Yes, schools should require at least one staff member to be armed provided there is no room for doubt they are on the side of the children and teachers even more so than their own. They should be paid more for their commitment to their children and teachers.

 @B3D3VXC  from Indiana  answered…2mos2MO

yes, but they need a lock box and a code to pop up on the computer to tell them the code then they can get the gun

 @B358HQL from Indiana  answered…3mos3MO

No, but they should be trained in defense and ways to help prevent an attacker from hurting the kids.

 @9YLSW25 from Indiana  answered…6mos6MO

Some teachers could not be trusted with a lethal weapon. Hire someone else instead, like a security guard.

 @9Y2QGYL from Indiana  answered…6mos6MO

yes, but it can cause issues amongst people. the teachers would need extensive background checks before being allowed into the school with a gun

 @9WJLYHHRepublican from Indiana  answered…7mos7MO

No, not unless they are the type of teacher that can actually use it to protect kids/students or teach kids/students how to defend themselves with it in case of emergencies at/during school or somewhere else.

 @9WGH9Y8 from Indiana  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, but require gun to be locked up and for a security guard to have one. With proper training and severe consequences for potential accidents.

 @9RLJX4HLibertarian from Indiana  answered…10mos10MO

Depends on their background - I would prefer outsourcing this to another party (maybe security guards)

 @9R29YH4 from Indiana  answered…10mos10MO

yes, but it should only be after strict training and it should not be announced which teachers will be carrying

 @9LJ5XYV from Indiana  answered…1yr1Y

Yes because let's say someone trying to get in school. The states says we can protect ourselves against the person say yes.

 @9LHVV9ZRepublican from Indiana  answered…1yr1Y

Yes but, the teachers should have strict background checks, phycological background checks, and the guns they carry can only be semi-automatic weapon.

 @9JYXYRT from Indiana  answered…1yr1Y

Have built in lockers in their rooms... incase of an emergency the lockers shall open and be used only to protect the students and their selves.

 @9JQFZ5V from Indiana  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, but it should be an option and the students cannot have the knowledge of it and it must be on their persons at all times.

 @9D7FJM4 from Indiana  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but require extensive background checks and an extensive process for a teacher to be able to do this

 @9D4CP5Z from Indiana  answered…2yrs2Y

They should not have teachers with guns but hire armed security who are qualified to do the job.

 @9BQVD9G from Indiana  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes but the gun should be only accessed through the teacher in a safe or on person

 @9BPLJ72Independent from Indiana  answered…2yrs2Y

I think schools should identify capable individuals who could fill this role. There are a lot of prior VETs and LEOs that transition into teaching. They are already trained and many of them would be better suited to deal with active shooter situations than most patrol officers. Also, they are already in the building which makes their response quicker, which is the whole goal of responding to an active situation.

 @9BNS88G from Indiana  answered…2yrs2Y

 @963NTX2 from Indiana  answered…3yrs3Y

A teacher shouln't feel the need to carry a gun; schools should be safe

 @963HXK8 from Indiana  answered…3yrs3Y

No, it would be better for security or police to be on school grounds: doing patrols, checking the security cameras, etc.

 @945Z2GYRepublican from Indiana  answered…3yrs3Y

No, hire the right people to protect the school because you can't trust a teacher or a student with a weapon.

 @8YVJ957 from Indiana  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8YBPX5L from Indiana  answered…3yrs3Y

No, cause then if a teacher was really messed up in the head they could kill a student and if a student saw the gun and the student was crazy they could get a hold of the gun and kill a bunch of people in the school

 @8YBLXQWRepublican from Indiana  answered…3yrs3Y

maybe not carry it with them but have it hidden somewhere that way children don't find it

 @8XRCPJR from Indiana  answered…3yrs3Y

Each district or state should be free to create their own legislation on this issue

 @8WDRGXN from Indiana  answered…4yrs4Y

There should be a select few who can and they need to go thro strict training.

 @8QD63LV from Indiana  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, after they are trained and use the guns for the protection of the students, not for violence.

 @8Q2X792Peace and Freedom from Indiana  answered…4yrs4Y

They shouldn’t need to. It might increase the risk of shootings. Students could steal the gun and shoot others, or maybe a teacher who isn’t as mentally stable as once thought could end up shooting someone. If I had to, I would go with the armed guard. That goaded needs to be extremely well trained and mature and should not use force unless ABSOLUTELY NEEDED.

 @8PT7Y57 from Indiana  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8PT5P4C from Indiana  answered…4yrs4Y

Teachers that are well educated with a firearm should be aloud to carry but not all teachers

 @8NRNHPB from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8NK5PF9Republican from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

Have the janitors do it. They know the school layout better than anyone.

