If a crime is no longer illegal, should people still be in jail for it?

This clemency program seems like a misguided attempt at justice reform by Governor Murphy. By offering early release to nonviolent offenders, it's essentially undermining the rule of law and disrespecting the victims of these crimes, even if they're deemed nonviolent. It also sets a dangerous precedent, potentially encouraging criminal behavior by showing that consequences can be easily mitigated. True reform should focus on upholding law and order rather than offering shortcuts to those who've broken the law.
