Which is more important in a debate: the content of what's being said, or how respectfully the candidates treat each other?

Both are very important. Most of the time, a candidate with content that will help a majority of the population is also respectful. People who spend their day spewing out hate tend to be disrespectful.

The decision to mute mics at the Biden vs. Trump debate seems like a band-aid solution to a deeper issue of civility and respect in political discourse. It's intriguing to see how both campaigns agreed to this, but I can't help wonder if it'll actually lead to substantive discussions or just turn into a theatrical performance. Regardless, it's essential that the moderators ensure equal treatment and transparency throughout, to truly respect the principles of free speech and open debate.

Finally, muting mics might just be the only way to get through a debate without constant interruptions and chaos.

Do you think the format of no opening statements and timed responses could change how we view the candidates?

How do you feel about muting microphones during a presidential debate?

There will be no opening statements. President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump will each have two minutes to answer questions — followed by one-minute rebuttals and responses to the rebuttals.
