"no, but increase funding and training for police departments in higher crime rate communities" ... i agree with this more than the other options, but i don't think the focus should be put only on a specific community because i believe if cops get too focused and used to more violent crimes, they could easily lose rational thinking when there's a non-violent call.

 @9D9KZZXIndependent from Kansas  answered…2yrs2Y

No, but there should be funding made available for social and community based programs

 @9B9DS4B from Kansas  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9B9C6NQ from Kansas  answered…2yrs2Y

We should open the savings of making private stations less profit and more efficient spending to investing the public & sensitivity training.

 @9BVK8TK from Kansas  answered…2yrs2Y

No, but increase mental health related training for police officers and/or sending mental health professionals along on calls.

 @97ZGFW3 from Kansas  answered…2yrs2Y

No, increase funding and training for police departments nationwide and create a federal police force

 @8ZLR3TY from Kansas  answered…3yrs3Y

We should increase funding for social and community based programs, but we should not cut police funding across the board to do so.

 @8M5N8QS from Kansas  answered…5yrs5Y

I don't think funding should be redirected, but there should be more funding for those programs.

 @B4M95T6Democrat from Kansas  answered…1mo1MO

Less funds should go to the police and more should go to public safety and community support. But the police should be stricter with who they hire and their training.

 @B3NPDB2 from Kansas  answered…2mos2MO

I think it should be a equal thing, but also have better training and background for said police, but social issues an accruing thing and funding it to be supported would make sense

 @B37MYYV from Kansas  answered…3mos3MO

There will ALWAYS be bad people, good luck when that armed robber breaks into your house and you try talking about his feelings to him. We NEED a police department

 @B2WYCBYLibertarian from Kansas  answered…3mos3MO

Police should have more in depth training on psychological responses for victims instead of just a physical response shooting people.

 @B2S7NCD from Kansas  answered…3mos3MO

No, but government should add the funds necessary to establish necessary programs for the community to thrive.

 @9ZVB2SD from Kansas  answered…6mos6MO

No, focus on funding and training for police departments, and fund development of non-lethal options for apprehension.

 @9ZSB9FM from Kansas  answered…6mos6MO

There has to be a mix of both. We can't go a day without the police, and if want to help them out, then we need to contribute to that. But I also think other things in the community should also have help.

 @9ZPQ3J9 from Kansas  answered…6mos6MO

Yes, but also focus on non-lethal and de-escalation tactics in police force training and increase intra-department accountability for malpractice.

 @9ZN764C from Kansas  answered…6mos6MO

To a degree. Anti-corruption, training on citizen rights and de-escalation should be a higher priority than it is now.

 @9YF2VHX from Kansas  answered…6mos6MO

We need to train our officers and equate police officers to military in how they are trained and give them mental health resources for PTSD

 @9XXPSZG from Kansas  answered…6mos6MO

Only if the police has concrete evidence from social media they can do that do not get rid of police.

 @9XV24BR from Kansas  answered…6mos6MO

A portion of the police funding should go to establishing unarmed responders for non-violent calls. Regular police are still needed for those violent incidents, but should not be the default for issues like a wellness check or other non-violent disputes.

 @9XV2586 from Kansas  answered…6mos6MO

I feel like we need police but we also need social services and youth services The government should increase funding for social and community based programs

 @9XMQHP2 from Kansas  answered…6mos6MO

No, but their should be an increase in local community based programs on top with the people to help join the communities together instead of trying to break them apart.

 @9XMQGB4Democrat from Kansas  answered…6mos6MO

Don’t defund the police - more so training the police and funding programs that help with mental health situations. Let’s train police officers a variety of self defense other than using guns right away

 @9XLLZL2 from Kansas  answered…6mos6MO

The Police should exist and be armed, but not be paid, only volunteer and face manslaughter charges whenever they kill someone, just like a regular citizen.

 @9XHF82TDemocrat from Kansas  answered…7mos7MO

No, maintain funding but have the police work with community-based responders for non-violent calls.

 @9X8KFK4Democrat from Kansas  answered…7mos7MO

The police's budgets and structure likely need to be reconstructed to emphasize more training, more psychological support, more community-oriented programs, and a higher emphasis on fitness and de-escalation techniques.

 @9WWP5FN from Kansas  answered…7mos7MO

It should be kept around the same for the departments and the programs, but with the departments having a little more as they're higher up usually.

 @9WW9543 from Kansas  answered…7mos7MO

Not decrease it but do more screenings to the kinds of people we are hiring as policemen. Character tests to ensure they are not inherently racist. Not targeting People of color.

 @9WW2P33 from Kansas  answered…7mos7MO

funds should be set aside for social programs but the police should not be struggling financially for these programs

 @9WTXY4M from Kansas  answered…7mos7MO

Do both. Focus funding and training in higher crime areas and replace some police with unarmed community based responders.

