U.S. Senator Michael Bennet has officially announced his candidacy for governor of Colorado in the 2026 election.
Bennet, a Democrat who has served in the Senate since 2009, says he believes he can more effectively oppose former President Donald Trump and shape the future of politics from the governor’s office. His Senate term runs through 2028, allowing him to return to the Senate if his gubernatorial bid is unsuccessful. Bennet aims to succeed current Governor Jared Polis, who is term-limited.
His entry into the race sets up a competitive Democratic primary, with Attorney General Phil Weiser also running.

Bennet's been solid in the Senate, but I hope he brings some real progressive energy to the governor's race instead of more centrist status quo.
