replace police with unarmed community based responders for non-violent calls, and increase funding for police departments in higher crime rate communities

 @92LNWRNIndependent from California  answered…3yrs3Y

There should be more community based responders for non-violent calls, and more training for the police department. Not one or the other.

 @B3SLTWMNo Labels from California  answered…2mos2MO

The police are important and need funding but local communities that are poorer need social outreach to prevent crimes

 @B3MTJMZ from California  answered…2mos2MO

Split the funding, half goes to local police departments and the other half to social programs. This way, everyone has a win.

 @9XLLNMM from California  answered…6mos6MO

Police should be required to have a higher education, especially in social welfare! They remain to protect the community, not to capture & keep slaves as they were originally intended for & why they were originally created.

 @9X2T4KLDemocrat from California  answered…6mos6MO

No, instead we should focuses on the issues within the police department. Good funding is essential to combat crime especilly in high crime areas.

 @9WJG78V from California  answered…7mos7MO

Defunding the police to be redirected to other programs that don't inheritly provide protection is wrong because those institutions that already serve and protect the community won't benefit from local groups spreading peace and good ideals. To actually protect the community force is going to be necessary for some situations.

 @9S7L3QJ from California  answered…9mos9MO

No police funding should not be taken for the funding of it, instead separate funding should be provided by the government.

 @9Q9ZYQ2 from California  answered…10mos10MO

No, I think police training should be changed and adapted to be better. Those within the police department should learn ways to control their violence against citizens, while I understand citizens do not hold back but there is so much police brutality out there, it makes all cops look bad.

 @9KHYY7M from California  answered…1yr1Y

I support both of these institutions, one need not suffer for the sake of the other. That, and the community ought to pay for what they feel is important to them. If they feel police are more important than parks, let them make policy and give money to those institutions, or vice versa.

 @9HQDGKC from California  answered…1yr1Y

social and community based programs should have moe funding police need less but not to be abolished or replaced

 @9HNVB8X from California  answered…1yr1Y

Funding should remain or increase but should not develop militaristic police forces. Officers should be more educated and receive higher levels of training.

 @9HB27KD from California  answered…1yr1Y

Though I do think police should be funded I believe that also don't need all the money and a portion of it can be redirected.

 @9FNVYWM from California  answered…2yrs2Y

Add medical and social services to teams w/police to go to less violent/mental health/domestic/drug calls. It seems like police used to be very good at deescalating situations but seem too quick to pull trigger these days.

 @9FMWTNS from California  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but only towards community-based programs that enhance the well-being of the localized areas and add to the overall safety of the people

 @9FLSPS5 from California  answered…2yrs2Y

I feel yes and no with this. Police officers should be trained better, but funding for programs is also important.

 @9FL3KL7 from California  answered…2yrs2Y

Increase funding yet also increase training in the US to become a police officer.

 @9FL3J78 from California  answered…2yrs2Y

No, but there should be just as much money going into social and community based programs.

 @9FKX4YMIndependent from California  answered…2yrs2Y

No, but increase training for police departments, along with conflict de-escalation.

 @9FKNGB9 from California  answered…2yrs2Y

Places with high crime rates and good percentages in their sucess in preventing and catching criminals and crimes, should be given more funding, while those areas with low crime and poor percentages at catching crime should be reviewed and either have changes made to who is on the police force, and the amount of funding they recieve (based on if they need more tto be more successful or if they don't need more because they don't need more money due to low crimerates and such). Police abusing power should be punished severly and those who have abused their power should be removed from the police force immediately.

 @9FKN5Q8 from California  answered…2yrs2Y

no, they should have more and better training programs that teach how to handle situations better with no emotion coming into play

 @9FFL9Q7 from California  answered…2yrs2Y

No, but the police should be immediately fired upon their second offense and require stricter training to be hired.

 @9DSB9CX from California  answered…2yrs2Y

No, although the police department are part of the government, they can still benefit the same amount from the money as the community based programs do.

 @9DJJ9YP from California  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9DJHB9WDemocrat from California  answered…2yrs2Y

The funds should be divided into the olice departmet and social and community based programs.

 @9BP96FG from California  answered…2yrs2Y

Add a mental health check to all police officers in training the money should go there

 @9BN9CMK from California  answered…2yrs2Y

I think that there should be more checks and balances within the police department, but defunding them only makes it more difficult to hire well trained and morally set office and leads to more corruption. However, there should be more funding in community based programs as well.

