I find Harvard University's decision to drop the DEI statement requirement for faculty hiring pretty concerning. It feels like a step back in our efforts to ensure diversity and inclusivity in academic spaces, which are crucial for fostering a rich educational environment. By removing these statements, we risk losing a valuable tool for understanding a candidate's commitment to these important issues. I really hope this doesn't set a precedent for other institutions to follow, as it could significantly hinder progress towards a more equitable and diverse academic community.
