A political dispute has emerged in San Diego County over whether to proceed with a final budget vote while the District 1 supervisor seat remains vacant.
Imperial Beach Mayor Paloma Aguirre and two Democratic candidates for the seat are urging the county to delay the vote until the vacancy is filled. They argue that moving forward without full representation undermines the democratic process, especially since the seat could determine partisan control of the Board of Supervisors. The race to replace former Supervisor Nora Vargas is in its final stages, with South County voters playing a pivotal role.
The outcome could significantly influence the county's political direction and budget priorities.

Pushing through a major budget vote without full representation is a blatant disregard for democracy—everyone deserves a voice, especially when the stakes are this high.
This is exactly why government power needs to be limited—too much hinges on one vacant seat. Bureaucrats love dragging things out to manipulate outcomes instead of just letting people keep more of their money and make their own decisions. If the budget’s that contentious, maybe they’re spending too much in the first place.

South County Report: Supervisor Race in Home Stretch
South San Diego County voters are poised to determine partisan control of county government. Here’s my final take on the race to replace former San Diego County Supervisor Nora Vargas on the County Board of Supervisors.
Funny how Democrats suddenly care about “full representation” when it might cost them power. They had no problem pushing policies without input from conservatives when they had the majority. Now they want to delay the vote just because they’re afraid the new member might not vote their way. The budget needs to get passed — the county can't just hit pause every time the left gets nervous. Sounds like more political games to me.
