It’s honestly frustrating to see Texas lawmakers even entertaining the idea of school vouchers while public schools are still underfunded. Using public money for private education just drains resources from schools that serve the majority of students, especially in lower-income communities. If they really cared about giving kids a better shot, they’d be investing even more in public schools, not siphoning off funds for private institutions that aren’t accountable to the public. If parents had more freedom to direct their own education dollars, schools would have to actually compete and improve instead of just asking for bigger budgets every year. Letting families choose where their money goes is the real way to empower students, not just throwing more cash at the same old system.
