No, increasing the minimum wage would just be crazy. Its like saying if the minimum wage had a professional job like a teacher. Which that teacher went to school longer and got a degree just to make the same amount as a McDonalds worker.

  @VulcanMan6  from Kansas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Yes, and make it a living wage

Teachers AND McDonald's workers should be making more. Literally ALL workers should be making more than a living wage.

 @B24839SNo Labels from California  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, implement it in slowly, allow states the flexibility to adjust it above the federal wage, adjust the wage to inflation, maintain a subminimum wage for youth and tipped workers, provide tax credits and incentives to small businesses, and perform regular assessments.

 @9NBM7CLLibertarian from California  answered…1yr1Y

NO, minimum wage is and has always been zero. Money should not be the standard: production of goods and services should. Minimum wage keeps poors from entering the work force.

 @8ZYXDV5 from California  answered…3yrs3Y

 @9G9CHNGDemocrat from California  answered…2yrs2Y

They should set a minimum that allows people to live and then not change it until people can no longer live with that amount.

 @9F597PF from California  answered…2yrs2Y

yes Because most people who work have family's everyone has bills but not everyone has family's

 @9DCLYYC from California  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9D9KMVF from California  answered…2yrs2Y

No, minimum wage is largely irrelevant in the present day as very few companies are paying federal minimum wage

 @9D4Y7JBRepublican from California  answered…2yrs2Y

No. States should handle this as the standard of living is different by regions and raising the federal minimum wage potential could detrimentally impact regions where it is not as expensive to live.

  @TheRolfe from California  answered…2yrs2Y

Abolish the Federal Minimum Wage and let the individual states set their own rates like they do already.

  @VulcanMan6  from Kansas  commented…2yrs2Y

Yes, and make it a living wage

If states already set their own minimum wages, then why would we even need to get rid of the federal min wage, which is already unlivable nationwide as is..?

  @Typical-Transhumanist-American-p… from California  commented…3yrs3Y

Yes, and adjust it every year according to inflation

Yes, and adjust it every year according to inflation.

Yes, and make it a living wage that is adjusted every year according to inflation. Wages have not increased while productivity has but the government should not be incentivizing citizens to overwork themselves especially with such a shoddy healthcare system.

 @B5L3CVV from California  answered…2mos2MO

Yes but it has to come after they raise taxes on the rich so it will be effective (or else prices will increase and inflation will occur)

 @B5K75BZ from California  answered…2mos2MO

no, for 2 reasons above; it will raise prices more and more, as well as its not really meant to support a family

 @B5GGLXD from California  answered…2mos2MO

Minimum wage should be portional to the amount of work being done, for some jobs, such as lifeguards, should have a higher minimum wage to incentivize people to have those jobs and

 @B5GGGYW from California  answered…2mos2MO

There needs to be government oversight on wage standards to ensure people are getting a fair wage, but not necessarily by adding a minimum wage as this simply increases inflation.

 @B5FCG4P from California  answered…2mos2MO

Yes, and adjust it every year according to inflation. Also establish a maximum wage, preventing the highest paid individual in all companies earning no more than 100 times the lowest paid individual.

 @B5F946HLibertarian from California  answered…2mos2MO

just adjust it for the prices of things at the time, it should be a living wage, not a thriving wage.

 @B59XRJD from California  answered…2mos2MO

I believe that it should absolutely be adjusted to a living wage and be adjusted with inflation and other economical factors

 @B54KVR4 from California  answered…2mos2MO

no , minimum wage is considerd minimum for a reason you do minimum work of study you get the pay you ask for people who are actually going to school for reason and make much money be cause they double the effort

 @B52GDRS from California  answered…2mos2MO

Restricting the government's ability to print money and create inflation, as well as limiting large companies from earning more than they deserve, would address two significant issues. After achieving these, we should eliminate the minimum wage. It's important to ensure that the wealth gap doesn't become too wide. A large wealth gap doesn't stem from whether people are diligent or not, but rather from the imbalanced distribution of wealth in society as a whole.

 @B4X3DKXRepublican from California  answered…2mos2MO

Raising minimum wages only benefits all the entities collecting taxes. I does nothing for the tax payer other then screwing us.

