Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has announced he will not run for the U.S. Senate in 2026, dealing a blow to Republican hopes of unseating Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff.
Kemp was widely seen as the GOP's strongest potential candidate, with some polls showing him ahead of Ossoff. His decision leaves the Republican field open, with speculation now turning to other possible contenders, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. Kemp's announcement comes after months of speculation and recruitment efforts by party leaders.
The GOP will now need to regroup and identify a new candidate for this key battleground race.

That’s a real disappointment—Kemp was probably our best shot at flipping that seat back to red. Now we’ll need someone with real statewide appeal to step up, because Ossoff is beatable if we rally behind the right candidate.

Honestly, I’m relieved Kemp’s not running—he would’ve been a tough opponent, and Ossoff has actually worked for regular people in Georgia. Now the GOP might end up with an extremist like Marjorie Taylor Greene, which just shows how out of touch they are with everyday folks. Hopefully, this gives us a better shot at keeping the seat and pushing for more progressive policies that help working families.
