Charter schools are tax payer funded K-12 schools that are managed by private companies. In the U.S. there are approximately 2.9 million students enrolled in 6,700 charter schools. Charter schools are approved and governed by city, county or state governments. Beneficiaries of private schools include real-estate investors who typically own the buildings and land where the schools are housed. Opponents of charter schools argue that they take money away from the public education system and enrich private companies and real estate investors who own the land where the schools are built. Proponents argue that students in charter schools consistently have higher test scores than public school students and note that there are millions of students across the U.S. who are currently on waitlists for private schools.

Government funding should be focused on public schools and increasing teacher wages, but private institutions should still be able to run private schools for families that want private education for their child.
@9D5CHFN2yrs2Y
I believe in school choice!
yes but if public schools had better teachers, higher funding, and higher teacher wages to encourage good teachers to apply and stay, it would be better.
@9D8NQLN2yrs2Y
Yes, but only as a stepping stone to abolishing the entire U.S. education system. Homeschooling was the way of the past, and it is the way of the future. GOD did not include school in the family unit, and it will only ever be a band-aid on a broken system.
@8S853RX4yrs4Y
Yes, so long as they are not religious
@9BZBP4B2yrs2Y
Charter schools are successful because they are able to selectively accept and refuse students. Public schools are required to serve all students - as all schools in an egalitarian society should. I would prefer that more public schools be rebuilt, repaired, and increased in teaching staff. Reduce administrative bloat, emphasize lowering teacher-student ratios, and allow for disciplinary infractions to result in distance-learning in lieu of suspension. Teacher pay increases would be a good incentive to attract and retain staff in a difficult field, but the previous conditions should be major priorities.
@97WDXMJRepublican2yrs2Y
yes, but all schooling should be optional
Leave it as an option, but we should really focus on improving our public schools.
@93Z2HK83yrs3Y
No, we need more funding for improving public schools and increasing teacher wages. For-profit private/charter schools should be banned.
@SpiteDragoon3yrs3Y
Yes because there is a myriad of ways for people to learn rather than forcing them to do everything exactly the same and teachers should be the highest paid professionals in our country and schools should be more funded.
No, we should be using that tax paying money to pay off our huge national debt.
@8WM5G3T4yrs4Y
I don't really have an opinion on this question, I don't really understand it.
@8WKBGJG4yrs4Y
If something in public schools isn't working, challenge them.
@8S6ZDX44yrs4Y
Yes, but it depends on the state.
@8QYCYLF4yrs4Y
Yes, but if money is taken away from public school education systems then no because not everybody can afford it. But usually it will be nicer since it is private.
@8JJG9J25yrs5Y
They are fine if they provide better education than the regional public schools.
@8HK9RHK5yrs5Y
Must be non profit and we need to improve teacher wages and funding for public schools.
@8H2G4BW5yrs5Y
Yes, but not at the expense of public funding. Reform current public education standard to improve effectiveness and permit private equivalencies.
@8G2NMMB5yrs5Y
At least 50% of Education funding should be focused on students and parents should be allowed to invest it in the school that best meets their children's needs. Public schools, especially in underperforming areas need competition to improve
@8DWYHSL5yrs5Y
Yes, especially as they arise after eliminating federal funding for education, and drastically reducing state funding.
@8CZWTGH5yrs5Y
Yes, but only if the child wants to go to the charter school and aren't being forced by parents.
@97X9P6H2yrs2Y
Yes, with a universal school choice voucher program where the dollars follow the student
@8G4KM4H5yrs5Y
No, all private schools should be affiliated with a religious organization.
@8YVMXX93yrs3Y
Yes Absolutely, and our entire education system should be privatized but not at the expense of funding public school and only if they are non-profit