 @B4KLCSB from California  answered…3mos3MO

allow states to determine their own minimum wages as cost of living is different throughout the country

 @B4KKKGG from California  answered…3mos3MO

As much as I would love to say make it a living wage, the way our economy works right now means that *someone or something* has to be at the bottom and if we increase the minimum wage at all, the price of everything else will rise with it

 @B4G9PQY from California  answered…3mos3MO

it's not livable for most people, but increasing it won't do good either, if inflation is controlled and having things to be affordable again, maybe the talk to increase of minimum wage won't be a topic to begin with.

 @B4DN39X from California  answered…3mos3MO

Make it so that people don’t need to take a minimum wage job in the first place by enabling all qualified people the opportunity to get a job

 @B45RDL6Progressive from California  answered…3mos3MO

Yes, make it a living wage, but allow some exemptions for some very small businesses and some industries, including possibly for part-time jobs for teenagers or students, and paid-interns.

 @B45GFWR from California  answered…4mos4MO

It depends because if minimum wage goes that cost of living will go up. If the cost of living stays the same then yes minimum wage should go up.

 @8RMJ5XL  from California  answered…4mos4MO

Yes, but I believe the minimum wage should be changed on a yearly basis based on inflation rate by a separate branch of government.

 @B3Y3QTB from California  answered…4mos4MO

There should not be a raising of the federal minimum wage. Instead, minimum wage should be based on the cost of living in each individual state.

 @B3VGV2T  from California  answered…4mos4MO

The debate surrounding whether the government should raise the federal minimum wage involves economic and social considerations. Raising the minimum wage could help lift low-wage workers out of poverty and stimulate the economy, but it might also lead to job losses and higher prices for some goods and services.
Arguments in Favor:
Poverty Reduction:
A higher minimum wage could directly increase the income of low-wage workers, potentially reducing poverty and inequality.
Economic Stimulation:
More money in the hands of low-wage earners could lead to increased consumer spending, which can boo…  Read more

 @B3TFM78 from California  answered…4mos4MO

The government should have a respectable minimum wage but because each state is different, states should also be able to set a high er wage if decided

 @B3SKJPG from California  answered…4mos4MO

Yes, and abolish the tip policy in the US that has been built around. The idea of tipping scales the income to be inconsistence and results in the inflation rate outcast the minimum wage.

 @B3Q2T99 from California  answered…4mos4MO

The government should raise the federal minimum wage. There are a lot of families trying to survive and the young ones contributing should be making decent amount of money where ever they work at.

 @B3N5FGDLibertarian from California  answered…4mos4MO

No, minimal wage should only be temporary and not made into a career. It should be a job that you have when you are pursuing an education.

 @B3KFQ44 from California  answered…4mos4MO

I think minimum wage should go up only if it must to be able to have people working for it to earn minimum money. Due to inflation, if minimum wage did not increase, workers wouldn't be able to afford things like gas or fast food.

 @B37B7J5 from California  answered…5mos5MO

People that live by themselves and pay for their own housing should be able to afford it if they have a full time job

 @B32W5V5No Labels from California  answered…5mos5MO

Raising the Minimum wage is just a band-aid/ quick fix for the real issues of poor wages and cost of living.

  @B2ZQJYP from California  answered…5mos5MO

Although minimum wage should be adjusted for inflation it does cause prices to increase creating a never ending cycle, and most minimum wage jobs are meant to be a stepping stone in life.

 @B2ZJ5WZ from California  answered…5mos5MO

Yes and adjust it every year for inflation also create a maximum wage of a certain amount of millions per year and anything else is taxed at 100%

 @B2Z8853 from California  answered…5mos5MO

Yes because for instance immagine only one person in a family of 5 can afford for their family an they are only 16, raising the minimum wage would be very beneficial

 @B2YDYTS from California  answered…5mos5MO

Yes but modestly so not to cause inflation and put too much pressure on small businesses but should be increased t adjust for inflation

 @B2TQJJYRepublican from California  answered…5mos5MO

It's way higher in some states than others. I think they should be closer if not equal, because prices in states differ.

