun, but only a few upstanding teachers should have them

 @8WLXSHPLibertarian from Montana  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but only if they are trained and have a strict mental evaluation. A trained security guard with a strict mental evaluation would be just as good

 @8W7784K from Montana  answered…4yrs4Y

yes but only if the is a gun safe in the class room to prevent students from using the gun and the teachers should have to take a phyc test to make sure they are mentally able.

 @8W6XR9Z from Montana  answered…4yrs4Y

teachers should be allowed to carry as long as they are trained and maintain training

 @8W2ZVRR from Montana  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but teachers should participate in multiple tests, training, and etc to be able to do this.

 @8VCRWL7 from Montana  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8V927FJ from Montana  answered…4yrs4Y

There should be an available course for teachers to learn to defend themselves and their students, at the teacher's own will. The school should also be allowed to hire professionally trained armed security so long as it passes through the city council and school board.
