College isn't necessary but should be accesible to all, giving everyone an equal opportunity to do more and be well educated, the only issue would be job opportunities would be harder to guarantee, but this could be avoided if these students end up making their own businesses in the process.

 @B7YGD4K from Missouri  disagreed…8mos8MO

Having college be free for all would lose the value for degrees and the job market would be competitive and hard to get a job. Also, less funding would be provided for most college resulting in less resources because most universities rely on tuition.

 @B7YTLXY from Indiana  disagreed…8mos8MO

College is a choice, and gives you a better education, therefore giving you more opportunities. I do think the cost of college should be lowered though.

 @B7WP6RT  from Washington  disagreed…8mos8MO

Although free college sounds like a luxury, only a few people deserve to be educated and it all depends on their mindset. Some individuals aren't as motivated and dedicated to actually learning, the only thing they want is a job that makes money. If people don't have the ture dream to learn and adapt to their profession, the world would be dealing with many careless "professionals" in their day to day life.

 @B7YCX6Y  from Nebraska  disagreed…8mos8MO

If collage is free for all then collages would severely decline and the education you are receiving from it will not be nearly as valuable. This would also increase tax payer dollars significantly and cause the general public to have less spending money hurting the economy. You could argue that this extera education would race the economy as people would be better educated and be able to do more by starting bussnises etc.. but I believe the cons out way the pros. Along with this collage drop out rates would increase. I believe that we need to keep our collage grants and assistance but if we…  Read more

The amount of opportunities for people would be highly increased, many low-income students are stuck with loan debt throughout their entire life, low-income students will never be able to pay for their tuition, despite some being highly intelligent with much potential, and scholarship opportunities just don't cut it. I whole-heartily believe that students, especially low-income, should have their college tuition paid for, in full, by the government.

 @B86DPQW  from Michigan  agreed…8mos8MO

Most highschool students when they leave highschool are unable to pay for college or get a job without income so therefore we should agree to help out those kinds of students.

 @B86PL4X from Pennsylvania  disagreed…8mos8MO

We simply can’t afford it. Paying the college tuitions for everyone in the country would cost way too much and we’re already spending too much as a country

 @B87NK44Republican from Illinois  disagreed…8mos8MO

Not everyone needs to go to college, and a portion of students who attend college end up barely using the degree that they paid for. It doesn't make sense why taxpayers end up paying for something that doesn't benefit them.

 @B89SRKJ from Illinois  disagreed…7mos7MO

College should not be free. Nothing in this world is free. But it should be affordable. Getting a degree shouldn't put you in debt for the rest of your life.

 @B88VXZZIndependentfrom PR  disagreed…7mos7MO

They have several other options available to them. They could go into a trade, community college, or the military

 @B8LVK6N  from Michigan  agreed…7mos7MO

Higher education should be achievable by people of all backgrounds. Student loans can be live ruining for people who are lower or middle class which discourages more than half of the population to get a degree or certification that allows for them to work in crucial roles. We ask "where are all the doctors? nurses?" while making it financially impossible for 50%+ of the population to work as one.

 @B8MKZFW from Pennsylvania  disagreed…7mos7MO

It is a persons’ choice to attend college and they can work for scholarships to make it more affordable.

 @B8MHQ7R from Texas  disagreed…7mos7MO

Individual's should not have to fun other people's children's college degrees. All the money would just come from tax payer dollars, and the quality of education would go down due to less funding.

 @B8NCCVY from Wisconsin  commented…7mos7MO

Fix your spelling and how would funding go down? The quality would tank because of lack of innovative incentives like a limited budget to work with

 @B8MDFWB from Florida  disagreed…7mos7MO

student debt has become so enormous, that it would require overwhelming funds from government that they cannot afford to provide. they should help alleviate the issue with policies that can help reduce student debt, not solve it all with their own money

 @B8N2FST from Illinois  disagreed…7mos7MO

College is NOT required. College should provide only targeted training for a given field. Remove excess requirements, remove degree programs that do not contribute, remove federal backing of most college loans.

