I believe funding should be raised if the community has increase crime rates, but once things decrease, funding should go to social and community-based programs.

 @9ZQX942 from Florida  answered…6mos6MO

Communities should be patrolled with non combative officers, funding should be redirected towards training rather then equipment and smaller highly trained teams for specific high intensity situations

 @9V7GMXBIndependent  from Florida  answered…8mos8MO

Increase training for new police officers. Do not pull funding because they have just enough. They also need to weed out the crazies.

 @9SSTDKVDemocrat from Florida  answered…9mos9MO

I think that funding for police departments are great for communities, because it keeps communities safe. But, I do feel like certain states over look other community based programs in favor of police departments. It should be a mixture of both because not one is more important than the other.

 @9SCHQL5 from Florida  answered…9mos9MO

Police should continue to revive funding for training with a no tolerance policy, any additional funds should go to social services, education, etc.

 @9RMF6P6Independent from Florida  answered…10mos10MO

Yes, but only in areas where evidence shows there is a lack of social programs in the area and an issue with police conduct.

 @9RJDFG8 from Florida  answered…10mos10MO

Use that funding to improve things like mental health care which will reduce crime by making people more stable

 @9RH736H from Florida  answered…10mos10MO

No, funding shouldn’t be reduced for police forces, but additional funding should be provided for a comprehensive set of community-based responders for non-violent situations and individuals. In addition, there should be significant changes to the way police are trained and their policies and practices (mandatory body cams that can’t be turned off by officers, for example).

 @9LCY8QZ from Florida  answered…1yr1Y

No, but some of the funding should be given to healthcare and social workers to provide services, but the police should not be completely defunded.

 @9L6ZJW9 from Florida  answered…1yr1Y

In some cases yes but on others no. Police need adequate funding, which like the military may vary depending on the circumstances, but sometimes police are not the best to be involved in things that social services can provide too

 @9JWKB87Independent from Florida  answered…1yr1Y

Do a mixture of redirecting funding in some categories and include more training for police offers to create a mixture of officers also trained to respond to social issues

 @9JHR79T from Florida  answered…1yr1Y

I think that it should be split. There should be parts of the police force that deal with high crime rate communities but that hierarchy and power levels should be contained. Then for non-violent calls, I do think that they should be replaced with a policy that is more community-biased.

 @9HYL28F from Florida  answered…1yr1Y

the police funding should remain the same however the the social and community based programs should still receive additional funding

 @9GYHYLB from Florida  answered…2yrs2Y

funding should be relocated to make sure theres better community standards, but there should be higher standards and sturdy background checks without any of those quantity checks or whatever they're called.

 @9GQ9QG3 from Florida  answered…2yrs2Y

Systemic racism in policing should be addressed by eliminating militaristic training methods and union practices that perpetuate bad behavior.

 @9FFSXXM from Florida  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9D7YWZV from Florida  answered…2yrs2Y

Police should not be unfunded BUT a portion of their current generous funding should be funneled toward better education of the Police force.

 @96L2GYT from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

 @96CSJ3S from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

i think the police need different training programs that help prevent racial profiling and police brutality.

 @96BXYS9 from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

I think that if money is given to the police it should be instead used for better training programs so that the police are more well informed and won't do bad things are much because the training is better. if it continues to be bad then no take it away and do responders.

  @edwardforsenate@yahoo.com from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

Each state has a different need and it should be up to individual states

 @9457P75 from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

Add responders with conflict resolution and mental health training as well as de-escalation training for all current and future sworn officers.

 @93M3FSW from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

There needs to be a balance so more community based responders can be included.

 @93CRPW4 from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

 @936KRPV from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

No, but instead funding should go to training police officers correctly in deescalating situations and vetting officers

 @92MS5FV from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, and the current Police System needs to be abolished and replaced with Three Organizations in each Town/City. With an Organization that deals with Violent Crime and they'll be the only Organization to have Guns. An Organization that is a Community Respond Unit handles all Non-Violent Crime and they aren't to have Guns and only Non-Lethal Tools. And an Organization to handle Mental Health Situations, Wellness Calls, etc. And this Organization can't have any weapons.

 @92L5FBV from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

No because they do try to keep us safe but they need to fix the injustice in the system

 @92L2K2M from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

Funding for police can remain the same but training should increase to around 4 weeks. There should however be a separate response for nonviolent incidents.

 @92K5MXX from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

No, social and community based programs should have their own funding entirely.

 @9289RDD from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

Take away some funding but not all, and refocus funding to training the police

 @927B6DB from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

Community funding is more important than tanks for cops. I am a cop family but if you don’t get to the root causes it will never end

 @8Z63X62 from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8ZXWGB3 from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8ZTRWWMGreen from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

In higher crime rate areas, funding should remain the same. In areas with lower crime rates, funding can be redirected to social and community based programs.

