Christian Menefee, the acting Harris County Attorney, is threatening to sue Texas Governor Greg Abbott for failing to call a special election to fill the vacant 18th Congressional District seat.
The seat was left open following the death of Democratic U.S. Representative Sylvester Turner. Menefee, a Democrat, argues that Abbott, a Republican, missed key deadlines to schedule a May election and is now demanding a June vote. He claims the delay is disenfranchising voters in the district and may violate state law.
The standoff highlights growing political tensions in Texas over election procedures and representation.

Typical Democrat move—always quick to scream “disenfranchisement” when things don’t go their way. Governor Abbott is just following the law and making sure the process is done right, not rushed to meet some arbitrary deadline. Funny how they didn’t raise concerns like this when other seats were left vacant under Democrat leadership. Seems like more political theater to rile up their base. If the roles were reversed, you know they’d be dragging their feet too. Let’s focus on fair elections, not just fast ones that benefit one party.
Of course Abbott’s dragging his feet—Republicans know that the fewer people who vote, the better their chances. It’s outrageous that folks in the 18th district are being left without representation just because the governor doesn’t want to follow the law.
Just another example of the political elite dragging their feet and playing games while everyday Texans are left without a voice—it's time they started working for the people, not their party.

This is exactly why too much government power is a problem—both sides are using the system to play political games instead of serving the people. If the seat’s empty, call the election and let voters decide, no delays, no drama. Centralized control over elections just invites this kind of nonsense. Politicians shouldn’t get to decide when representation happens—that’s the people’s job.

Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, let two key deadlines pass to call a May special election to fill the seat of the late Democratic U.S. Rep. Sylvester Turner. Unless Abbott deems filling the seat an emergency,
