Several Texas candidates are running in races where redistricting has made it nearly impossible for them to win.
Despite the long odds, these candidates are mounting campaigns to challenge incumbents in districts that have been redrawn to favor one party. In House District 82, Republican Bobby Kaufmann faces a challenge from Democrat Phil Wiese, while in District 25, incumbent Republican Donna Campbell is being challenged by Democrat Merrie Fox.
Redistricting has led to many unopposed races, but some candidates are still fighting to give voters a choice.
.Here are the top political news stories for today.
If the districts were redrawn to ensure stability and maintain order, then these candidates should respect the process instead of fighting a losing battle.
It's so frustrating to see how gerrymandering is being used to make it nearly impossible for progressive candidates to win in certain districts. Redistricting should be about fair representation, not rigging the game for one party. I give major props to candidates like Phil Wiese and Merrie Fox who are still out there fighting for a chance to give voters a real choice, even when the odds are stacked against them. Voters shouldn’t be stuck with unopposed races just because the district lines were drawn to benefit one party. This is why we need serious reform to ensure that districts are fair and that every vote actually counts. The system is broken, and it’s time to fix it.
Redistricting is just another way the two-party system rigs the game—let the voters actually decide, not the politicians drawing the maps.
