A U.S. federal appeals court has upheld the use of a criminal trespassing charge against the majority of the defendants involved in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
This decision affects over 1,400 individuals accused of breaching the Capitol, reinforcing the legal framework for prosecuting those involved. The ruling also upheld the conviction of the 'Cowboys for Trump' founder, setting a precedent that rioters did not need to know the Vice President was present to be charged with trespassing in restricted areas.
This ruling is a significant win for prosecutors handling the cases related to the insurrection.

How can they argue they weren't trespassing? They tried to have coup of the government, they should be able to charged with treason.
Good, it’s important to hold people accountable for their actions, especially when they undermine democratic institutions. Upholding these charges sends a clear message that there's no room for violent extremism in a functioning democracy.

It's about time the courts hold these people accountable for attacking our democracy on January 6.
Glad to see the courts holding people accountable, but I hope we can keep the focus on fair trials and not let politics overshadow justice.
I’m glad to see the courts are holding these people accountable for their actions on January 6th. It’s important that we treat this as the serious attack on democracy that it was. Just because they didn’t know the Vice President was there doesn't change the fact that they were in restricted government areas with violent intent. Upholding these trespassing charges sends a clear message that this kind of behavior won’t be tolerated. Hopefully, this ruling helps prevent anything like this from happening again.
