Sen. Joe Manchin called for President Biden to step down as the party’s 2024 election nominee, becoming the fifth allied senator to do so and ramping up pressure on the president, who insists he is the only one who can defeat Donald Trump.
“I come with a heavy heart to think the time has come for him to pass the torch to a new generation,” Manchin (I., W.Va.) said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week.” Manchin worked with Biden on key legislation, such as the infrastructure bill and the comprehensive health and climate bill. The lawmaker from West Virginia left the Democratic Party earlier this year, though he still caucuses with the party.
Previewing the potential fight to come, Manchin also broke with some other Democrats and called for an open process to pick a new nominee, a further sign that the party has no clear consensus on what it would do if Biden did step down.

Jim Clyburn is the one to watch. It will be over for Biden when he says so. I hope Clyburn continues to support Biden because the democratic convention will be must see TV.
They HAD an open process, called a "primary". But the media and the Democrats gave Biden a debate pass because he was so "popular" - under 40% at the time.
This has all been the greatest political scandal in history, and guess what, they also cheated in the election in 2020 and 2022 - you just won't hear because the media and government bureaucrats will all cover for it, JUST like Biden.
Think about it - willing to lie about the President, willing to do ANYTHING.
Did Manchin say why Joe Biden should drop his re-election bid?
Either Joe Biden is cognitively impaired, in which case he should step down as president now, or he is not cognitively impaired - in which case he should be the Democrat nominee. Which is it, "Democrats"?

All these Senators should be asked publicly how come they thought Biden was fit before start of the Primary.
They are subverting the democratic electoral process.
They are the real threat for American democracy.

I am a Democrat and I firmly agree with your point. Biden is sick. Biden is debilitated. This is not "age" -- age is a number, but if a 50 year old were to demonstrate the cognitive decline that Biden shows, that person should not be on the ticket. It is inevitable that losing candidates will run and we should establish a precedent of kicking them all of the ticket, but it is shameful if the party persists in running a cognitively unfit candidate - as I believe Biden to be.

Joe should never have been the Demicratic ticket in the first place, in attempts to appeal to conservative voters post Donald Trump we are failing the American people and pushing the country ever closer to facism under both party's rule of the governmental branches.
