Introducing himself to the nation after being tapped as Donald Trump’s running mate, JD Vance used his Wednesday night address to the Republican National Convention to share the story of his hardscrabble upbringing and make the case that his party best understands the challenges facing struggling Americans.
The 39-year-old Ohio senator is a relative political unknown, having served in the Senate for less than two years. In his first prime-time address since Trump made his pick, Vance cast himself as fighter for a forgotten working class, making a direct appeal to the Rust Belt voters who helped drive Trump’s surprise 2016 victory and voicing their anger and frustration.
“In small towns like mine in Ohio, or next door in Pennsylvania, or in Michigan, in states all across our country, jobs were sent overseas and children were sent to war,” he said.
“To the people of Middletown, Ohio, and all the forgotten communities in Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Ohio, and every corner of our nation, I promise you this,” he said. “I will be a vice president who never forgets where he came from.”

This is probably the first Republican vice presidential speech in decades that didn’t talk about cutting taxes, lowering spending, or reducing the size of government.
Looks like Republicans finally learned that Larry Kudlow only has so many votes.
I for one would like to see the government about 10% of its current size. The only thing I want my government to do is protect my borders and protect its citizens from harm from other countries. Everything else should be left up to the states.

Watching the people who sent JD Vance to Iraq be so angry about him is a radicalizing experience. Vance has every right to distrust the Republican Party that put so many of his compatriots in the ground over nothing.
Iraq isn't anything remotely like what's going on in Ukraine where Americans are NOT fighting but a democratic nation is fighting to preserve their freedom from an imperialist Russia that talks regularly about taking more and more of Europe. NATO keeps them away.

Sure but the neocons should sit this out, I don’t take advice from them.

It was a well crafted and well delivered speech from JD, that I have no problem admitting. Interesting to have a major national candidate who clearly writes his own speeches
