Former President Trump appeared behind bulletproof in North Carolina in his first outdoor rally since the assassination attempt on him in Butler, Pennsylvania, last month.
It's been signature Trump to hold large outdoor rallies, but the U.S. Secret Service had expressed concern about the Republican presidential candidate holding big-crowd events and initially advised against it in some instances.
ABC News first reported last week that the USSS had recommended Trump be protected by bulletproof glass when he resumed holding outdoor rallies.
During the rally in Asheboro, N.C., that opened with his running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), Trump took aim at his Democratic presidential rival Kamala Harris on national security, seeking to tie her to U.S. troops withdrawal from Afghanistan and wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.
He also railed against former President Obama, whom he called "nasty," and ex-first lady Michelle Obama, who both took aim at Trump during their DNC speeches on Tuesday.
