No, there needs to be more gun control to prevent mass shootings altogether.

 @B53CC4Y from Texas  answered…1mo1MO

Even though having a gun would benefit the teacher in case of an emergency, there is a high chance that a student could have access to that gun.

 @B533XBC from Texas  answered…1mo1MO

Yes, I believe that this could be the only way to end violent and deadly crimes within schools; The only concern would be certain teachers may not like the thought of protecting students with a deadly weapon, security factors such as how the teachers would make sure that their weapon will be secured safely at all times, and licensing, making sure all teachers will have a license to carry and possibly have concealed carry.

 @B4P8Q5W from Texas  answered…2mos2MO

Yes, there should be designated handlers on campus that remain unknown to students, provided they go through the necessary screening and training.

 @B4J5H6T from Texas  answered…2mos2MO

I believe that every teacher should take a class, on handeling a gun, and if they want to, they can have access to the firearm at school for protection only.

 @B4H5F7XVeteran  from Texas  answered…2mos2MO

Yes, and they should receive gun safety and training on how to use them effectively and safely if they want to carry at school.

 @B2ZT4P5 from Texas  answered…4mos4MO

Yes, but these teachers need to go through proper training and tests to make sure their mental capacity is well enough to do so. And keep it where students don’t know where it is.

 @B2RTFNL from Texas  answered…4mos4MO

Yes, it could be safer for at least a single police officer with a fire arm within a campus although special training I believe should be required and high alert for his or her surroundings at all times for their are children, teens, and adults around. Although yes he would be their to protect others it should always be noted to be aware of those who are around you and such a dangerous tool.

 @9ZPX44R from Texas  answered…6mos6MO

I think that they should but only for protection of a threat like a school shooter and they should do a background check and make sure theyre mentally stable

 @9Y5FLVZ from Texas  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, if given proper training and the firearm is properly kept and stored properly to prevent accidental shootings

 @9XZW2ZD from Texas  answered…7mos7MO

I believe it matters what kind of school they are teaching at, what area the school is in, and if the school has had past instances of school shootings

 @9XZDS57 from Texas  answered…7mos7MO

It should be a teacher's choice, not many teachers can take a life, but a teacher who wants to carry should be allowed to keep their classroom safe. If there's a school where teachers aren't carrying, there should be a few trained security guards. Also, for teachers that want to carry, they should have to go through psychological testing and safety training.

 @9XRZNDHRepublican from Texas  answered…7mos7MO

Every School either needs local police in them or security who are armed with the correct equipment to take care of a situation

 @9X9NB4M from Texas  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, if they are trained and pass a psychological test and have a mental health check-up on a regular basis.

 @9STHMXX from Texas  answered…9mos9MO

If the teachers were put through a gun safety course and were taught how efficiently shoot a firearm then I think they should be able to be armed as they please.

 @9SGF9J6Independent from Texas  answered…9mos9MO

No, schools should be mandated to have a number of police officers proportionate to the size of the school on duty during school hours and 1 on duty until all faculty have left for the day. These officers could be permanently assigned or rotated on a weekly or monthly basis.

 @9S7F35D from Texas  answered…10mos10MO

No, as public education is typically underfunded many teachers may not be sound of mind enough to have weapons on hand.

 @9QYQQLXRepublican from Texas  answered…11mos11MO

Yes, but teachers who carry should be required to have extensive training on gun safety, use, etc. every year

 @9LV5YS3 from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, but only voluntarily, with a concealed carry permit, and after undergoing specialized safety training and a psych eval.

 @9LQF67X from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, only in certain classes and they showed allow and provide teachers personal gun practice and learn the laws to protect the teacher and the children.

 @9L9FXQC from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

teachers that have their own firearm training and their own gun should be able to carry for the protection of the school however teachers that do not want to carry should not have to be mandated to be a soldier/security as that is their job.