 @8N9XQHN from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes but only people who have been trained. Also if kids that are going through some things and/or are trying to get a gun they need to be in a safe place where they can't get to them.

 @8N99SHM from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

yes, but there needs to be guidelines. for example, they should only use/touch it in emergencies cases. they shouldn't touch it with a reason.

 @8N3K9PK from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8MWDKZ9 from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

With the proper security and safety measures in place so students cannot easily access the firearm, teachers should be allowed to have a firearm in their room if they are a legal carrier.

 @8MVBSSB from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

They should be allowed to in a drawer locked up and only used when absolutely necessary

 @8MQB5SF from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8MNY6MYWomen’s Equality from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes and no because what if there is an accidental shooting or something. I think every school should have a security guard who carries one on them at all times.

 @8MNHKTX from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

NOT AT ALL. Not all teacher know how to use a gun and the government will speed up training causing them not to learn well enough. Not all teachers are going to want to have a gun. Students aren't going to feel safe either. It is also about taking into consideration how the students feel and how they parents of the students feel. The government instead should hire people who are 100% professionally trained security guards.

 @8ML5B2V from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes but only in protection of kids and them selves like probably in high schools they should be allowed to because kids understand.

 @8M38NF8 from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8LSQCLP from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

Only if they don't have it showing where people can see it then it is fine.

 @8LPW8C3 from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

I think yes and no .. Yes because sometimes when kids are outta of hand such as bringing other weapons to school I think a security guard should have the right to point the gun and say the things they would say as if somebody was getting arrested .. but I also think it sound be either a real life police officer or a fully trained guard.

 @8LGC9TD from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

Depends on the class if it is a military like class then yes of course though for a normal class probably not.

 @8L3JLSQ from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8JW8JJ6 from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8JKRG28 from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8HDF9CB from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

not teachers but guards who are trained should be allowed to be armed at all times.

 @8G6ZJCG from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes but based upon individual school systems and only after minimum safety and training standards are met and renewed yearly.

 @8FCNSBN from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

No, if proper requirements are met with gun regulations, teachers should have no need for weapons on school grounds

 @8DD49Q4 from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes but in secure location, such as a thumbprint authorized lockbox in desk

 @8DD43MK from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, so long as they are given gun discipline lessons and a secondary non lethal tool, such as a taser.

 @9BGQ6YX from Indiana  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9BF8YBT from Indiana  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9BDTFSD from Indiana  commented…2yrs2Y

No. I do not think arming teachers would be a good idea. I understand having police officers or trained professionals though.

 @9B35D76 from Indiana  answered…2yrs2Y

The teachers should be given the OPTION to carry firearms in schools, and if they do so they should be put through training with their chosen firearm

 @98R8HQ2 from Indiana  answered…2yrs2Y

 @98QB46QRepublican from Indiana  answered…2yrs2Y

No, This could very much increase accidental shootings and they could hire professional guards. any misled students could take the gun and shoot other people.

 @97DC4VR from Indiana  answered…3yrs3Y

If the teacher is trained properly and is comfortable with it then yes.

 @97CYJBQ from Indiana  answered…3yrs3Y

maybe like 3 or 4 trusted teachers that know and have known how to use a gun

 @8WV5F52 from Indiana  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8QDDBBY from Indiana  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, schools show make sure that the teachers are trained that want to be armed and that they have the proper background checks and examinations.

 @8NJJ2CC from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes they should as long as they know how to operate a gun and use it wisely.

 @8LMZSFT from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8GDFV4Z from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

 @9BF8ZT8 from Indiana  answered…2yrs2Y

No, I don't think teachers are trained for that, plus I worry the risk may outweigh the benefit, if anything I'd say hire more/better security.

 @8L89WPY from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

NO! Absolutely not. I know that teachers have to keep themselves and their students safe, but think about the school environment. It would be total chaos. Someone could just walk into the school building carrying a gun and slide for a teacher. NOT happening!

 @9WJ7CSWIndependent from Indiana  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, but only if they go through specific training and keep it locked and away from students during normal conditions.

 @8YTM8JDRepublican from Indiana  answered…3yrs3Y

yes only if the teacher is properly trained with the gun and it can be locked up when needed and safe

 @B5C9WHYIndependent from Indiana  answered…3 days3D

There would be no need for teachers to carry guns in psychological evaluations were done on a person before purchasing a gun.

 @9BFJZ35 from Indiana  commented…2yrs2Y

No

I don’t think that teachers should be able to carry guns at school because there could be accidents in which people are hurt. I wouldn’t trust a teacher to be responsible with having a gun at school.
