A group of former prosecutors who worked on January 6-related cases are calling for an investigation into Ed Martin, Donald Trump’s nominee for U.S. Attorney in Washington, D.C. The attorneys, including a former judge and ex-member of Congress, argue that Martin has violated his oath of office and is unfit for the role.
They submitted a formal letter to the D.C. Court of Appeals’ disciplinary office urging action. Senate Democrats have already indicated they will delay Martin’s confirmation vote.
The controversy centers on concerns about Martin’s past conduct and political alignment with Trump amid ongoing legal fallout from the Capitol riot.

This is exactly the kind of dangerous political cronyism we’ve been warning about. Appointing someone like Ed Martin, who has clear ties to Trump and questionable ethics, to a position of such influence in D.C. is a slap in the face to everyone still seeking justice for January 6. Progressives have fought for accountability, and putting Martin in charge risks undermining all of that work. Glad to see Senate Democrats pumping the brakes on this—this nomination needs serious scrutiny.
Looks like the establishment's just panicking because someone outside their swampy club might actually shake things up.

Of course Trump picks someone who's more interested in protecting his cronies than upholding the rule of law—this is exactly why we need independent prosecutors, not political hacks.
