The federal minimum wage is the lowest wage at which employers may pay their employees. Since July 24, 2009 the U.S. federal minimum wage has been set at $7.25 per hour. In 2014 President Obama proposed raising the federal minimum wage to $10.10 and tying it to an inflation index. The federal minimum wage applies to all federal employees including those who work on military bases, national parks and veterans working in nursing homes.

i feel like some jobs are good on their minimum wage but some need raised becuase of how the work is if it hard work yes it should be raised if it is just a simple fast food job then no i think it should be frome somewhere between 10-15 dollars they should get payed
@Cam-WilsonLibertarian3wks3W
Hmmm this is certainly a difficult question. One hand- crutch, other hand- what about for people who cant get other jobs?
@B723KSM4wks4W
Keep the Minimum wage, but have congress be paid the same, when congress wants a raise, they have to raise the minimum wage
Yes, so a persons wage can meet the price for the standerd of living, and also the tiped federal wage should match.
@B5SW4PY4mos4MO
No, but have more unions so they can make safer job environments, health insurance, and better wages.
@B57CP9V5mos5MO
Gen Z will have to work and save every penny for 8 years just to buy a starter house. People say we’re the next best generation but they make it so hard for us to live.
@B4G2X496mos6MO
I don't think they need to raise it more then they have because if they raise it more I feel like it would make everything more expensive
@B3Z4GK37mos7MO
If we actually taxed the 1%. There wouldn't be a need to raise the minimum wage because the value of a dollar would provide enough at a minimum wage to house a family of four on one income.
@B3DPRMP7mos7MO
Yes, and extend these rights to immigrants and refugees as well. Nobody should be forced into a situation where they can’t make a living wage.
@9ZQF8T711mos11MO
It depends on if companies decide that their products will be more expensive to be able to pay their workers more.
@9Y97DD211mos11MO
There should be a minimum limit for every state, such as how Iowa's is $7.25 and Illinois' is $13.50. It shouldn't be allowed to go that low, although it is effected by average living cost per state. It's difficult to determine.
@9XG8C3T11mos11MO
I would like it to be a living wage but make sure that companies can actually afford it. I also think a limit to profit could potentially work.
@9X7TS2TIndependent11mos11MO
I dont fully understand what they mean here and dont want to say something that i might regret putting
@9WWXHJD12mos12MO
No, make a minimum ratio between an individual companies minimum wage and maximum wage and median wage and maximum wage
@9WS4XVS12mos12MO
If you can get a valid education you wouldn't have to work minimum wage as it is, just put effort in.
@9WJ6LW312mos12MO
There should be a minimum wage, and living wage. minimum wage is for anyone under the age of 18, and still a dependent. if you are over the age of 18, or not on your parents taxes as a dependent, then you are to receive living wage
@9VP28YY12mos12MO
Yes, if the federal minimum wage increases, more people will join in for the job, meaning more federal members, like polices and stuff, let the butterfly effect do its thing and find out
@9RYH77W1yr1Y
Corporations should have profit margin caps by employee size. The bigger the company the smaller the profit range. The cap is only on the profit, not the cost of making the product.
@9R5TYF51yr1Y
No, just tax the wealthy at a 90% marginal rate for all Income from any source over $2 million in total earnings per annum the market will find balance
@9NF9B4MRepublican1yr1Y
No, and eliminate all price controls in all industries. Minimum wage laws create a chronic surplus of labor (unemployment). Increase wages by stimulating the demand for labor and restricting the supply of labor (through tariffs, lower income taxes, higher consumption taxes, voluntary unions, and immigration restrictions). Make everyone read Henry Hazlitt's book in high school.
yes because some people mess up young and wanna change their lives but they cant because they cant provide for themselves with low wages making sure they have a home and can eat. also because some people can only work low paying jobs because their past and it shouldn't be like that because some pay don't pay for all homes food water etc (bills) and needs and wants
@9JL2PLSIndependent2yrs2Y
Raise the minimum wage based off of the lowest 5 states in the union that way it is not unfairly bringing up the minimum to standards of New York or California for places like Iowa.
@9JG56CPLibertarian2yrs2Y
There should be a higher minimum wage but minimum wage jobs should not be raised in order to support a family.