 @99B2X9L from California  answered…2yrs2Y

yes, but only when those social and community-based programs reduce the need for police departments

 @96WLFWH from California  answered…3yrs3Y

Better public education and public parks and sidewalks and life in communities to decrease crime rates.

 @95T4SXQ from California  answered…3yrs3Y

The combat training for police should be more emphasized. They should know what to do without using a gun.

 @95SRGD2Progressive from California  answered…3yrs3Y

I believe the money should be redirected into special training programs for officers like for example, how to discuss issues with a person of color, people with disabilities like down syndrome or autism. Often, police do not know what to do in situations regarding people who match this description and the police need to be better educated.

 @95SQDSW from California  answered…3yrs3Y

I feel like we should decrease police funding, but not abolish. We could also use a small portion to put towards social and community based programs.

 @95RT9SC from California  answered…3yrs3Y

While local police in small towns shouldn't be abolished they shouldn't get more money either. They are still the people you'll see in the news shooting and harming POC because they're racist. Community based programs should be more funded

 @95R4PNL from California  answered…3yrs3Y

Police should still have funding, I think that some money could go to other programs that could deal with certain issues that the police don't necessarily need to deal with.

 @95QPLTH from California  answered…3yrs3Y

i think yes but in communities with higher crime rates there should be funding for more police to help protect

 @95QMFF4Democrat from California  answered…3yrs3Y

Don't abolish the police but do more background checks on who's becoming a police and what their intentions are.

 @95PVK43Democrat from California  answered…3yrs3Y

Do not abolish the police department but also redirect a portion of the funds towards more important programs. Putting more police in high crime rate communities only means police brutality, more people of color will be profiled and killed

 @956R33Q from California  answered…3yrs3Y

 @956GMKH from California  answered…3yrs3Y

 @955KVFX from California  answered…3yrs3Y

Funding should be dependent on the police departments effectiveness/reputation

 @954T42F from California  answered…3yrs3Y

Funding for the police should remain the same and there should be an increase in social and community based programs.

 @94X2X8Y from California  answered…3yrs3Y

No, not from police funding. Train officers how to handle conflict better and fund the community. Not form police funds.

 @94QBBTL from California  answered…3yrs3Y

 @948MQWY from California  answered…3yrs3Y

No, but increase the amount of training police go through before they can become a police officer.

 @93KY3S2 from California  answered…3yrs3Y

Funding should be equal. There should be enough to provide for both parties/organizations which help the community immensely.

 @92V8X94 from California  answered…3yrs3Y

No, but increase training and reform the training methods and curriculum

 @zellhandsIndependent from California  answered…3yrs3Y

We should add unarmed community-based responders for non-violent calls as well as increase funding for training.

 @8Z5NHT5Democrat from California  answered…3yrs3Y

Funding for police should increase to improve training and the quality of the police force. They do not necessarily need to have more weapons and resources, but better, more strict training to ensure that 'accidents' don't happen anymore should be put into place. If this save money great, but I am also fine if it ends up costing more money to improve the training of officers.

 @8Z5NB64Democrat from California  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8Z5HYM6 from California  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8YVHMR4 from California  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8YV6HFQ from California  answered…3yrs3Y

Police are very important to society and without proper funding it would be a lot harder for them to operate.

 @8YNN7T3 from California  answered…3yrs3Y

Funding should go to adding more learning aid programs like basic human psychology to help them understand situations and calls better

 @8XZJLGV from California  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8XXBWPX from California  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8XPFPXZ from California  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes and no because yes I feel like the police should have good equipment so they don´t die on duty but it has to be a good community based programs if they aren´t good programs than the police should get to keep the money for they own equipment.

 @8WVF674 from California  answered…4yrs4Y

It should be equally distributed, both are here to protect the community

 @8WS8CBBWomen’s Equality from California  answered…4yrs4Y

Not so sure about this question but I think that anybody who wants to be a police should do a lot of training and have a healthy mentality, not be racist. They shouldn't have the right to take someone's life away. For example, when they get called and can't do anything else but shoot, they should't shoot to kill but to stop the person from doing whatever they were going to do, they can shoot them in the leg or arm or shoulder, somewhere where they can't be too harmed but harmed enough to stop doing something bad. they should't shoot to kill.

