i think yes some teacher but they must go through STRICT background checks and must know it is only to be used for an emergency

 @MindBobolinkGreenfrom Maine  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Absolutely, ensuring teachers have a clean background and are well-trained would be crucial. However, a teacher's main role should be to educate, not to provide security. Schools might be better served by investing in professional security personnel who are trained to handle such situations. Furthermore, having guns in the classroom, even with well-intentioned teachers, could lead to unfortunate incidents. For instance, a student could potentially gain access to a teacher's firearm, leading to tragic consequences. What do you think about focusing on professional security measures instead?

 @AdventurousSmeltAmerican from New York  disagreed…2yrs2Y

While your point about prioritizing education is valid and well-taken, let's consider the practicality of hiring professional security. The financial burden of employing security personnel may be too much for certain school districts, especially those in rural areas. For these schools, training willing teachers could be a more feasible solution. Yes, there are risks associated with teachers carrying firearms, but those could potentially be mitigated with strict storage protocols and intensive training. How would you propose rural or underfunded schools ensure their students' safety if they can't afford professional security personnel?

 @MindBobolinkGreenfrom Maine  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Indeed, budget constraints are a true concern, especially for rural and underfunded schools. However, wouldn't the cost of extensive firearm training, purchasing of guns, and rigorous background checks also be a significant financial burden? Moreover, even with strict protocols, the risk of accidents or misuse of firearms is still present. Perhaps a more cost-effective and safer approach would be to strengthen community-based policing. Local law enforcement could work closely with schools, conducting regular patrols and establishing an emergency response protocol. This way, we would still have professionals handling security, without the need for teachers to take on that role. How does this community-based approach sound to you? What could be the potential challenges here?

 @AdventurousSmeltAmerican from New York  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Your suggestion of community-based policing is indeed an interesting alternative. I agree that it could be a cost-effective method in urban areas where law enforcement is readily available. However, the situation might be different for rural areas.

In some rural communities, the response time from local law enforcement could be significantly longer due to the distance and lack of adequate personnel. This delay could be detrimental in an emergency situation. The training and arming of teachers, on the other hand, could serve as an immediate line of defense.

Also, I understand your concern about…  Read more

 @93XWPWWConstitution from Arizona  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, if they acquire a CCW permit and prove ongoing training. Also have police presence at all schools.

 @93WW549Republican from Arizona  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but only with guns registered with the department of education and kept away from teachers and students unless a shooter is reported in the school

 @9VZHHFPRepublican  from Minnesota  answered…7mos7MO

teachers should have the ability to carry firearms in the classroom but should be concealed in a locked part of a desk and they should have a special license and gun safety course to do so. it should be completely optional and the school board should know about the teachers that have them

 @7BK2VZ6Republican from Wisconsin  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, and students should also be allowed to carry guns at school

 @8SXDT59 from Florida  disagreed…4yrs4Y

No, this would increase the risk of accidental shootings No, hire professionally trained security guards instead Yes No

Students do not have the knowledge and common sense to have a gun at school, that would increase the school shootings.

 @9HGCJT7Republican from Colorado  answered…1yr1Y

They shouldn’t be allowed to Cary one but there should be one in class rooms in a safe with a code or key and the teachers would need to be trained on when and how to use it.

 @9DBYBJGConstitution from Nebraska  answered…2yrs2Y

yes, as long as they are heavily trained and the gun is kept in a enclose doors

 @PoliticKoalaRepublicanfrom Michigan  commented…2yrs2Y

correct, like a safe where only the teacher knows the code.

also the training should be voluntary and the school districts should pay for it

 @9422SQJConstitution from Missouri  answered…3yrs3Y

 @97JWSBNRepublican from Pennsylvania  answered…3yrs3Y

Honestly it should be up to the school as not everyone is as fortunate to have a police officer/army men like we do in school everyday.

 @8XMC778Republican from Mississippi  answered…3yrs3Y

Teachers should be allowed to carry weapons IF they have the proper training. Weapons should also be held in a locked box in the room where there is no issue on a student getting a hold of it.

 @8G8VNXFRepublican from Minnesota  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8SZPNPSRepublican from Texas  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, if they show the school and government that they are trained and psychologically stable.

 @9F4B6PMRepublican from Kansas  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9F4728PRepublican from Massachusetts  answered…2yrs2Y

If there is a heavy background check on the teachers then maybe especially when school crime is high up.

