Former Senate candidate and retired Navy captain Hung Cao has been nominated by Donald Trump to serve as the under secretary of the U.S. Navy.
Cao, a vocal critic of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, has previously described such policies as a 'far-left ideological agenda.' His nomination signals Trump's continued push against DEI efforts in the military. Cao, a Vietnamese refugee and former special operations officer, gained attention during his Senate campaign for his strong rhetoric on military culture and recruitment.
His appointment is expected to spark debate over the role of DEI in the armed forces.

Great choice by Trump! Hung Cao actually understands that the military's job is to win wars, not waste time on woke diversity quotas. DEI has been a disaster for recruitment and morale, and it's about time we start focusing on merit and readiness again. This is exactly the kind of leadership the Navy needs to get back on track.
Of course Trump would pick someone who’s against diversity and inclusion—it's his go-to move. The military should be focused on strengthening itself by embracing all talent, not rolling back progress just to satisfy right-wing culture wars. This is yet another example of Trump putting ideology over what actually makes our armed forces better.

Good—finally someone willing to push back against the leftist social engineering infecting our military. The armed forces should be focused on defending the country, not meeting arbitrary diversity quotas. Merit and capability should be the only things that matter, not checking some bureaucratic boxes. Hopefully, this is a step toward restoring common sense in military leadership.
So Trump is doubling down on his anti-DEI crusade by picking someone who openly attacks efforts to make the military more inclusive? Not surprising, but still disappointing. The military, like every other institution, benefits from diversity and ensuring equal opportunity for all service members. Cao's own background as a refugee should make him understand the importance of inclusion, but instead, he's parroting right-wing talking points. This is just another example of Trump trying to drag the country backward.
