This was an unforced error by Trump.

Nonsense.

Vance was by far his best and most capable choice and most aligned with Trump’s policy views.

His marginal popularity or unpopularity will not affect the ticket, but his ability to enact Trump’s policy agenda is vital.

You just don’t like that agenda.

Anyone Trump would have picked in 2024, including Michael Jordan and Oprah, would have been capped at -6. Trump is just that polarizing. All the Sorkin fantasies about Harris picking Romney would have turned to demonization if Trump had picked Romney.

Worse than Sarah Palin? Tough to believe.

Sarah Palin was incredibly popular at first! She boosted McCain to his only lead over Obama in the polls after the convention

Her fall happened with deep dives like the Couric interview. I think also the seriousness of the financial crisis made many voters choose the Obama-Biden ticket which appeared more sober in the thick of the chaos.

Can Democrats get Trump to say out loud he doesn't regret the pick? It will certainly be very funny when he does. Good talk.

Vance ran double digits behind other statewide GOP candidates in Ohio in 2022, and he ran almost 20% behind the GOP governor.

He is uniquely unlikeable, even in his home state.

The media is doing anything and everything to distract from Kamala Harris’ desire to ban fracking, being the deciding vote on inflation-fueling bills that have crushed the American people. Why not cover how she wants ban eating meat?

JD just had capacity crowds in Ohio and Virginia and the enthusiasm was off the charts.

No wonder the media is throwing stuff on the wall so they don't have to talk about her support of defunding the police and her failure to secure the border as Border Tsar.

But are we in an unprecedented time where every major candidate is underwater on favorability? Trump, Kamala, and Biden before her.

On RCP, Kamala Harris is -13 on favorability (though I expect that to improve for now thanks to the rollout of her campaign)

Trump is at -9.8.

Vance doesn't seem so bad by comparison.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…12mos12MO

How might JD Vance's historic low popularity influence the way young voters perceive the political party he represents?

 @ISIDEWITHasked…12mos12MO

In your opinion, what are the most important factors that contribute to a political candidate being liked or disliked by the public?

 @ISIDEWITHasked…12mos12MO

Should a candidate's performance in previous elections significantly impact their future political prospects?

 @ISIDEWITHasked…12mos12MO

Do you believe it's more important for a vice presidential candidate to align with your values or to be broadly likable to the public?

 @ISIDEWITHasked…12mos12MO

How do you think the personal likability of a political candidate affects their chances of winning an election?
