The United States and Indonesia have reached a major trade agreement that will eliminate tariffs on over 99% of U.S. goods and remove nearly all non-tariff barriers for American firms.
In exchange, Indonesia will face a 19% tariff on its exports to the U.S.—lower than the previously threatened 32%—and has agreed to lift restrictions on critical mineral exports, benefiting U.S. industries. The deal is expected to open at least $50 billion in new market access for American businesses, particularly in agriculture, technology, and manufacturing. Indonesia has also committed to significant purchases of U.S. products, including agricultural commodities and Boeing jets.
While the White House touts the agreement as a huge win for American businesses, some critics warn it may be heavily skewed in favor of U.S. interests.