 @B7KTN6PProgressive  from North Carolina  agreed…9mos9MO

Education should be a fundamental human right. As long as a person is meaningfully engaged in learning more about the world they inhabit, they are improving society and that should be accessible regardless of wealth or background.

 @B7L5J4R from New Jersey  disagreed…8mos8MO

College is for advancement of education, not necessary for a job. It is an option some choose but not for everyone. People can be successful without a college degree. Additionally, this will undercut those who’ve already paid and graduated with a college degree.

 @B7L2B5Y from Indiana  disagreed…9mos9MO

Education simply is not a fundamental human right by definition. Rights cannot rely on others for them to be enacted (you cannot force a teacher to teach me). One could argue that access to information is a right, but not education. Additionally, the funding required this would add a significant amount of corruption to an already corrupt system by incentivizing back door deals between government and state institutions, ultimately allowing for education systems to be weaponized by the state without oversight. Lastly, it is u just to tax those that choose alternative paths (such as self learning, trade schools, etc.) to bear the tax burden to fund such an operation.

 @B7L2BN6Independent from Colorado  agreed…9mos9MO

I think we all should have free collage because some people want to go to collage but they don't have the money or the time to go along with that some people have family to take care of and because of that fact they don't have money to spend on collage

 @B7KZMSY from Florida  agreed…9mos9MO

I agree that the drive to learn is one of the most important aspects of humanity and should never be impeded. I think being uneducated is also dangerous, because people will take advantage of you

 @B9BZ63RPeace and Freedom  from Ohio  agreed…5mos5MO

Many high quality jobs require degrees from college or university. IF you want a degree, you should be able to go to college without money being an issue preventing you from setting up your future.

 @B9CLK6W from Alabama  disagreed…5mos5MO

College is an investment by the person going to college, you don't have to go to college so the government shouldn't have to pay for the personal choice someone made.

 @B9CJNDG from Pennsylvania  disagreed…5mos5MO

That wouldn't make the job as competitive therefore lower the paycheck of things that require a degree. I think it shouldn't be as high but definitely something you still need to pay for.

 @B9DR8R4 from Virginia  disagreed…5mos5MO

People may not always end up with the highest paying job and not being able to pay it off even if someone is going into that career that doesn’t automatically mean they’re going to get the highest position maybe not even a position at all. It really depends on the person and email that they studied in the amount that they know and the location.

 @B9DT3WX from Missouri  disagreed…5mos5MO

Free college for all comes out of tax payer money, so it wouldn't actually be free. Colleges should not be allowed to charge an astronomical price so only the wealthy can attend.

 @B9KSWDJ  from Michigan  agreed…5mos5MO

The average cost for 4 years is $46,000, with room and board it is $132,000 if it is in-state. Most students can not pay that. If the parents are not paying for the students college they should get free college if they can get keep a GPA of 3.0 and employed. Students need to be show focus if they are getting college for free. If they fail a class they will pay for it out of pocket.

 @B9LLZTD from Oklahoma  disagreed…5mos5MO

Univerities should base tuition on the ability to pay back the cost of education. No one should go into debt for a degree they
Get but cannot get a job. Each university should provide statistics on each major and the hire % after graduation and the salary. Quit putting younger adults into so much debt that they cannot get out of the hole.

 @B9LPNS8Republican from Illinois  disagreed…5mos5MO

I would have to say that for people who are getting free college, it is so easy for them to not think about their grades as well as their classes. But who is going to pay for it when there are no proven facts that this works.

 @B9M5BFT  from Illinois  disagreed…5mos5MO

Free college for all is a scam that will drain the pockets of not only current workers in the market, but also future workers.

 @B9M7G6XDemocratfrom Guam  disagreed…5mos5MO

The cost is too high. The state should cover the costs partially, especially for lower-income students.

 @B8F84HGSocialist from Guam  agreed…7mos7MO

Just for the context, education should be the basic human right. And the nation must provide it to they who dont have opportunities.

 @B8FC9NY from Ohio  agreed…7mos7MO

I agree with this because we want a world full of people who are educated, but instead, it's only those who can afford it that get the opportunity to go to college. Then you have those students who work hard to get scholarships to pay for things, but the stress and responsibility that is forced upon you in college, you begin to stress so much that it affects many different aspects of your life. College being free for all allows the options for people to pursue career that they are actually passionate about instead of them in fiels that dont matter to them. It also everyone the chance to get all the education they need to succeed. This could change how society sees education and even change how they use the social media outlets.

