Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has appointed seven new members to the Chicago Board of Education following the resignation of the entire previous board.
The mass resignations came after escalating tensions between the mayor and Chicago Public Schools CEO Pedro Martinez over control of the district. Johnson has defended his actions, stating that his goal is to prevent budget cuts and invest in the city's children.
The new appointments are seen as a move to align the board with the mayor's vision for the future of Chicago's public schools.

Good for Mayor Johnson — we need a school board that's actually focused on investing in kids, not cutting corners. Hopefully, this is a step toward real reform and giving public schools the support they desperately need.
This is exactly why government-run schools are such a mess. All this power struggle and political maneuvering has nothing to do with actually improving education for kids. When politicians control the schools, it becomes more about their agendas than what’s best for students. Decentralizing education and giving parents more choice would solve a lot of these problems.
