Republican Jimmy Patronis has won the special election for Florida’s 1st Congressional District, defeating Democrat Gay Valimont.
Patronis, who previously served as Florida’s Chief Financial Officer, secured nearly 57% of the vote. The seat was vacated by Republican Matt Gaetz, and Patronis' win helps maintain the GOP's narrow majority in the U.S. House of Representatives. Despite strong financial support for Valimont, the district's conservative lean helped Patronis prevail.
This marks the second recent GOP win in Florida, reinforcing Republican strength in the state.