 @B9QRC2V  from California  agreed…5mos5MO

As a college student myself, I have to use personal money to pay for rent and food. Scholarships help with these, yes, but giving students free college will help students tremendously by allowing to not worry about tuition and allocate their money somewhere else. Additionally, other countries allow free college and attract thousands of students. For example, Germany does this by allowing mostly free college and only with a small fee and Germany attracts many students into college.

 @B9R9G45 from Delaware  disagreed…5mos5MO

I'm all for college education being more affordable for everyone, but where is the money to send everyone to college for free going to come from? It also would not be fair to the generations of Americans who had to pay back student loans if everyone would now be allowed to attend college for free. I think college tuition and the interest rates on student loans should be significantly reduced, but we can't make everything free. Colleges rely on tuition to maintain their campuses and provide students with services, clubs, sports, etc.

 @B9R7P8PRepublican from California  disagreed…5mos5MO

Free College for All adds an incredibly large amount to the already large debt that the government carries.

 @B9RDSRS from Louisiana  disagreed…5mos5MO

As a financially unstable student, i believe there should be more scholarships and opportunities for lower icome students so they are not struggling in debt in the future.

 @B9QY6H3 from Utah  disagreed…5mos5MO

"Gratis" es solo una ilusión óptica. Alguien más está pagando esa matrícula con el fruto de su trabajo, y ese dinero deja de invertirse en otras áreas de la economía que podrían ser más productivas.

 @B894DTW  from California  agreed…7mos7MO

There are several countries that have free university education and more that subsidize it, so why is America, the most developed nation in the world, unable to do this? Because it would take taxing the rich their fair share, as well as taxing the upper middle class more as well, which our government is unwilling to do. By allowing the top percentage of wealthy millionaires and billionaires in America to pay ridiculously low taxes, people with much less money have to pay for expensive post-secondary educations. Additionally, lowering spend on border security and immigration enforcement, whic…  Read more

 @B898ZVW from California  agreed…7mos7MO

College degrees does not prove much, when getting a job. It is having the job that does, that is why there are rich people with no degrees.

 @B898Z96 from California  agreed…7mos7MO

This is not true because there are a lot of rich people who have not gone to college. Technically, the job you get with the degree determines your pay, so the degree itself is not the thing that makes you a lot of money.

 @B898FN5Peace and Freedom  from California  disagreed…7mos7MO

I cannot believe this website is asking for a counter argument, I absolutely agree. All of this is factual, there is nothing to argue unless you are one of the rich people that don't want mere pennies taken away from them. Education should not be so hard to come by.

 @B76TZFQ  from Arizona  agreed…9mos9MO

Free college provides well education for everyone, which supports our community in work. Free college will allow people to be educated on a specific topic required for a job, making the community bigger and helping everyone. Free college offers more opportunities for everyone, rich or poor.

 @B772YXV from Oklahoma  disagreed…9mos9MO

Free college isn't free. It just hikes taxes on the back end, which makes the rest of Americans pay for schooling they'll never use. Incentives should be given for trade school!

 @B773KWJfrom Guam  disagreed…9mos9MO

Fiscally constraining which will only increase the national debt. I see no reason why rich individuals and those who can afford College should receive free college for all. Instead, we should only give it to those who cannot afford it.

 @B76ZTQF from Idaho  disagreed…9mos9MO

There is a price in knowledge that you pay in quality education when you take away the funds that come from paid college.

 @Joe-MusgroveSocialist from New Jersey  agreed…9mos9MO

I agree, I believe it would improve our country and help people to be more productive and successful members of the community.

 @9GXB6PM  from Nevada  agreed…3yrs3Y

I don't think college should be free to all because I feel like college should be something that people have to earn, people should earn the right to be able to go to college and work hard for it. If college was free to all than people could just coast by in school, and not even try.

