28 states US states currently allow teachers or school staff to be armed in the classroom under varying conditions. Proponents argue that without guns, teachers or other staff have only limited countermeasures available to them when confronted with a shooter. Opponents, include The National Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers, highlight the elevated risk of accidents and negligent use of firearms as more adults in schools are armed.

Yes, with proper firearm training.
@9WT4DBW7mos7MO
Only a highly specialized and trained police officer should be able to in order to make sure no excavation occurs.
@9W8SJCT7mos7MO
it would depend on the teacher and if they were trained properly in order to handle that type of responsibility.
@9VLGM8G7mos7MO
not every teacher needs a gun, if we could lower the amount of school shootings then this question wouldn't be relevant
@9VBTYKGLibertarian8mos8MO
Should be allowed if they have gone through the proper channels of purchasing and have a conceal carry permit
@9GFXMB22yrs2Y
find out which teachers in each school would be willing to receive training for how to operate a firearm and grant them the ability to carry it if they see it fit to do so.
@9GFBL6X2yrs2Y
I think each classroom should have a hidden gun in a safe with a specific password in case of an emergency or school shooting.
@9G45KDZ2yrs2Y
NEVER ALLOW GUNS AT SCHOOL! NEVER EVER!! I would be scared because I am afraid they would accidentally shoot someone.
@9FVYZFK2yrs2Y
Yes, but would be preferred if the teacher was ex-military and can handle that responsibility. If they cant, law enforcement or trained security should have access to a firearm.
@9FPLKNB2yrs2Y
If it is controlled and the teacher knows how to use it, then yes.
@98Y3N3LRepublican 2yrs2Y
Yes, but only if the school authorizes it
@9F7ZPY32yrs2Y
Of course Not Because the Students would be Scared to death.
@98NTRYSWomen’s Equality2yrs2Y
@96QFTKX3yrs3Y
Only if the state allows guns near schools
@96GB3343yrs3Y
if allowed, they need to be trained and qualified enough to be able to carry a gun safely, but i think protection from school shooters is necessary as well.
@965KKZ33yrs3Y
It depends on the situation only if something is actually happening
@963LQCZ3yrs3Y
Yes but have them be properly trained and background checked. And make sure the weapon is in a safe spot like a vault where only the front of the school can open it from there office.
@95Z7WG83yrs3Y
if they are properly trained yes
@95SDJHN3yrs3Y
Yes, but only allow the ones that are mentally stable
@93RVCXZ3yrs3Y
Yes, but only if they provide proof to the school and to local law enforcement that they are trained in safe, responsible gun ownership and in de-escalating hostile social interactions
No, This would increase shootings in general
@8YMWYRZ3yrs3Y
no, but I also believe they should carry other self defense weapons like batons, knifes, taser, pepper spray.
@8YMSRXJ3yrs3Y
i would say a weapon that could incapacitate someone but not kill
@8WP9RQ84yrs4Y
i think a select few teachers should be able to have guns around the school but with regulations
NO, too risky for accidental shootings but they should hire trained security guards at more schools
@8VY2Q8J4yrs4Y
Teachers should be taught to use firearms to protect children from harm in the building and said firearms should be monitored or restricted to prevent any accidents or crimes committed by the teachers
@8V8HLNJ4yrs4Y
Only if it is the teacher's choice and they've had the proper training (safety and such included)
@8V85XCD4yrs4Y
Yes, but they should have a history with weapons and be strictly monitored
police officers in schools
@8H2J5VV5yrs5Y
Depends on area and need
@8CJJWMD5yrs5Y
Teachers in private schools should be allowed to carry. Also students should be allowed to carry. Government employees shouldn't be allowed to own guns.
@8CDKVJQ5yrs5Y
no hire professional security of local law enforcement in only hi crime areas not nation wide.
@98JQGGL2yrs2Y
Teachers who are trained in gun safety, and are given a background check should be allowed to carry a gun at school. Teachers should not be provided a gun, but if the choose to have one and have the requirements, they are allowed to. Also the guns that teachers have should be limited to ones that are able to protect themselves, but not huge guns that can be seen by children and would endanger the class. They should be small enough to hide from the kids.
@983532RRepublican2yrs2Y
EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE GUNS HOPEFULLY ONE DAY WE'LL UP GRADE TO RBGs
@979K4SN3yrs3Y
It depends on the area you live in, and if the teacher has the background to be able to hold a gun without having any glaring problems
@977L99X3yrs3Y
It depends if there's an active shooter, or psychopathic murderer inside a school killing like, 90 students, in an elementary school in Texas.
@96V4GJP3yrs3Y
A select few teachers should be trained to use a gun in the case of a threat to the school. However, the teachers who have the guns should be kept anonymous to prevent any discrimination of the teachers.
@96TFLZ63yrs3Y
No, some teachers are crazy I wouldn't trust them with a gun
@8VQTKG7Republican4yrs4Y
they should be allowed to have one in their classroom in the case of a school shooter.
@8FV3FWWWomen’s Equality5yrs5Y
if they are careful with it and don't show it around
@8FHQFDS5yrs5Y
Teachers should be granted the right to conceal carry or safely store a gun in their classroom if they want to and have gone through training to prove their competence.
@8VMDCS74yrs4Y
