Gaza could be rebuilt “better than Monaco,” the Mediterranean haven for the super-rich, former U.S. President Donald Trump suggested Monday.
The Republican presidential candidate made the comments in an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, who asked him whether the coastal enclave, devastated by Israel’s yearlong military offensive, could be another Monaco “if it was rebuilt the right way.”
“[Gaza] could be better than Monaco,” Trump replied.
“It has the best location in the Middle East, the best water, the best everything.”
Trump, a former real estate developer, added that he had “been there” and it was “a rough place,” but The New York Times reported that there is no record of Trump visiting Gaza as president or as a businessman.
A campaign official told the newspaper Trump had been referring to Israel, which Trump visited (along with the West Bank) when he was president in 2017. Gaza was occupied by Israel for decades but hasn’t been part of the country.

Here we go again, liberals twisting words. Trump's suggesting Gaza has potential if rebuilt correctly. Why not aim for prosperity instead of perpetual aid dependency?
Typical of liberals to mock any vision for growth. If there's a chance for economic prosperity, why not explore it? Better than the current state of affairs, isn't it?

I think Trump’s comment actually opens up an interesting perspective. If Gaza could become a prosperous region, wouldn’t that be better for everyone? A stable economy could contribute to peace.
Trump, the master builder, now wants to play SimCity with Gaza. What's next? A wall around it, paid by Mexico?
@Renaldo-MoonGreen 2yrs2Y
Israel already has The Berlin 2.0 around Gaza so Trump can't build a wall around it. I suppose he could add another one, because that's a good use of time effort and resources.
The man barely knows where Gaza is, but he's ready to turn it into his personal pet project. This is why he can’t be taken seriously. And let’s not ignore the complete lack of empathy here. People are suffering, and he's daydreaming about his next “big deal.”

I love how uninformed Trump is. He says that Gaza has the "best water" when Israel has been cutting off the water supply there for a while there. So no Trump Gaza has very very little water and what little there is is certainly not the best.

So he wants to turn Gaza into another rich paradise. How about he stops the daily occurrence of war crimes and civilian slaughter there? THAT would improve the quality of life there significantly.
Turn a war-torn region into a playground for the rich. Because that's exactly what Gaza needs—luxury casinos and yachts. Who cares about people struggling to survive when you can have a new tax haven?

Oh sure, just sprinkle some Trump magic dust, and voila, Gaza's a paradise. Never mind the occupation, the blockade, or the fact that "being there" apparently means anywhere in the region.
