Barb Byrum, the current Ingham County Clerk, has announced her candidacy for Michigan Secretary of State in the 2026 election.
Byrum, a Democrat with 18 years of public service, is positioning herself as a strong advocate for election integrity and public transparency. The seat is open because current Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson is term-limited and running for governor. Byrum will face competition from Deputy Secretary of State Aghogho Edevbie, who has also entered the race.
The contest is expected to be closely watched as it will determine the future direction of Michigan's election administration.

Really glad to see Barb Byrum jumping into this race—she’s got a solid track record and actually cares about protecting voting rights. With so much misinformation out there, we need someone who’ll fight for fair and accessible elections. Looking forward to seeing how her campaign shapes up against Edevbie!