 @9GXFYB3Independent from North Carolina  disagreed…3yrs3Y

i dont think college should be free for everyone, however i do believe that more scholarships should be available to lower income households or maybe even first generation college attendees

 @9GZZSZ2Republican from Maryland  disagreed…3yrs3Y

College should be free to all, because not everyone who "earns" their way into college has the appropriate funding to let them carry out their college career. It is one person's own choice to not try in school, but those who earn their place in college, obviously will not decide to do that.

 @9GXG3WHRepublican from Wisconsin  disagreed…3yrs3Y

College should never be free because college is a choice and it's known that college is very expensive. Students need to pre-plan and budget for college. They can also use their education to work towards scholarships to help pay the prices.

 @9GXK7GT from California  disagreed…3yrs3Y

I believe that the prices of community college are reasonable enough for anyone to find an odd job or savings in order to attend. There should be federal aid for people in situations where this is not affordable though such as being a teen parent or under a certain living wage based on income/hours worked yearly. Private universities should NOT be free as this would propel our country into more debt…

 @BC7VQP8Socialist  from New Jersey  agreed…3mos3MO

It provides a more merit based approach to the collage system and allows for more higher level educated people.

 @BC89647 from South Carolina  disagreed…3mos3MO

College does not fully yield the benefits it offers for everyone. It is made by the experience of who attends. But this is a monetary issue, college tuition is absurdly high and the government paying for it may be detrimental to the deficit. Additionally, many people in college don't even get anything out of it or go a completely different direction.

 @BC88RDYRepublican from South Dakota  disagreed…3mos3MO

People would do it just to go sit on their couch and collect unemployment or benefits becuase they are lazy and they would go to collage and get it paid for so they dont have to live a working life.

 @BC9QQ9H  from MP  disagreed…3mos3MO

It would completely disappoint the hardworkers of society that gained their money through merit from organizations. Suddenly Handing out free college would shift a student's effort to continue their civil service.

 @BC9T2WP from Ohio  agreed…3mos3MO

College isn't necessary but should be accesible to all, giving everyone an equal opportunity to do more and be well educated, the only issue would be job opportunities would be harder to guarantee, but this could be avoided if these students end up making their own businesses in the process.

 @B9K5G4Q  from New York  agreed…5mos5MO

Free College for All would make higher education accessible to more people by eliminating rising tuition costs and reducing student debt, which now totals over $1.7 trillion in the U.S. It would increase enrollment and completion, especially for low-income students, strengthen the economy by creating a more educated workforce, and reduce inequality more effectively than scholarships alone.

 @B9KCZP5  from Kansas  agreed…5mos5MO

Yes, but lowering the cost of college would also be beneficial. Most colleges are wildly unaffordable, and most jobs that offer a livable wage now require some sort of college education or degree.

 @BB25H2D  from Texas  agreed…4mos4MO

Each day the cost of living becomes more expensive, and most jobs that give average or above average incomes require degrees or certifications. Therefore, college should be free to give everybody the opportunity to pursue higher education and survive in this economy.

 @BB2G3YT from Georgia  disagreed…4mos4MO

Absolutely not. A four year college degree is often unnecessary (trade schools all the way) and the funding will likely come from an increase in taxes.

 @9FZMX3CIndependent  from Virginia  agreed…3yrs3Y

Studies have shown that countries with free or heavily subsidized higher education have higher college enrollment rates and lower student loan debt. It can help alleviate the burden of student loan debt, which has reached record levels. By making college more accessible and affordable, we can empower more individuals to pursue higher education, increase their earning potential, and contribute to the economy. It's an investment in the future of our society and the success of people in my generation and the more to come!

 @B9MLY77  from Pennsylvania  agreed…5mos5MO

Universal college education would immeasurably improve the lives of citizens by helping them become more qualified for a long list of different careers. In addition, this added success will boost the economy by having more people in better paying jobs thereby adding more flow of money back in to the economy. In addtion, higher levels of education generally create better outcomes for families as they struggle less, allow children to focus on school rather than surviving, and also helps marginalized groups increases chances for a dignified and successful life.