 @8W7VS67Peace and Freedom from California  answered…4yrs4Y

Redirect some of the funding from local police departments to social and community based programs, but not all of the funds.

 @8W7FB6C from California  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8W54L4H from California  answered…4yrs4Y

no but the city should already have a funds for social and community based programs

 @8W4LS7Z from California  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8SDX2LH from California  answered…4yrs4Y

no, but funding from other areas should be directed to social and community-based programs, as well as to better training and monitoring of police officers.

 @8QPLPSZWomen’s Equality from California  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8PT3RZG from California  answered…4yrs4Y

The funding between the local police departments should be split between the department and social and community based programs

 @8N9SV8M from California  answered…5yrs5Y

Increase funding to the police and require more rigorous training along with being eescorted with an individual who is specialized in deescalation so the police are able to learn that as well.

 @8N9RYRL from California  answered…5yrs5Y

No, but hold police to a higher standard than average citizens, so only corrupt cops are harmed.

 @8MPQG7L from California  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8M85K2Z from California  answered…5yrs5Y

Neutral, but increase and improve police training and discipline in order to prevent corrupt policemen and unjust events.

 @8M4Z2Z9Independent from California  answered…5yrs5Y

increase funding in the right areas for the police force. For example, psychology training for dealing with all types of races religions and backgrounds.

 @8LKDPGK from California  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, while the police will always be needed, more effort is being put into stopping problems when they come up rather than trying to cull problems at the source. And the hyper-funding of the police force can lead to nasty corruption. While this kind of choice made sense decades ago, it is outdated in modern times. We need to focus on monetarily empowering therapists and other services while also making them available/affordable for low-income families. The more we do that, we could see less criminals in the future as many potential criminals may be robbed of their motive to do wrong if they just get the help they need.

 @8LHBJ5WPeace and Freedom from California  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, and reduce the payment and provide more training for them since they obviously need it

 @8LGR438Peace and Freedom from California  answered…5yrs5Y

They should both get funded because police are important just as social community activities are.

 @8LFMVFT from California  answered…5yrs5Y

No, because cops need better technology because you see people getting away from cops.

 @8LFCFHH from California  answered…5yrs5Y

No, but they should use the fund for longer training for police officers, and teach them how to respect basic human rights.

 @8L6H4F4 from California  answered…5yrs5Y

No, increase training programs for the police so they can get the proper training they need and not have excuses on why they did what they did

 @8KFKNK5 from California  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8KBKJTXWomen’s Equality from California  answered…5yrs5Y

Some budgeting should be redistributed to those physiologically educated in assisting troubled people. The police should still be funded but some aspects of funding should be rearranged between others who are more suited to solve certain problems.

 @8K79Y2D from California  answered…5yrs5Y

No, but officers should go through pieces of training every year such as psychological evaluations just so you know where their opinions stand.

 @8JKGRT3 from California  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8JDPLR9Independent from California  answered…5yrs5Y

no, we should place more funds to provide an extra emphasis on training, and also invest in social and community-based programs as well as school programs.

 @8HZVM3C from California  answered…5yrs5Y

Some money should be reallocated to social and community based programs, while still providing funding to departments to cover day to day operation costs and better training programs for police officers.

 @8HY52VD from California  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8HSCNBB from California  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8H4HVPF from California  answered…5yrs5Y

Continue to fully fund local police departments, but also allocate more money to social and community based programs.

 @8G892H9Libertarian from California  answered…5yrs5Y

No, decriminalize victimless crimes would reduce state prison capatities over 82%. Use the savings to increase police funding for training, and pay for social and community based programs with .

 @8G53FJV from California  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8FNNG8X from California  answered…5yrs5Y

Funding should continue to be made available so that police training and level of experience should be changed accordingly before an individual is made an official police officer due to the serious recent events in order to prevent potential future recurrences. And if such ordeals keep happening, then it would be better to redirect local police funds.

 @8FNGD8F from California  answered…5yrs5Y

The system for training police should be reformed so that it is as difficult to become a police officer as it is to become a doctor. Both are supposed to save lives, both should be properly trained.

 @8F7NVHSWomen’s Equality from California  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, we need to decrease funding for the police, and either abolish them or reform.

 @8DXZQHF from California  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8DXSDFGLibertarian from California  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8DSBXFMLibertarian from California  answered…5yrs5Y
