Give them the option to carry after going through a mental evaluation and proper handgun course.

 @9F38K7M from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

There shouldn't be a need fot teachers to have guns so no get rid of them all

 @9CKHMKQ from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

Require training courses for all teachers and allow the choice of non lethal weapons for them.

 @B2P9BC7No Labels from Washington  answered…4mos4MO

it should not be necessary but there should be trained professionals that handle them. Maybe arm the teachers with a bat instead

 @9VNGTM3Libertarian from Washington  answered…8mos8MO

Yes, but the teachers should have to undergo very rigorous and thorough training and psychological testing. Plus they should have a fingerprint safe in the room so no kids can get to it.

 @9VDFCY3 from Washington  answered…8mos8MO

Yes, if the teacher or security guard passes extensive psychological evaluations and is provided even more extensive training on how to properly use the firearm in different emergency situations.

 @9V6HQC8 from Washington  answered…8mos8MO

I think depending on what they do and how long they've been in the united states and also if they had a conceal and carry permit

 @9T97JV3 from Washington  answered…9mos9MO

Yes, but only ones with proper training and they have to renew their training every year to two years

 @9T33939 from Washington  answered…9mos9MO

I think it should be left up to states and/or districts, however, if it's going to be allowed there needs to be proper training for the teacher as well as a safe to store the firearm when its not needed.

 @9SCKJY8 from Washington  answered…9mos9MO

Allow teachers to carry with proper training and practices for making sure gun is not accessible to students

 @9RG3RJQ from Washington  answered…10mos10MO

Yes but it needs to be hidden in the room with access being granted after getting a message with like a code to the safe during active threat scenarios

 @9NFW5SCLibertarian from Washington  answered…12mos12MO

Yes, if we continue to fund and operate public schools, then teachers should be allowed but not required to carry, and professionally trained, armed security guards should be also be mandatory.

 @9KJCK7N from Washington  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, as long as the teacher is deemed responsible enough to have one (I.e no criminal history, trained in proper safety and use of a firearm, and is willing to conceal the firearm within a safe)

 @9K9PTJM from Washington  answered…1yr1Y

No because it is far too often that teachers have been shown to not be able to control their emotions.

 @9FLBPX5Progressive from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

I believe gun trained teachers should be capable of carrying a firearm, and strictly kept on theirselves and require a proper gun safe no students know about.

 @9FB3P79 from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

If the teacher has their concealed weapons permit, has a clean record, and mentally stable, they should be able to have a gun in a classified space in their classroom.

 @9F668W5 from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

ONLY if teachers are well trained and locked in a safe that only they have a key to open it. The key must also never leave their person

 @9DWT6M4Constitution  from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but only if they want. Also either hire armed security or allow people to do the security.

 @9D7T28G from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9BTW98J from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, once they have undergone rigorous training and can pass semi-annual psychological testing and maintain quarterly weapons qualifications

 @99L33VG from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

 @96WLTGXDemocrat from Washington  answered…3yrs3Y

 @96PNRQX from Washington  answered…3yrs3Y

 @96KDLYL from Washington  answered…3yrs3Y

 @96GR2FX from Washington  answered…3yrs3Y

No. It is not, nor should it be, part of their job description. They are nowhere near qualified to carry a weapon, and it increases the risk of shootings. We need to focus on the root of the problem instead of coming up with ridiculous preventive measures that won't work in the first place.

 @944V6R2Republican from Washington  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes if they’re properly trained and licensed. Otherwise armed , trained, & licensed security personnel should be hired.

 @943GKLX from Washington  answered…3yrs3Y

 @93H8THBRepublican from Washington  answered…3yrs3Y

Leave it up to the Schools or Teachers to decide whether or not to carry guns

 @924R7LW from Washington  answered…3yrs3Y

Depending of their strength and is wise enough to away from children especially curious ones who like to sneak around and steal stuff and like being troublemakers

 @8YS66WYLibertarian from Washington  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8YC7S73 from Washington  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, if they are equipped with a concealed weapons permit or have taken a gun safety course and have had a mental evaluation.

 @8Y8NPSM from Washington  answered…3yrs3Y

If a teacher has extremely good training and has gone through multiple background checks I think they should be able to carry a gun but under other circumstances I do not think they should be allowed to have guns in a public school

 @8Y5R5YM from Washington  answered…3yrs3Y

No, if our government controlled our border and immigration this problem wouldn't exist.

 @8XV4FWJ from Washington  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes. Uniformed security guards are the first to be shot and concealed carry individuals have a high rate of gun safety. It should be voluntary.

 @8XJ3C46 from Washington  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8X5VSG3 from Washington  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8WNPQNRRepublican from Washington  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes but should have to be properly trained with continuous qualification

 @8W5YRJX from Washington  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes but if the teacher is trained to have a fire arm and keeps its somewhere where students can't get to it

 @8VFZWMT from Washington  answered…4yrs4Y

They must have a background check first and must take a safety test for them to carry and bring it too school.

This question is so tough to talk about, im so unsure on what should be done

 @8QDZJPNIndependent from Washington  answered…4yrs4Y

Perhaps more of a state by state basis and with extensive background and training

 @8P2S3XZ from Washington  answered…5yrs5Y

If allowed by vote of local citizens then it becomes the teacher’s choice

 @8NS92M7Independent from Washington  answered…5yrs5Y

Requiring guns and allowing guns are different, id be in support of allowing a teacher a gun if he wished it, but Not in support of requiring guns for teachers.

 @8LQPVZ6Constitution from Washington  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8LQ5Q5K from Washington  answered…5yrs5Y

No, but higher security and possibly other weapons that aren't guns should be used.

 @8KH67CY from Washington  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes but should also be required to take regular training every month and have a sign off for every training session.

 @8H8CKZ7 from Washington  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8H7FMH9American from Washington  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8GLLDRH from Washington  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, but only if they choose to do so and have a concealed carry license

 @8FJ8RPFRepublican from Washington  answered…5yrs5Y

 @9CXC7NV from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

  @TruthHurts101 from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes

Heck yes. Imagine if that transgender shooter had met an armed teacher with an AR-15. The shooter would have 8 holes in five seconds flat.

 @9C8W4VQ from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but with CCW permit and if the local board of education feels it’s right to allow a teacher carry a fire arm in their district

 @9BHNLZ4 from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

No but have more patrols around schools and more police presence on school grounds

 @9B9W6MQ from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

I think that there should be panic buttons installed throughout the school and in classrooms that would automatically lock the classroom doors from being opened in the event of an armed shooter in the building. As well as safe exits for evacuating students from the classrooms

 @9B3DVLP from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

No, teachers should not carry firearms, however I feel we should employ, or have volunteers, that are fully trained military veterans

 @98B73KQ from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but only if they pass intensive tactic, safety, and responsibility training and elect to do so.

 @9897LWM from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

 @976QY7V from Washington  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, if comfortable with a gu. and trained and liseneces to carry with background check.so yearly testing at a shooting range .

 @96XY6CQ from Washington  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but it should ONLY be used in lockdowns. Otherwise, it should be locked up.

 @96X4YW3 from Washington  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but only if the teachers are trained and sufficiently compensated.

 @96FW4XW from Washington  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, properly trained teachers, staff, and faculty should be armed whenever possible, and protected from liability in responding with deadly force against and active shooter.

 @8XBWBX9Libertarian from Washington  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8LRDYR6 from Washington  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, allow open carry option for teachers that want it, after stringent mental health assessment, gun training and gun safety certifications have been passed.