 @9F2Z7XMRepublican from South Carolina  answered…2yrs2Y

i think they should have the option to have a gun locked in their room but not carry

 @9DJ7CB4Republican  from Kansas  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, if they're trained on how to operate/handle it safely and have it hidden in an unreachable/unknown (to others) place

 @9D98B2JConstitution from Alabama  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, As long as the teacher or security gaurd has gone through proper and standard procedure.

 @9D5PXNGRepublican from Kentucky  answered…2yrs2Y

no instead increase funding to provide better trained school resource officer staffs especially in busy urban environments

 @9D5CPBTRepublican from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but only with proper training and the same restrictions as if you were going to buy a gun.

 @9D4Y69RRepublican from Kansas  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9D4QXHWRepublican from Kansas  answered…2yrs2Y

If the teachers want to carry, have gone through all training, background check and carry concealed on their person and are signed off by the school district.

Schools should have reaction force, not a cop, not used to discipline students…specifically for defense and protection of the school.

 @9CDHVXPRepublican from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

 @8HJB8P3Republican from Michigan  answered…5yrs5Y

No, this would increase the risk of accidental shootings, and No, hire professionally trained security guards instead

 @TheHillbillyLordRepublican  from Maryland  answered…4mos4MO

No, teachers might shoot someone on accident or shoot a student because they are misbehaving a lot. Hire professionally trained security guards armed with non-lethal weapons instead.

 @9ZJ75LWConstitution from Tennessee  answered…6mos6MO

Yes, but teachers who do volunteer to carry should have to go through several rigorous training courses that will help them to deal with a multitude of possible situations and scenarios.

 @9ZHYNHRRepublican from Virginia  answered…6mos6MO

Yes but only specific teachers that have used one before and have experience in carrying also specifically selected officers around the school. This could be retired vets but overall people with experience and those who are responsible.

 @9ZGVPJ3Republican from Georgia  answered…6mos6MO

yes but teachers need to go through a safety course on how to go about having possession of a gun at school.

 @9ZG34V7Republican from Missouri  answered…6mos6MO

teahers who have been HEAVILY tested and been varified by a theripist and have scored 100% on gun safty and concelment should be alowed. BUT ONLY 100%!!! ON EVERYTHING. keep our kids safe

 @9ZF49FZRepublican from Indiana  answered…6mos6MO

Only to those who get properly trained and is there choice. Not to carry on them but to have the guns in a secure area.

 @9Z9Z3HDRepublican from Michigan  answered…6mos6MO

Yes, but has to go through an intense training and has to be locked up and out of reach of children.

 @9Z9S9VPRepublican from South Carolina  answered…6mos6MO

No, but I think they the school and district should take percussions to make sure that teachers wont have to worry about it. If they have a gun license.

 @9YM5ZVHRepublican from South Carolina  answered…6mos6MO

yes but the teachers have to have training and the mag has to be out of it and it cant be chambered.

 @9YM3LYXRepublican from Virginia  answered…6mos6MO

a gun should be in a classroom safely stored with only the teacher having the key with her at all times of the day.

 @9YLTQ4HRepublican from North Carolina  answered…6mos6MO

Yes. I think teachers should be allowed to carry guns at school but they need a good back ground check before doing so

 @9YK6FWXRepublican from Wisconsin  answered…6mos6MO

this will be allowed to be left to the state if they allow it they have to be stored where the kids can not get them

 @9YJJNTPRepublican from Florida  answered…6mos6MO

I believe that there should be multiple staff with guns that are strictly trained on when and how to use it.

 @9YJG5N6Republican from Minnesota  answered…6mos6MO

it would help school shootings not happen but the teacher would have to be qualified and know how to use a gun

 @9YH9CK2Constitutionfrom Maine  answered…6mos6MO

Yes, and schools should pay for training for any teacher that wants to carry a firearm and it should be known that teachers in the building are trained and will defend themselves and children but the identity of those that carry should not be made public.

 @87RHH5JRepublican  from Kansas  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, but only to teachers that volunteer, and have a license to carry a gun, and have trained and certified they are capable of responsible gun handling and situational training.

 @9Y9QM8GRepublican from Arkansas  answered…7mos7MO

One teacher has military and law enforcement and passes all tests by the state police the district of the school and the police dept of the city they work in.

 @9Y9LD3RRepublican from Colorado  answered…7mos7MO

I think that there show be an officer at every school that is trained and has a background check one every 3 months

 @9Y8PPQYRepublican from Iowa  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, but they should be mentally tested first to see if they are legal to bring a gun to school to use for student protection purposes only, they should go through vigorous tests to see if they are mentally well, or Ill and bound to cause a shooting.

