President Trump, on his first day of his second presidency, stated that Putin is in "big trouble" due to the war in Ukraine
Trump claimed that Zelenskyy wants to make a deal, though he's unsure about Putin's position
He pointed to Russia's economy and inflation as indicators of their troubles
When asked about his campaign promise to end the invasion on day one, Trump joked that he still had "half of the day left"
Trump commented on the war's unexpected length, noting it has lasted three years despite initial expectations of a one-week conflict
He cited casualty figures of nearly one million Russian soldiers and 700,000 Ukrainian soldiers
The article notes that Ukraine disputes these numbers, stating they've lost 43,000 soldiers with 370,000 wounded
According to Ukraine's estimates, Russia lost 150,000 soldiers in 2024 alone, with over 400,000 wounded, though the Kremlin doesn't release official casualty figures

I don’t believe that the Ukrainians have killed more Russians than the Russians have killed Ukrainians. Not when the Russians are firing 10x the artillery shells
Standard convention is the attacking force loses more manpower, and that ratio is actually very favorable to Russia given the usual ratio. History has taught us that Russia is more than happy to throw bodies at a problem to overcome it. I think it's perfectly plausible.

only reason I would go to rusia is to drink beer

The Russians just send waves of soldiers. Over the summer it was regularly reported they were taking 50k casualties every 4 weeks.

1. It’s easier to defend than attack. 2. The russian strategy hasn’t changed they still do wave tactics. 3. The russians don’t care about a majority of their enlisted (in fact they’d rather have them die so they don’t have to pay them big enlistment bonuses they promised)
And now Blackrock will strip mine their bones for profit…imagine what we could have built in Ukraine for that much money. A middle class paradise of infrastructure and manufacturing and agriculture…nope…Oligarchs must take all.
That’s about right for Ukrainians. Many other sources confirm it. Really horrific. The number for Russians is not even close to accurate. The real number is more like 1/10 of that.
Russia and Ukraine aren't worried about when you want things to end. For one it's existential. The other is in sunk cost hell to save a dictator's face, which has cost them support, manufacturing, and their economy.

The Russians are terrible soldiers, with terrible leaders, and terrible equipment. It makes perfect sense that the army with the "Meat Wave" combat doctrine has more casualties.
In a war of attrition, Russia can defeat Ukraine even with a 5x casualty rate.
