Liberalism is not leftist, even if it’s progressivist.

Progressive liberalism has always been part of the left. It's simply part of the center left while capitalist abolition is part of the far left.

If liberalism isn’t leftist, then why have conservatives spent decades fighting tooth and nail against nearly every liberal reform, from civil rights to marriage equality? It’s easy to draw fine lines between “left” and “further left,” but to the people most impacted by these changes, the difference feels more like a spectrum than a hard wall. If you’re pushing for progress, and your opposition is always coming from the right, maybe it’s time to admit where you’re standing on the field.