 @9WP8YMX from Kansas  answered…7mos7MO

I think that funding for the police should not go down, however there doesn't need to be any money added and that funding should go towards community based programs.

 @9WH3MLFIndependent from Kansas  answered…7mos7MO

I think there should be funding for the police however there should also be funding for an unarmed community as well

 @9W4S3Y4 from Kansas  answered…7mos7MO

The funding should be used for new training that focuses on a more communal and less militaristic form of policing.

 @9W3JMHD from Kansas  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, but not all of it. They should be allowed to have some funding while also helping the community

 @9VWR7ZK from Kansas  answered…7mos7MO

I think both should be funded. Police departments also need more training and stricter requirements for becoming a police officer.

 @9VW5QHG from Kansas  answered…7mos7MO

Yes but not fully. A PORTION of the budget should be used to fund a mental health/civil level non felony actors to address situations where appropriate, allowing armed police to deal with crimes there life, community, and property are threatened by bad actors (withstanding mental health threats).

 @9VL26NX from Kansas  answered…7mos7MO

No, funding should stay the same but unarmed community based responders for non-violent calls should be the first option with plain clothes police officers available as backup.

 @9VKBRD6 from Kansas  answered…7mos7MO

No, fund unarmed community responders for non-violent calls. Fund more police training and education for violent crimes.

 @9VK7WR9 from Kansas  answered…7mos7MO

Increase funding and training for police while increasing funding for social and community based programs.

 @9VDLZ2W from Kansas  answered…7mos7MO

I think both are important to society. without the police, people would run wild, but without community based programs, the community would fall because there is no sense of togetherness

 @9VCS5DL from Kansas  answered…7mos7MO

We do not need to defund the police but there needs to be fund allocation for social and community programs

 @9V7QRDH from Kansas  answered…8mos8MO

I think that social and community based programs need more funding but that the opposition is to demolish the police.

 @9V493NY from Kansas  answered…8mos8MO

For nonviolent non criminal issues it should be community responders which would take away some pressure from the police.

 @9TM5T53 from Kansas  answered…8mos8MO

No- we need to put more work into fixing the policing system: better training, more equipped cops, and more accountability.

 @9TDZ362 from Kansas  answered…8mos8MO

Yes, the police should be used for violent calls and community based responders should be used for non-violent calls

 @9TC9YQD from Kansas  answered…8mos8MO

Yes, to an extent. There is still a need for police presence, but it requires more regulation, accountability, training, as well as equal focus put towards other social programs to ensure they are able to intervene in situations best assisted by those areas of expertise.

 @9T3GR89 from Kansas  answered…8mos8MO

instead, focus on helping the police BE the social support, rather than promoting them to mass arrest the population.

 @9SRTPW2 from Kansas  answered…9mos9MO

I don't think we should stop funding the police they do a lot but I think we should do better training and carful on who we give a badge to.

 @9SLZN5MLibertarian from Kansas  answered…9mos9MO

Different communities have different requirements as far as police funding. Different communities have different crimes and thus require different solutions.

 @9SGC4W6 from Kansas  answered…9mos9MO

No, keep current funding, instead, focus on restructuring training to include these services within police forces to reduce incidents and build community trust.

 @9SCL8SL from Kansas  answered…9mos9MO

yes to a certain point. Not all though as education/training should be completed for departments too.

 @9S4SXNS from Kansas  answered…9mos9MO

Some funding should be redirected to conflict resolution teams, but these teams should compliment, not replace the police.

 @9RPMTZ4 from Kansas  answered…10mos10MO

Police are necessary to the extent that they are investigating and preventing violent crimes, but there should be a different unarmed task force deployed for situations that are non-violent inherently. Additionally, police investigating crime should be under heavy strictures to abide by a duty not to harm, similar to military codes of conduct.

 @9RNKVWX from Kansas  answered…10mos10MO

No, put the power of funding social and community based programs with the police departments working with community organizations.

 @9RHGV9W from Kansas  answered…10mos10MO

Police training needs to be better. Our communities need to be better too. Then there will be less crime and police will have a safer job.

 @9R6NM5LIndependent from Kansas  answered…10mos10MO

No, I believe that funding for police should remain the same or increase in order to entice better candidates. Requirements for becoming a police officer should be harder and a higher salary could be used to incentivize a better hiring pool as well.

 @9R5PTTZ from Kansas  answered…10mos10MO

No, find a balance to increase community standards of conduct and training law enforcement on non violent or physical resolution.

 @9R45ZH9 from Kansas  answered…10mos10MO

no i don't think that we should completely de-fund the police but i think less spending should be done on weapons or miscellaneous items but more on actual training proper technique and a revamp on psychological testing and training

 @9R2Q2Z4 from Kansas  answered…10mos10MO

In no particular order, 1.2.3 -- <1>: require police to buy individual private malpractice insurance out of their own salaries, no tax funding permitted. Repeat offenders will get their rates raised, and be priced out of the job. <2>: put all police under the command of elected sheriffs, with absolute power to hire and fire at any time; under threat of not being re-elected if they let rotters stay on. <3>: Publish police records across police departments all over, so those who claim prior experience will already have their records instantly available to prospective new employers.