@9J82MYT2yrs2Y
has to be a training wage based on teenagers age. 20$ /hr for first job does not make sense. bring common sense back!!
@9HW875H2yrs2Y
I believe the minimum wage should be set at the state level, as the cost of living differs between states.
@9FN8FPB2yrs2Y
Yes but to a rate that matches inflation through the years and most minimum wage jobs are meant to develop experience, not support a family
@9DXSMWT2yrs2Y
Yes, depending on how well the workers work should then be decided on how much they get paid
Yes, and adjust by individual state cost of living
@9D63RLL2yrs2Y
Minimum wage should be left to each state based on cost of living
@9G5ZFNY2yrs2Y
The minimum wage shouldn't be high, but needs to be enough for people to survive without needing a second job.
@9BL3NPC2yrs2Y
states should set minimum raises
@96PB6FMProgressive3yrs3Y
It should be increased to a living wage and reviewed every couple of years but very closely analyzed to stop the potential increases of prices in a never-ending cycle.
@96N9M9F3yrs3Y
Put a minimum wage based on the highest compensated worker in the company.
@96L9LKT3yrs3Y
Buisneses should decide what payment for their employies work for business and them
@9666VPYRepublican3yrs3Y
Companies no longer hire at minimum wage, they hire at whatever will give them employees.
@95ZNGC73yrs3Y
lower minimum wage to $ .26
@95Y8NXN3yrs3Y
@95JMVLL3yrs3Y
Yes, but Teachers should defenetly get payed more because they have such an important job and the job can be stressful. The reason a bunch of teachers are quiting is because they aren't getting payed enough for all the stress and behavior they have to deal with almost everyday.
@954RBY53yrs3Y
no things would cost more.
@953BT6G3yrs3Y
Yes but maybe only very few years depending on inflation and other considerations. otherwise prices just keep rising so it really doesn't change anything
@952KN583yrs3Y
Yes, and prohibit employers from using it beyond a 6 month probationary period.
@94VST5X3yrs3Y
I think the federal minimum wage should increase depending on inflation but still be low enough that states can adjust it t their economy At the end of the day, though, I think the federal government has a responsibility to its, people, the right to a fair wage. Which only makes it right to set a wage that is keeping up with the inflation of our economy.
@93S3YXR3yrs3Y
Remove minimum wage altogether
@93LFXHN3yrs3Y
No, the cost of living is different in each state
Yes, based on a cost of living calculated at the county level. It needs to be a liveable wage.
@92T9B4L3yrs3Y
Yes, but you need to pay some businesses better first so they can afford to pay their workers more
@mysteryoker3yrs3Y
Yes, but have minimum wages be different between large corporations and small businesses with big businesses being required to pay living wages
@92NGN6H3yrs3Y
Yes, and add a maximum that CEOs and Owners can make compared to their employees.
@92H6D2X3yrs3Y
No, but states ought to raise their minimum wages.
@8ZZ6ZRC4yrs4Y
yes but unfortunately the question is will they be able to afford it
@8ZQDGG74yrs4Y
They should leave it up to states and cities to set the minimum wage
@8ZN47CD4yrs4Y
I think it should be higher depending on how old you are
@8ZDWHR84yrs4Y
only raise the minimum wage so long as corporations do not raise the prices of their products to keep their abundant (and unneeded) profit margins at an extreme high.
@8ZBDMR54yrs4Y
its a yes and no question.
@8Z2YFFJ4yrs4Y
Yes, and it should be reviewed every 10 years, inflation goes up, minimum wage goes up, inflation goes down, minimum wage stays same for that review period.
@8YZZP264yrs4Y
No, because minimum wage jobs are meant to support a family and it would put lots of small businesses out of business.
@8YYF48H4yrs4Y
no your state can set the minimum wage of the state.
@8YVZKPC4yrs4Y
If minimum wage increase the price of things will go up so that most likely wont help people make more money in the end but the states can set their own minimum wage.
@8YNTY7YRepublican4yrs4Y
No. The government has no business interfering with business decisions and contracts between the worker and the employee. Absolute minimum wage is zero.
@8YJG3N74yrs4Y
Neither, it should be adjusted by inflation
@8YFX7CLIndependent4yrs4Y
No, require all states to create a minimum wage that aligns with that state's cost of living.
