Boston's Trust Act, which limits local law enforcement cooperation with federal immigration authorities, is facing renewed scrutiny following Mayor Michelle Wu's testimony before Congress.
The policy has drawn criticism from Republican lawmakers who argue that sanctuary city policies compromise public safety. In response, the Boston City Council is holding hearings to discuss potential expansions to the Trust Act. Meanwhile, federal funding threats loom as the debate intensifies.
The controversy highlights the ongoing national divide over immigration enforcement and local governance.

This is exactly why crime is out of control—cities like Boston refuse to cooperate with federal law enforcement and let illegal immigrants run rampant. If you’re in the country illegally, you shouldn’t be protected by some feel-good “Trust Act” nonsense. Local police should be working hand in hand with ICE to detain and deport people who break our laws, not shielding them from consequences. If Boston wants to ignore federal law, then they shouldn’t get a single cent of federal funding. Sanctuary policies make cities more dangerous, and it’s time we put an end to them once and for all.

Boston should be standing strong in protecting immigrants, not caving to fearmongering from Republicans trying to score political points. Sanctuary policies make our communities safer by building trust between law enforcement and immigrant residents. Mayor Wu and the City Council should be working to expand protections, not scaling them back.
The government shouldn’t be in the business of picking and choosing which laws to enforce—either enforce immigration laws properly or get rid of them altogether. That said, local officials should have the right to decide how their resources are used without federal interference or funding threats. This is just another example of big government overreach from both sides of the aisle.