 @8ZTKZ5Y from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

Make the officers go through proper test to make sure they aren't racist or sexist and make sure they know they are not above the law.

 @8ZTKNGPPeace and Freedom from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, don't completely redirect funding away from local police, but also fund unarmed community based responders for non-violent calls.

 @8ZTHYPJ from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

What could be done is have non-violent community responders on the scene and increase the training and everything to ensure racial incidents and other things that shouldn't happen happens.

 @8ZKCW9PWomen’s Equality from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

i think we should keep finding and train / make it harder to become a cop

 @8ZHB9G4 from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

There should be a balance between the two that allows for the both of them to be properly funded and working effectively.

 @8ZHB533 from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

I believe they can fund the local police but should put the same energy into community based programs.

 @8ZDXNGC from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

Increase funding for social and community based programs and education while also increasing funding to high crime areas.

 @8ZDX6CBPeace and Freedom from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

increase funding for police departments and ensure proper training to prevent situations where people of lower social status are wrongly accused. make sure to educate officers about people of different backgrounds and prevent prejudices in handling situations.

 @8ZBVB9HLibertarian from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

No but o feel that social and community based programs should still be funded a bit

 @8YJZBNR from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8Y99T58 from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

Increase funding and training for the police. Have harsher penalties for police brutality and create more community based jobs to take responsibility away from police for situations that can be handled by other professionals.

 @8Y8SL4P from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

Absolutely not the police play a vital role in our society and we cannot afford to lose them

 @8Y8R7WM from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8Y73D2W from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes and local police should have a crime prevention unit aimed at reducing criminal factors

 @8XMDBHD from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

Some of the money from the department should be redirected, but not all. Police departments are important and shouldn’t be completely defunded.

 @8XKMHT2 from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

i think that the government should share some of the proceeds to a local community

 @8XDD4QY from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8XCM2Z3 from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

They should be trained better, in nonviolent calls, and violent ones to diffuse it quickly and safely.

 @8X95V7H from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

No, use the funds to work on getting better police departments that truly care about the people

 @8X5Z9LX from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

Some money could be directed to social and community-based programs. However, not much because we need a police system to protect people from crime and harm.

 @8WXT2QB from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

The police department should be improved to implement mental health workers to work alongside officers and better trained to handle violent situations.

 @8WWYW49 from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

Federal funding for local police should be limited or cease. Those funds should then go to pay the debt or. E returned to the states/taxpayers

 @8WVTN28Independent from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

Police should be held a lot more accountable for their actions, and have more restrictions before taking out a weapon.

 @8WRXMPWDemocrat from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

I feel that we should spend the funds we already have on better programming

 @8WN9KQ3 from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

Don’t cut the polices pay completely but remove some money from the budget & give the money to other causes they don’t have as much money

 @8WJ8J8Y from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

Funding should stay the same but training should be adjusted/updated in order to protect those in the community being targeted and have stricter laws on malpractice in order to make citizens feel safer.

 @8WDWHM6 from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

I think the funding should be distributed as needed, but the police should be revised and pruned of corruption.

 @8W9N9P4Libertarian from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

No, give the police the same amount of money and give mental health counselors and mental health research more money. Give more money so families can afford to have proper mental health tests done.

 @8W8L37M from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

No, but Change the way police are trained and provide greater consequences for innocent murder

 @8W626WP from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

take some funding away and give it to social and community based programs

 @8W5NGHQ from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8W3LXWN from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

Reform the police training, required training, character profiling and then debate funding.

 @8W3D7SM from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

Both, increase funding for training for police departments in higher crime rate communities and fund social and community-based programs

 @8VYV96B from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

yes and n, keep up the funding but keep it under a certain amount and better train the police to understand how they should respond in certain situations, as well fund social and community based programs.

 @8VWFHCX from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

Don't get rid of them, but they don't need as much money as they have at the moment

 @8VQSHP5 from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

No, but the police should be required to to more training and social programs should have their own funding to use where they are needed

 @8VJ4NPSLibertarian from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, and abolish the police entirely and replace them with privatized police.

 @8SZYN4Q from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

split the money between training police to be less cruel and implementing new programs

 @8SZKFZH from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8STP32J from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8S6JJJD from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8S46VKLProgressive from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

Some funding should be taken from the police departments and given to other community based programs. Police forces are still important for protection within the community so we should not strip all of their funding.

 @8RSYMTY from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

yes, have non-armed responders for non violent calls. and more police training requirements. as well as take some police funding and use it for mental health services, education, etc.