 @9L532X6 from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, at least one teacher and one security guard should carry a gun, however they should be properly trained on how to use it and put through background checks to make sure they are responsible and sane enough to have a firearm.

 @9KYDS4XGreen from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

Teachers should be able to have a weapon of some kind, not a gun or something students would know of or be able to acquire.

 @9JP4MX7Progressive from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

So long as there are armed individuals some one should be armed at a school, but they should be willing to use it against someone and not cower in front of a school for 3 hours.

 @9JJ5VW2 from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

I think they should, with proper training, certification, and safety precautions this could be a viable option.

 @9J494VR from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, with proper training and licensing to include yearly continuing education and live fire training.

 @9J35MKL from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

I say allow teachers choice only if they have experience with a gun , , thorough background check , license , and keep it connected to teachers body at all times so students cannot obtain.

 @9GSG8VR from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

I think they should be allowed to carry guns since we are protected by law from carrying them; however, there should be no need for a teacher to fear for her life in a school. There should be security at every school. Sadly, guns are not the problem; people are.

 @9GSF9SQ from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, But require any teacher carrying to go through training and handling of firearms, and obtain a license to carry

 @9GQ5BKX from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

I believe the teachers and administrators should go through a gun safety course along with the CHL in order to carry at school. Also, in our schools there is one armed school officer on campus at all times.

 @9FYRBLZ from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

If they are licensed carriers, I think it would benefit the school systems to allow teachers to carry guns at school for protection against school shooters.

 @9FMYXZ3Republican from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but the teachers should need a license to carry and must be trained how to handle a gun.

 @9FMWMF3 from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9FMV76L from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

depending on how long they teached should be able to but have it in a safe away from students and have a police or security guard armed as well

 @9FMPR3T from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

I believe the teachers must train on how to use a gun so they can get a gun license

 @9FJCGHZ from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9FJCDWM from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9FJCDTJ from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

They should only be able to carry if they have had a background check and gun safety training

 @9FJ7XKC from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9FFLP2R from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9F4752V from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

In our system, Yes, however I do not trust it to not end up in wrong hands so No.

 @99W76JD from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but they should have the option to undergo training in order to have one and shouldn't be forced to carry.

 @96NY2QC from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

yes but it should be mandatory for each teacher to receive a fire arms license

 @968SZGY from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

 @968H4TT from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Some teachers should be allowed to carry guns, not all are qualified but the most ones who are should definitely be allowed to.

 @968GW3G from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

I think no because of , what if a kid finds it and wants to play with it , yes they should know better but these are kids 14-17 of ages .

 @9632TFV from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

 @95ZWBNQLibertarian from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, training needs to be required and extensive backgrounds and psych test

 @95FC9TD from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

yes, but they must go through training, and phsycological testing to make sure that students will be safe around said teachers and staff

 @95F6BRW from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

I feel like some of the teachers should just in case of a threat at the school.

 @95DZMPF from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

aslong as the teachers get a choice whether they want to carry one and if they choose to then they need extensive training on how to use the fire arm and be taught proper ways of storing the firearm in their classrooms

 @95DXSVQ from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

in the scenario that a shooting were to happen and their isnt any officers or very little ,whos to protect us and another thing ,the shooter went to school before they know the drills and safety measures its common sense

 @94WWLJB from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

I think we should both arm a teacher who passes the requirements and we should also look into hiring veterans or including a hired security.

 @94L2SGM from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

If they are comfortable with a gun and pass a test to make sure they don't have anger issues or something, then I say they can but if they don't feel comfortable with it then they shouldn't be made to have one, that isn't what they were hired to do.

 @94L28BZ from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

 @94BCL2F from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

yes, if the teacher knows how to use a gun and no. because some teacher might use it for the wrong thing

 @93QRZYK from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

No, Employ military veterans as guards provided they pass a psychological evaluation.