 @B2SZWC9 from California  answered…5mos5MO

Wage should always be enough to have a healthy livelihood and all wage decisions should be the jurisdiction of unions and workers' councils.

 @B2Q9728 from California  answered…5mos5MO

No, wages should be moved up and down based on the performance of the individual working however. I should not be getting paid the same as someone who is doing nothing while I do all the work. Stricter work environments need to be in place to maintain stronger work environments and less lazy workers. Everyone should do their part and make companies efficient. Those harder workers should either make more or those lazy workers should make less.

 @B2KCCWH from California  answered…5mos5MO

I believe that minimum wage should be changed according to minimum wage, however, it may make the prices for inflation go up even higher and have other side effects

 @B2H6PFX from California  answered…6mos6MO

Government should regulate the disparity within companies, the gap between the lowest paid and the highest paid should not exceed a certain percentage. This should include total compensation, not just salary.

 @B2H5BKT from California  answered…6mos6MO

No, wages should be based on circumstances such as age, parental/ family needs, etc. A 16 year old should not be able to make the same wage as a 35 year old with 2 children

 @B2GXYF2Democrat from California  answered…6mos6MO

I do think that in almost every state this needs to go up, but it should really be done more by the states. The minimum wage in California for example may need to be significantly higher than say the wage in South Dakota.

 @B2GK6LQ from California  answered…6mos6MO

It depends really I don't think that it should be raised anymore, mostly since it's not supposed to be a liveable wage. Also if they keep increasing it inflation and prices are just going to keep rising.

 @B2FQV43 from California  answered…6mos6MO

Yes, if cost of living is going up so should federal minimum wage for, we all are living in hard times.

 @B2F8SJB from California  answered…6mos6MO

Increase the federal minimum wage every year according to inflation, but establish it as a living wage in the state with the lowest cost of living so as to allow a floor which other states may establish minimum wages in relation to

 @B2F64JN from California  answered…6mos6MO

While I believe that it should be a living wage, raising minimum wage will make many things more expensive.

 @B2F557LCommunist from California  answered…6mos6MO

Yes but raise minimum wage so that people could live off said wage but prevent companies from retaliating.

 @B2F4PCJ from California  answered…6mos6MO

The government should stabilize the economy to make things affordable and livable instead of changing the minimum wage because if you cannot stabilize the economy then changing the minimum wage will do nothing or make things worse.

 @B2DQC9L from California  answered…6mos6MO

Yes raise the minimum wage, but only in a way that does not drastically raise the price of goods in the same area.

 @B2DPNRP from California  answered…6mos6MO

Yes but prevent companies from retaliating so that they can have a livable wage but not have to suffer from increased prices.

 @B2DHT8F from California  answered…6mos6MO

I agree that minimum wage should increase to a point where a person is able to sustain themselves, but increasing it will also only increase prices for inflation, which needs to go down

 @B2D5J7H from California  answered…6mos6MO

By increasing the minimum wage, we trap ourselves in the cycle of inflation, but everyone deserves to be supported financially.

 @B27RBT7 from California  answered…6mos6MO

The federal minimum wage should be abolished and the states should take up the matter. The minimum wage should be a living wage but living expenses differ from state to state too much for one federal minimum wage that doesn't hurt businesses in certain states.

 @B24VGZX from California  answered…7mos7MO

Minimum wage or monthly income would be set at the county level up to 40% of the county median income (doesn't depend on government or inflation since this is set by the private sector) not at the state or federal level why it is too broad. Setting it at the municipal level it is too concentrated especially for wealthy municipalities

 @B23R6DCNo Labels from California  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, increase it incrementally, tie it to inflation, and allow the states the flexibility to apply their own minimum wages

 @B2263NNNo Labels from California  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, incrementally increase the federal wage, advocate for small businesses, and allow for state flexibility

 @9ZZNY2T from California  answered…7mos7MO

No it will only hurt small businesses. Wage standards should be between the employer and the employee.

 @9ZLV56HNo Labels from California  answered…8mos8MO

No, , this will only cause prices to increase in a never ending cycle, and in any case minimum wage jobs are meant to develop experience, not support a family.

