"Nobody should be allowed to burn the American flag - if they do, there must be consequences - perhaps loss of citizenship or year in jail!"

Nah, most reasonable people will likely agree with that.

It infuriates people to see the US flag burned.

Only liberals will take issue with it imo.

Almost nobody burns the American flag in America and almost nobody thinks people ought to do it... most people are probably surprised to learn you can do it and it's actually totally fine.

Already exists.

Federal Law (United States Code § 700):It is a federal offense to knowingly mutilate, deface, physically defile, burn, maintain on the floor or ground, or trample upon any flag of the United States.

Violators can be fined or imprisoned for up to one year1.

However, this subsection does not prohibit the disposal of a flag when it has become worn or soiled.