 @9QSFR9Z from Kansas  answered…10mos10MO

Police don't need to be defunded but rather demilitarized and moved to a more community-based policing approach. More regulation and training on use of lethal force.

 @9PS6FTPLibertarian from Kansas  answered…11mos11MO

No, it should be increased for higher levels of training, more mental health-checks and prioritizing human services trainings

 @9NR2VM4Independent from Kansas  answered…11mos11MO

No, but unarmed units should exist for less extreme situations. Also police should be trained on how to deal with mentally handicapped citizens and should not be trained to shoot first.

 @9NCJP64 from Kansas  answered…12mos12MO

Training in deescalation for police and community based responders for both non violent and to accompany violent calls.

 @9MLMS5Y from Kansas  answered…12mos12MO

Police departments across the country should be held to a federal standard as they are in other countries like Germany and UK with local precincts controlled by their respective state. There are too many inconsistencies between state, county, and city police departments in the US.

 @9MFZG9L from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

This is a nuanced question that will have a variety of answers depending on the specific local communities needs.

 @9M5P8YR from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

Why not both, train community based responders for non-violent calls, and increase training for higher crime communities. As well as incorporating more veteran opportunities into crime enforcement positions, whether administrative or training?

 @9LYNLKY from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

No but a portion of it should be redirected into getting rid of corrupt cops and establishing better methods to prevent corruption in the police.

 @9LRN6JWIndependent from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, but make sure the police still receive enough funding to operate at an appropriate capacity for their county.

 @9LJ37GB from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

Some funding should definitely go to these places, but not all of it. Police are given more money than is at all necessary and some of those funds could be used more effectively in other hands.

 @9LFKJMY from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, but on a "common sense" level, ie. each department having social workers in-house and on-call to address situations where mental health could be a factor.

 @9KX2PR5  from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

No, increase training time and resources for police. Police precents in communities of color should be 70% police of color or minority race.

 @9KW266Z  from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

There should be a balance of funding for both police and community-based programs, that way there will be more equal financial opportunity for both.

 @9KVDLT7 from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

Reallocate funds to proper training for police and invest in social programs for non violent offenses

 @9KN2TSV from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

Abolish City Police. Let the Mayor run the City, let the Sherriff (an elected position) run Law Enforcement.

 @9KKGSCJ from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, some funding should be reallocated with the intention that police and public safety have different duties and job descriptions

 @9KGDKND from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

Keep the current funding and use excess or funding that could be better used towards creating a better community.

 @9KD6STG from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

No, but the money that we do have should be reallocated and used to better train our police departments

 @9KCFRCR from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

Give the police enough money to maintain operations and give any extra to social and community based programs

 @9K6PHFSPeace and Freedom from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

spilt funding or work something out for the social and community based programs and maybe use some of the police’s money for better training and evaluation so we have no corrupt cops

 @9JXVF5N from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

Some funding should be redirected to add support so that there are people with mental health training working with police

 @9JRVNQMIndependent from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

i think that we should focus both on increasing training for police departments while also focusing on social and community based programs that can help people in need

 @9J4TYRN  from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

The entire police system needs to be overrun. Requirement of a bachelor's degree along with psychological/physical evaluation, as well as pass an aptitude test. With the new requirements, police should also receive a higher salary.

 @9HVN432  from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

No, however, police officers should be held reliable for what they do while on patrol. Even allegations of misconduct can still be a sign of unprofessionalism.

 @9HV9SKT from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

No, move some funding from lower crime rate communities to higher crime rate areas and improve training in both.

 @9HRDZHR from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

No, Further training should be required to include ROE, EOF, mental health best practices, and demilitarization.

 @9HMYCTZ from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

Yes and no, funding should be redirected to more community based programs, but the police should also receive enough funding to still operate.

 @9HGKY5P from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

Only in cities with low crime rate's but still don’t cut all training funding, cities with high crime rates police should have funding go to training

 @9H396SF from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

No, funding should be cut in half. Funding should still go to police departments, but more funding needs to go into education, healthcare, youth services, etc. as they are all important.

 @9H2VF6Q from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

I think it should be redirected if the department is found guilty of doing something they shouldn't and that it should only be part of the funding being redirected.

 @9GVC9WJ from Kansas  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, allow social workers to work alongside police for non violent calls but also give the police better training so they are ALSO aware.

 @9GJQCXV from Kansas  answered…2yrs2Y

No, but add strict regulation internally of police departments for discriminatory members or who have a history or are likely to use unnecessary lethal force

 @9G3RFW2 from Kansas  answered…2yrs2Y

Both should get it, but mostly the police, cause they gotta fight crime, but still give the others too 👍