 @B9MQ5PP from Pennsylvania  agreed…5mos5MO

Yes, I agree. Free college is an investment, not a handout. When people can actually afford to get educated, they land better jobs, earn more, and put more money back into the economy. It also helps families struggle less and gives kids space to focus on school, not survival. Education opens doors, especially for marginalized communities, and everyone benefits from that glow up.

 @B98MZ3L  from New York  agreed…5mos5MO

People spend half their life just paying of student laons which just renews the cycle of poverty that a lot of people face.

 @B99CLKC from Indiana  disagreed…5mos5MO

Yes people do spend a lot of money however college is not for everyone and if everyone goes and doesn't need it it would just waste money

 @B99J9J5Independent from South Carolina  disagreed…5mos5MO

Colleges have to have funding to run and if they didn't it would rely on government funding which would take funding away from other public schools and could increase taxes.

 @B99PK4SWomen’s Equality from Texas  agreed…5mos5MO

people already decide to go to college because they want not cause they are forced unlike school, they are showing they want to succeed and should get it for free by them just wanting to go to college etc.

 @B992W3W  from Tennessee  agreed…5mos5MO

I absolutely agree with this statement because why make people pay for their education and some people who are in college are already struggling academically. Why make it more stressful for them and give them a harder time than they might already be facing

 @BBXLQKY  from Georgia  agreed…3mos3MO

With current administration, prices have been increasing making hard even for middle-lower middle class as well as lower class. People don't earn enough money to pay for gas, bills, or even their groceries.

 @BBXSPRC from Missouri  disagreed…3mos3MO

No matter the income level of your household, you can still achieve good academics to get a scholarship.

 @BBXQ8SN from Indiana  agreed…3mos3MO

I think people who really care about college and their education should have a free college education.

 @B7K2563  from Maryland  agreed…9mos9MO

Why should people spend most of their lives paying for college debt? A low income student is no better than someone who has high income because we all die, whether in a fancy coffin or murdered. It should be measured by entry and knowledge requirements.

 @B7K5V9V from Nevada  disagreed…9mos9MO

Ivy-Colleges can have better teachers than others that can relay the knowledge better than a community college, not to say they can’t both be great but there are levels.

 @B7K4K4Z  from Florida  disagreed…9mos9MO

Why should the rich half to pay higher taxes to the government so the government could pay for people college? If they want college they should work for it! People’s hard earned money and generational wealth should not have to provide for people.

 @BCSHH4P  from California  agreed…2mos2MO

The U.S. has about $1.7 trillion in student debt, which is affecting 40 million people (EBSCO research). Low income students are 3-% more likely to attend college.

 @BCSNK29Libertarian from New York  disagreed…2mos2MO

I feel like college is way too expensive and the price should decrease or less people will attend college. Though free college for everyone would be very nice it would be very expensive. But college needs to be less money.

 @BCSQBVYNo Labels from Kentucky  disagreed…2mos2MO

although I don't agree with the free college for all, I believe we should increase the chance for low income students to get a scholarship or more money if there grades are acceptable

 @BCT5HWY from North Carolina  disagreed…2mos2MO

College is a privilege and an undertaking taken by a select few of high-achieving students looking to make an impact in academia, medicine, or law. Not everyone deserves to go to college, nor should they, as blue-collar jobs are just as prestigious and can be more so. Not to mention the way to pay for "Free College for All" is to steal a tax-paying American's dollar to give to a student studying something as useless as "communications." If colleges want to make their programs free for all with no government intervention, then let them, but under no circumstances will my money be diverted away from my family to someone who thinks themselves deserving of it.

 @BCSRF23 from North Carolina  agreed…2mos2MO

Everyone should be entitled to college without egregious and irrational prices for further education.

 @9GLQJYY  from Ohio  agreed…3yrs3Y

It will encourage more people to go to college since there are some people that their family don´t have enough money for college.

I agree that college should be free for all. People come to America to have a better chance of getting an education and a job. Not many people can afford college because most only get paid minimum wage.

 @9GGZPL7  from Oregon  agreed…3yrs3Y

Other Countries have free higher education. People are losing interest in college because of the amount of debt you are guaranteed to have once you complete your degree, or if you attempt college and drop out, you will still have debt. Even with scholarships and things like the Oregon Promise, you still will have to take out loans and pay a lot of money out of pocket even with finical aid.

