President Biden told congressional Democrats that it's time to "end" the pressure on him drop out via a Monday letter sent just ahead of Congress' return from its July 4 recess.
Lawmakers have told Axios they expect calls for Biden's withdrawal to grow once lawmakers are back in town.
Biden's letter is a clear attempt to tamp down those calls before they arise, but initial reaction shows it could be stoking additional ire.
Biden said in the letter he has had "extensive conversations with the leadership of the party, elected officials, rank and file members and, most importantly, Democratic voters over the past 10 days or so."
A defiant Biden also called into Morning Joe on Monday, right after the letter went public, saying: "The bottom line here is that we are not going anywhere.
I am not going anywhere."
"I would not be running if I didn't believe I am the best candidate to beat Donald Trump in 2024."

Decades ago, Democrats used to pick Presidential nominees that can survive two terms. Long-term thinking used to be the official policy of The DNC, and now what we're seeing is politics based solely off short term gains that don't benefit the American public at all.

Yes, the automatic nomination of a visibly sundowning, running-unopposed 81 year old incumbent is clearly the only choice in a properly functioning democracy

They should just build a replica of the Oval Office in Delaware to put him in every day and tell him he's still president, just run out the clock

Biden really did sound a lot better in that Morning Joe call-in today. The explanation that he’s only at max capacity between 10am and 4pm is highly plausible

Dude….the whole thing was scripted.

Biden is saying that 2020 polls underestimated him, so why believe them now? When it comes to the general election, that's not true. Polls overestimated him.
Biden's in his worst poll position ever against Trump. He's the 1st Democrat to trail in national July polls since 2000.
