Hopefully he was chosen for his qualifications and not just to check a diversity box.
This is a huge step forward for NC State! Representation matters, and having Kevin Howell—someone who knows the university inside and out—leading as the first Black chancellor is long overdue. Hopefully, his leadership will bring meaningful progress in diversity, equity, and inclusion across the campus.
It’s about time NC State had a Black chancellor—representation like this matters, but now let’s make sure real change follows.
It's great to see NC State making history with Kevin Howell’s appointment as chancellor. His experience both as a student leader and in the UNC system shows he knows the university inside and out. While representation matters, what’s most important is that he leads effectively and focuses on improving education for all students. Hopefully, his leadership will prioritize academic excellence, campus unity, and keeping tuition costs manageable. It’ll be interesting to see how he navigates challenges like state funding and political pressures in higher education. Wishing him success in this new role!
As long as he was chosen based on merit and not just to check a diversity box, more power to him. Hopefully, he focuses on keeping tuition low and government interference out of higher education.