 @9GH3674Democrat from Wisconsin  agreed…3yrs3Y

I think that college/university should be free for all especially in America. Countries with less money overall are able to provide their citizens with free colleges so our country should do the same. The government wants us to get higher paying jobs with higher level skills; however this can't be done with the amount that colleges are asking for.

 @B9GNHZS  from Texas  agreed…5mos5MO

Scholarships have limited reach, some are based on economic need meaning middle class families don’t have access to it. Also, I believe some people may not be aware of opportunities due to the scholarships deadlines, eligibility, or are just uneducated about it. Finally, I believe it will reduce student debt completely, which will increase higher enrollment and education rate.

 @B9GYWJJ from Iowa  agreed…5mos5MO

I agree since most families don't have access to see scholarships. Many students who graduate from college have significant student debts, many of which they don't pay til years later.

 @B9GXR6J from Indiana  disagreed…5mos5MO

It shouldn't be free to all because there are people who can afford it and taking the scholarships opportunities for the people who can , and it would raise taxes for all

 @B9V3J66  from New Jersey  agreed…5mos5MO

I think that scholarships are limited, only a few students receive them. Free college increase access and participation across broader groups. I would add that enrollment and completion outcomes improve, thus because students will focus on academic instead of work for pay tuition.

 @B9V6JJB  from Florida  disagreed…5mos5MO

There are thousands of colleges and universities in this country. Someone would have to pay for it. Who would pay for it? College is way overrated. People need to look more toward trade schools. Having a skill and a trade makes it much easier to open a successful business. Most people that go to college don't even end up using their college degree.

 @B9V5HZM  from New Jersey  disagreed…5mos5MO

Free College for All would not work because the infastructure would not be able to handle it. Also, how would it be funded?

 @9GGD5TP agreed…3yrs3Y

Free College for all, for the most part, I think that free college should go to the people willing to continue their life and work hard for success and really want to strive at life, free college will change smart lower-class families looking for a better life.

 @9FXCBHT  from Indiana  agreed…3yrs3Y

More then 60 percent of the people vote yes to having a free 4 year college degree for people that wish to attend them. over 70 percent of the people in the US are in borrowing debt after college. Therefore College should be free all the way around and just have the government fund the professors and workers at the colleges.

 @9FXCYK9Libertarian from Indiana  disagreed…3yrs3Y

who ever wrote that sentence is retarded and needs to learn how to debate. news flash not everything is free especially education other countries do not have the access we have. we are 30 trillion in debate college is expensive and not free.

 @9FXCBHT  from Indiana  commented…3yrs3Y

30 trillion dollars in debt you mean? To be able to debate you need to focus on proper capitalization, your facts would be true if you worded them correctly. Yes the U.S. is in 30 trillion dollars in debt, we are the country with the most debt but one of the strongest militaries, as well as the top country for education. We are in debt to be able to do the things the US does and have the freedom that we have. Other countries don't have the access we have because their government cannot access the financial resources to provide strong education.

 @T3rritorialCodSocialist from Maryland  agreed…3yrs3Y

Indeed, when we look back through history, it's clear that the US has often been willing to spend significantly in the name of progress and national development. For instance, the GI Bill, enacted after World War II, provided educational benefits for returning veterans. This led to an unprecedented boom in higher education and economic growth which eventually outweighed the initial costs. Given such historical precedence, wouldn't it be plausible to argue that investing in free higher education could potentially lead to similar positive outcomes?

 @BBHTXNY  from Illinois  agreed…4mos4MO

everyone that wants to go to college has a reason to because if not they can be like everyone else and work after. but they chose or have to go to college for a better life. and the fact some physically can't because of coming from low income homes. people have big dreams and many things they want to be or do. people have dreams torn at the young age of 17-19 because the jobs and lives they want to live they physically can't afford. those people then tend to become the worst side of humanity.

 @B8LH7GDRepublican  from Oklahoma  agreed…7mos7MO

More people will be able to get out of poverty if they are allowed to got to college without having to pay.