 @93FKTLRRepublican from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, if a teacher or teachers are trained appropriately (will have to be defined) and are comfortable carrying said firearm. Another option would be to give jobs to former military to protect the schools. They would have to (of course) go through psychological testing and background checks, but this would provide a trained individual to protect the schools AND increase jobs!

 @924XWK7 from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

only a few teachers should have them, preferably the teachers with some military experience as long as they do not suffer from PTSD, also the kids shouldn't know if the teacher has one or not.

 @8ZYS66QIndependent from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but only select teachers who go through extensive background checks and adequate training

 @8ZYQMNH from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8ZYPVVV from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Only if they have proper training and actually know how to wield a weapon.

 @8ZYPBPJ from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

no, we should put programs in place to monitor and help unstable kids and people.

 @8ZYLV5BIndependent from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

only after completing extensive training and passing a drug test and background check

 @8ZXZ9L8 from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

yes, if they hace a clean background and are certified to carry the firearm in the school area.

 @8ZXFMDB from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

I believe that teachers should be allowed to carry guns at school however not every teacher should be allowed, they should stay discrete and go through a lot of training, and have a safe hideaway spot inside of their class room.

 @8ZVZWTS from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

They should be able to protect themselves in the event of a shooting but they shouldn't have a concealed carry in school

 @8ZJ25FDRepublican from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, teachers should be allowed to carry firearms, but at their own wish. If they want to own want in the classroom, and are approved they definitely should own one. All the training, and shooting classes paid for by the school board, and teachers that are trained in firearm use should get a pay increase as another incentive to own a firearm in the classroom.

 @8YXYPCL from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

If they can pass a test showing they know how to use the gun and have it locked away from students so no one tries to hurt themselves.

 @8YSTQWHDemocrat from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8YSSHC9 from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

yes they should but they need to be locked up and have an alarm/Notification to the cop and office sound so they know it's been tampered with and only teachers/Other Faculty should know

 @8YMXMF4Republican from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but if they chose to they should be required to take a gun safety course and get a license to carry.

 @8YM63QFPeace and Freedom from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Only of the school as been under a certain amount of events that should then allow them to carry guns

 @8YLZ5NB from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8YLGHN6Libertarian from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but it should be voluntary, rotated, and teachers that do should be licensed

 @8YKGXWS from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

I feel that is should be required for any school over a minimum population to have a police officer there and at other thresholds have more officers on campus

 @8YGBBBL from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but only if they have a license to carry and an extensive amount of training

 @LynBrown from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8XHFJXL from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Depending on the teacher and their background, I believe some should be able to carry if they have had enough experience, for example a law enforcement teacher.

 @8XFWBYJRepublican from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8X473W5 from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, however only with training and the licenses that is required of every other citizen

 @8X466VS from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8X45HHL from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

yes, but only if someone has gone through extensive training and background checks

 @8X44GTK from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Teachers should be able to carry sidearms while at school but in order to do so must obtain an LTC in order to know the laws and proper gun safety and gun handling.

 @8WVRCVZ from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8WVP25X from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

this should be a district by district decision but it should require proper protocols/ have a plan

 @8W323THAmerican from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, and pay for a certain amount of teachers to carry and be properly trained if not already.

 @8VR3FVC from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8V8KFXG from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

No, this may increase school shootings, trained security guards should be hired.

 @8T47YVD from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8SYZ5GG from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

As long as they are properly trained in stressful situations so they aren't just waving a gun around at the slightest issue.

 @8RXW5Y2 from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, schools should train willing teachers and implement a protocol to safely keep a gun hidden within the school in a manor much like how some court houses keep firearms.

 @8RXTVWF from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

I think it varies but there should be an enhancement of defensive care for students. Not every teacher should have a gone but someone ought to have something.

 @8RXSFRZ from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, if no criminal background is present and is trained and comfortable with a firearm.

 @8RXS7CWRepublican from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but they should undergo training as to when is appropriate to use it.

 @8RXRZM4 from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y