 @9Y89V29Republican from New York  answered…7mos7MO

I agree and disagree with this because I would be worried of the possible harming of children but I also understand the need of protection

 @9Y7ZVJTRepublican from Kansas  answered…7mos7MO

Increase remote learning - reducing the massive spending waste! And, have rec centers for socialization. Safer, cheaper

 @9Y76XWCRepublican from Massachusetts  answered…7mos7MO

It should depend on what states your in, for example a bigger state like Florida has more school shooting so, I think there should be one trained professional who can have a gun. The gun should be locked up in a safe though.

 @9Y68RF2Republican from Indiana  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, if teachers choose to pick up that mantel they should be trained practice responses on a regular basis

 @9Y5YY8PRepublican from Ohio  answered…7mos7MO

I think only certain staff should be able to carry for example. vice principals and principles and I think they should have body guards supplied by the government that carry.

 @9Y46XK9Republican from Michigan  answered…7mos7MO

I kind of agree with this one as well. But only in areas with high violence rates and the people carrying should be professionally trained first. And I don't think every teacher should have one. Only a select few. They should also have to receive regular psych evaluations.

 @9Y3HNNVRepublican from South Dakota  answered…7mos7MO

If the teacher has a background check and is using it only to protect themselves and their students in case of emergency; yes.

 @9Y2B7SGRepublican from Minnesota  answered…7mos7MO

yes, but only if they're responsible with their firearms, have a good holster and pass a required training and accuracy test. I'm more inclined to the school having an officer or trained security guard instead but people shouldn't be denied the right to defend themselves.

 @9XZHSFTConstitution from Oregon  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, certain teachers that meet safety standards and that have completed at least one safety courses every two months.

 @9XYTDWYRepublican from Oregon  answered…7mos7MO

If they are trusted and have the required permits, and the principal and the entire staff know, but if they use it wrong they are fired and kicked out of the proffesion and have their CHL taken away, and be charged with whatever they did. And if they dont have a trusted teacher, get security gaurds all over the school.

 @9XYBPWXRepublican from Oregon  answered…7mos7MO

The question of whether teachers should be allowed to carry guns at school is a highly controversial and complex issue with multiple perspectives to consider. Here are some arguments both for and against the idea:

Arguments For Allowing Teachers to Carry Guns:
Enhanced Security: Proponents argue that allowing trained teachers to carry firearms can serve as a deterrent to potential threats and enhance the overall security of the school environment.

Immediate Response: In the event of an active shooter situation, armed teachers could respond immediately, potentially saving lives before law enforc…  Read more

There should be 1-3 guns in the office for emergencies of school shootings etc. and adding onto that, there should be professionally trained security guards.

 @9XX7LNPRepublican from Louisiana  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, but the gun must be stored in a way the teacher can easily access it but the students cannot and the teacher must have a permit and be somewhat trained on how to use a gun

 @9XWJKYHRepublican from Missouri  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, but they should make the teachers to go through a gun safety class and have a reasonable-sized one. ex. they shouldn't bring an assault rifle or any large firearms.

 @9XWJGQHRepublican from West Virginia  answered…7mos7MO

Yes as long as they have a clean background check and have gone through the classes and right procedures to do so.

 @9XVTKPKRepublican from Alabama  answered…7mos7MO

If their background information is checked to see if they had any mental problems or just problems in general.

 @9XVCB4JRepublican from Virginia  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, but only have it in a safe in the classroom and only if you have a concealed and open carry permit

 @9XRZNDHRepublican from Texas  answered…7mos7MO

Every School either needs local police in them or security who are armed with the correct equipment to take care of a situation

 @9XQKQX6Republican from Kansas  answered…7mos7MO

they should but teachers need to have them in a secure space where only they can get, and they have to go through a firearm class

 @9XNVWSZRepublican from Minnesota  answered…7mos7MO

No, but there should be a increase of school rescource officers to not make the kids feel unsafe and keep the schools protected and in some cases yes they should be allowed to carry weapons

 @9XMYDH3Constitution from Nevada  answered…7mos7MO

Teachers should be able to carry defense on them incase of a school attack, however it should not be used for the wrong purposes.

 @9XLXNDKRepublican from Illinois  answered…7mos7MO

yes but only if the teacher is properly trained and the gun is properly secured where any students cant gain access to it

 @9XLR55QRepublican from Alabama  answered…7mos7MO

yes with training, checks, requirements checks, and every 5 months have a free retesting for carrying only consealed carry.

 @9XL3NZKRepublican from Oklahoma  answered…7mos7MO

depends because a teacher could also do something bad because you never know but they should have more trained and more security guards.