@8YBR43X4yrs4Y
No, because we will have to pay more taxes
@8Y9CVH84yrs4Y
No, the minimum wage should depend on experience
@8Y8FBR54yrs4Y
I think keep it the same for most of the part because poor people shouldn't have screwed their life up
@8Y7VY2S4yrs4Y
not for certain jobs because people that barely do work shouldn't get paid for nothing
@8Y6LWHF4yrs4Y
no, the cost of living needs to be addressed instead
@8Y62R9J4yrs4Y
No, but adjust every half-year for inflation
@8Y3SK7F4yrs4Y
No, this is a states' issue.
@8Y294HW4yrs4Y
you can bt the prices are going to go up so there is no point it would be like the past minimum wage
@8Y283KK4yrs4Y
keep it the way it is, only change it if it's really needed.
@8XX5JBH4yrs4Y
Minimum wage was once used to support families, and people still need to do those jobs in order for the economic system to function well, so if workers can't even take care of themselves with the money they make, then some adjustments need to be made.
@8XTMNZ34yrs4Y
Just raise it gradually in small amounts.
@8X63F6ZIndependent4yrs4Y
Yes it should be raised however it shouldn't be raised so much and so often that prices will increase in a never ending cycle
@8X5GRXZ4yrs4Y
The minimum wage is not the issue, the cost of living is.
@8X4N73N4yrs4Y
Minimum wage should stay the same so it doesn't impact the price on things. The price on things should be lowered based on the minimum wage so people can live good on a minimum wage.
@8WSYQDM4yrs4Y
No, the minimum wage is supposed to develop experience, not support a family and it will cause prices to increase.
@8WS262P4yrs4Y
No, it will damage local communities/economies since not all economies are like big cities where its hard to earn a living. It will cause many companies to close (smaller ones mainly) in small economies, which will cause the poverty levels to rise exponentially.
@8WQFQWHIndependent4yrs4Y
yes, but only due to labor shorteges and then getting more people to work.
Should be different based on age, family members, etc.
@8WL9LJF4yrs4Y
Yes this way you can support your family and do all the things that are needed for human life
@8WL8JG6Women’s Equality4yrs4Y
It should be based on the cost of living in the states.
@8W9QC9H4yrs4Y
Minimum living wage should be determined and increased based on the cost of living in each geographic area.
@8W5QC8P4yrs4Y
no, work hard get a good job and make more money.
@8VZ76J74yrs4Y
Yes, under capitalism the only way for corporations to pay a living wage is by forcing them to. That said, under a decentralized anti-capitalist system minimum wage will likely be an irrelevant concept.
@8VKX2ZHIndependent4yrs4Y
no matter what you do if you raise minimum wage then prices on everyday items/necessities will go up so there's no point
@8VFDJJC4yrs4Y
Yes, but not by too much. That will just cause inflation and discourage people from finding better work.
@8VCSH83Women’s Equality4yrs4Y
If we raise federal minimum rage then taxes and other things will be raised and then we will be at the same situation we are in now.
@8V78T934yrs4Y
No Due to the major inflation it would cause later down the line. Also Add sex to dokkan for manuel :)
@8V435V4Independent4yrs4Y
minimum wage should be determined by both the workers age and the amount the business makes
@8V3QWP54yrs4Y
No because people are unmotivated enough.
@8TRCLRW4yrs4Y
Yes they should, but not $15 an hour
@8TP4R394yrs4Y
the minimum wage should be raised but not to $15 an hour unless the corporations are stopped from raising their prices to the point the raising of minimum wage serves no purpose
@8TNLR5K4yrs4Y
No, minimum wage should be based on location, and employers should have competitive wages, as we are seeing now, more and more are paying 5 or more dollars above our current minimum wage. Allow competition without governmental interference.
@8TNK4RC4yrs4Y
Minimum wage should be regulated by the state.
@8TJDDVM4yrs4Y
Yes, but only let them only be adjusted to biased on specific states and their economies.
@8THCL8H4yrs4Y
It should be a state or local decision
yes but adjust it to the inflation right now we can make it 10 dollars
@8S9ZZRK4yrs4Y
It should be set accordingly to the amount of work and also the age of the individual, depending on what they have to pay for and such.
