Liberalism is not leftist, even if it’s progressivist.

Progressive liberalism has always been part of the left. It's simply part of the center left while capitalist abolition is part of the far left.

Excuse me – what rock have you been living under for the past 100+ years...?

  @9CJ6CB6 from Virginia agreed…4mos4MO

A transparent one apparently because the Democratic Party isn’t even socialist. Joe Biden is a capitalist and just wants rich people to pay 25% taxes. The democrat party is also the Republican Party of the 1800s; the one that had lincoln, due to the party switch.

  @Patriot-#1776Constitution from Washington commented…4mos4MO

The party switch is a gross oversimplification. For example, while the Republican Party did do some atrocious things under Lincoln, the Jacksonian Democrats violently defied state's rights under Andrew Jackson in the nullification crisis of 1832, supported direct mobocracy, which true republicans resolutely oppose, wanted to carry out an unconstitutional power in removing the Indians, which Republicans would be opposed to, supported inflation, which Republicans are opposed to. The Republican Party has always resolutely supported the Gold Standard, and usually been on the side of non-interference in foreign affairs. So I agree with you that the parties have evolved, but it's not a clear-cut switch, elements of both early version of the party have amalgamated into the two party system we see today.

real, i got 90% democrat but would never consider myself a democrat. socialist all the way democrats are just neutral republicans imo

 @983K76N from Pennsylvania commented…1yr1Y

I identify with Democrats more because I feel that they have a wider variety of ideologies than the Republicans do. With Republicans it is mostly QAnon new-comers or MAGA libertarians (and maybe a few moderates if you get lucky); Democrats have progressives, moderates, centrists, democratic socialists, and a few conservatives like Joe Manchin.

 @UNC4life from North Carolina disagreed…8mos8MO

I identify as a dem but that's just wrong. That's an unfair generalization of the Republicans. Liz Cheney, John McCain, Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Chris Sununu. There are so many decent and honorable Republicans. It's just unfortunate what Trump has done to their party.

  @Patriot-#1776Constitution from Washington corrected…5mos5MO

Indeed Trump has caused harm to the Republican Party but Liz Cheney, John McCain – everyone you listed – have done far worse. These people are neocons who support endless foreign wars, endless foreign aid, limitless abortions, limitless spending and deficits, and don't give a dang about states rights, enumerated powers, or the constitution. Whenever a Republican votes against Party he is showered with praise – whenever a Democrat, like Joe Minchin votes against his party, the media rains h–ll on him.