 @9ZGH6GTPeace and Freedom from California  answered…8mos8MO

I believe that minimum wage jobs are not to support a family but there are also some people that cannot get a better job to provide for a family.

 @9ZDSNB8 from California  answered…8mos8MO

No, let cities and states decide because what is a fair minimum wage in SF may be way too high in Tulsa and vice versa

 @9YNMGRF from California  answered…8mos8MO

Overall, the minimum wage situation in the United States is a very odd predicament. Yet I still do believe that the federal minimum wage should balance out with the living wage of America.

 @9Y5DR6S from California  answered…8mos8MO

Income should be different for different regions depending on cost of living and average household income.

 @9Y2QDV4 from California  answered…8mos8MO

No, but there should be a maximum wage for rich individuals where anything over that goes back to the people.

 @9XS3G7D  from California  answered…8mos8MO

Yes, but cap inflation so that the raise actually helps people and doesn't disadvantage people already making more than minimum wage

 @9XNW5FN from California  answered…8mos8MO

There should be a formula by which minimum wage should be calculated. It should not be a voting issue.

 @9XMV7FK from California  answered…8mos8MO

Yes, make it a living wage, and make sure it stays adjusted according to inflation. Decreased or increased depending on the year.

 @9XH3MR9 from California  answered…8mos8MO

No, all wage standards should be eliminated and instead issue a monthly stipend for minimum living expenses or provide minimum shelter and food for all.

 @9X2JVKM from California  answered…8mos8MO

I think it depends. I think it should be a livable wage but if that just causes everything to go inflate, then there was no point in the first place

 @9WT5JLT from California  answered…8mos8MO

Regardless of the change in federal minimum wage, things will only get more expensive under the current economic system.

 @9WSNHF7Democrat from California  answered…8mos8MO

As it should not be used as a main source of income, some people may not be able to achieve more and it should be increased by a very little bit.

 @9WMCG5Z from California  answered…9mos9MO

A minimum wage only exists because of private profit. Unless we can orient private enterprises to be working towards a better society, a minimum wage is inevitable. Only change the wage only up prices are regulated.

 @9WHRFF5 from California  answered…9mos9MO

No, it raises prices and starts a never ending cycle, and, the majority of minimum wage jobs are meant to develop experience, not support a family.

 @9W94PDD from California  answered…9mos9MO

yes the minimum wage should be raised since everything has gotten extremely expensive. I mean unless they are wanting us on the streets.

 @9W8GS69 from California  answered…9mos9MO

the current economy is quite bad as it seems, the government should raise minimum wage to a move livable amount

 @9W6JVFV from California  answered…9mos9MO

No, as long as prices go down for everyday things and bills. Yes, if prices go up for everyday things and bills.

 @9W6F9T3 from California  answered…9mos9MO

The government needs to find a way to make the American dream more achievable whether that be raising the federal minimum wage or trying to stop inflation

 @9W6CFKW from California  answered…9mos9MO

yes and no: yes because low-income families will struggle in the inflated economy, and no because inflation will just keep rising (I believe).

 @9W4KW9P from California  answered…9mos9MO

Yes, should be a relevant wage. $10 seems fair. But workers should receive mandatory % raise every year worked.

 @9W34MKQIndependent from California  answered…9mos9MO

No. Everyone knows raising the minimum wage is insufficient. Lowering the cost of living in this country will be better for the nation and it's citizens. Increasing education that leads to higher pay is also what should be raised.

 @9W2HR96 from California  answered…9mos9MO

No, however, the minimum wage should be adjusted every few years to be adjusted to local inflation, and should be different on a state-to-state basis to prevent a overt rise of price to keep up with the new demand and lack thereof of supply.

 @9VSSQV7 from California  answered…9mos9MO

Raise minimum wage federally but not for students while in school. But minimum wage should be more of an introductory wage and not a living wage.

 @9VR2S2BReform from California  answered…9mos9MO

If we increase minimum wage, many people will lose their jobs to corporate greed and the consumer will be made to pay the difference. Lower the cost of living and make minimum wage livable.

 @9VPKFJL from California  answered…9mos9MO

We shouldn't have a federal minimum wage but we should have a federal law requiring states to have a minimum wage based on the cost of living there.
