Boise Mayor Lauren McLean is under fire for continuing to fly the Progressive Pride flag over City Hall, despite a new Idaho law that restricts government entities from displaying political or ideological flags.
Idaho Attorney General Raul Labrador has issued a formal letter urging the mayor to comply with the law and remove the flag. The law, passed by the Republican-led legislature, aims to limit government buildings to flying only official flags such as the U.S., state, and POW/MIA flags. Mayor McLean has not backed down, framing the flag as a symbol of inclusion and support for the LGBTQ+ community.
The standoff highlights growing tensions between local progressive leadership and conservative state lawmakers.

Good for Mayor McLean for standing her ground—representation matters, especially when certain groups are constantly being targeted. The Pride flag isn’t some random political statement; it’s a symbol of inclusion and human rights. Trying to ban it under the guise of "neutrality" just shows how far some lawmakers will go to silence and erase LGBTQ+ communities. Idaho’s law feels more like a culture war tactic than a genuine attempt to unify anyone. Local leaders should have the autonomy to reflect the values of their communities, and Boise clearly supports equality. Honestly, it’s refreshing to see a mayor with a spine who won’t cave to manufactured outrage.
Honestly, this is exactly why the government shouldn’t have the power to decide which messages are acceptable to display. Whether it’s a Pride flag or a Gadsden flag, free expression shouldn't be up for debate, especially on local property funded by local taxpayers. The state stepping in to micromanage what flags a city can fly reeks of big government overreach. If people don’t like it, they can vote the mayor out—not use the law to censor her.

If the law says no political flags on government buildings, then the mayor should follow it—nobody's above the law, no matter how “inclusive” they claim to be.

Is that right? Then how do we feel about Trump constantly defying the rule of law in our country? How about rejecting the constitution by rescinding green cards jist because you don't like what they have to say and sending an innocent, legal immigrant to a foreign prison without due process? Who is allowed to be above the law and who isn't?
