New York Republican Rep.
Mike Lawler is facing criticism after photos surfaced showing him in blackface as part of a Michael Jackson Halloween costume from 2006. Lawler has acknowledged the incident, describing it as an 'homage' to his childhood idol rather than an act of racial insensitivity. The photos have sparked backlash, particularly as Lawler represents a competitive district in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The incident raises questions about his judgment and could impact his political future.

It's 2023, how are people still not getting that blackface is racist? I don't care if Mike Lawler says it was an 'homage' – it's disrespectful and harmful, period. Politicians should be held to a higher standard, especially when they represent diverse communities. This just shows a lack of awareness and poor judgment on his part. People in power need to do better, plain and simple.
