US secretary of state Antony Blinken has wrapped up a whirlwind Middle East tour warning that “time is of the essence” to secure a ceasefire to end the war in Gaza and the release of Israeli hostages.
But he left the region with wide gaps remaining between Israel and Hamas, and few signs that an intense US-led diplomatic push was any closer to getting a deal over the line.
After meeting Qatari officials in Doha on Tuesday, Blinken reiterated that Israel had endorsed a US proposal to overcome the deep differences between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Palestinian militant group. But the Israeli government has neither confirmed nor denied it has accepted the so-called “bridging proposal” that Blinken discussed with Netanyahu during three hours of talks in Jerusalem on Monday.

There has never been a more incompetent Secretary of State than Blinken. Biden's foreign policy team may be the weakest in U.S. history. It is certainly the worst since 1945. Blinken & the administration just can't seem to be able to control Netanyahu.
@VoleBarryLibertarian2yrs2Y
Don’t think he’s incompetent, He’s just evil and working for the Israelis.
In the article it says the Qatari sheikh/presidnt didn’t meet him because the sheikh was sick. Likely didn’t want to see evil a$$
It’s because you can’t negotiate with terrorists. Also they have likely murdered all the hostages, and have nothing to give back. Plus they always demand more. Hamas needs to be wiped out, along with the other islamist cells in the region and their funders

Seems to me that if Hamas had assassinated Israel's lead ceasefire negotiator, it would make it into every lede of every ceasefire article.
Instead, NYT buries Haniyeh's assassination 12 paragraphs down, without even mentioning Haniyeh's role as Hamas's ceasefire negotiator.
@ExcitedNegotiationGreen2yrs2Y
If they wanted a ceasefire, they’d cut Israel off.

Hamas is terrorist organization that regularly attacks Israel and its innocent citizens. There was a ceasefire in place on October 6th, the reason we are here is because Hamas broke that ceasefire. Allowing a violent group that repeatedly violates ceasefire agreements, with the expectation that they will face no relative consequences other than a new ceasefire agreement with which they will violate at a moment of their choosing as they always do, to maintain their foothold and existence is foolish and bad policy. No self-respecting nation would allow for such an agreement when their own sovereignty and security are in jeopardy. Nor should any ally of a nation that falls victim to such a circumstance advocate in the defense of their ally's aggressor.

The Biden administration is fully supportive of the genocide Israel is committing. Just as it is fully supportive of the NATO war against Russia. Just as it is fully involved in the planning of the coming wars against Lebanon and Iran.
