It's pretty clear from this situation that the IRS, a massive government entity, is falling short when it comes to protecting individuals from identity theft. This is exactly why we need to limit government size and scope — inefficiencies and bureaucratic red tape often lead to real harm for everyday citizens. If the agency can't swiftly tackle such critical issues, it might be time to question its effectiveness and explore more streamlined, perhaps privatized, solutions for handling sensitive matters like identity protection.
