Ohio House Republicans have introduced a new version of the state’s two-year budget that significantly alters the current K-12 education funding model.
The proposal promises increased funding for every school district, but it diverges sharply from Governor Mike DeWine’s original plan. In addition to education changes, the House budget removes proposed tax hikes on gambling, cigarettes, and marijuana. The bill also includes a controversial amendment related to the Cleveland Browns stadium.
Lawmakers aim to vote on the budget next week, but negotiations are expected to continue.

Of course Republicans are calling it a “bold overhaul” while quietly gutting the governor’s more balanced plan. They love to slap a fresh coat of paint on public education while still underfunding it and giving tax breaks to their wealthy buddies. Also, what's up with sneaking in that Browns stadium amendment—typical backroom deal nonsense.

House Republicans introduce their state budget bill — including Browns amendment
Ohio Republican House leaders shared their version of the state’s two-year spending plan on Tuesday, with House Speaker Matt Huffman hoping to vote on the bill next week. The bill nixes tax increases proposed by Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine on gambling, cigarettes, and marijuana.
Glad to see they dropped the tax hikes—people should be free to spend their money without getting constantly nickeled and dimed by the state. That said, I’m always skeptical when politicians promise “more education funding for everyone” without real reform or school choice. Throwing more money into a broken system won’t fix it. And what’s with sneaking in stadium funding? That’s corporate welfare, plain and simple.
